    My Build/Restore thread take 3

This is my build/restore thread for my newest miata, some of you know it some of you wont.

Little back story, The car came up forsale on CL beat up really bad but running and driving with hard top. Another local member picked it up sold a bunch of stuff from the car then parting it out stalled and he decided to sell what was left. thats where I picked it up.

These are the pictures i was sent of it when descussing buying it from the seller.

When I bought it it was without the 99 wheels on the back so I had to borrow a set of wheels off my friends spare car who happened to live about 15 min from the seller. So we went put the bmw wheels on the miata and drove it back to his house where it sat for alittle over a week till my friend could tow it to me. My orginal plan was to strip the car down to a hardcore track/autoX car with a goal of being as light as possible while keeping it street legal.

When I finally got the infamous LE back to the house I started looking it over took a few pictures etc.

I have this one internal debate now on how far i want to strip this car down. its almost to nice to just make into a beater.
Aside from the missing interior parts and the body work which isnt tooo bad its all complete, runs good, AC blows ice cold...

its really hard to sit here and say im going to strip the car down and make it a track beater.

    few pictures,

Looks to have been taken care of by some one

When we had that rain sunday I couldnt resist going out and working on the car when it lightened up at times, that included pulling the bumper and right fender. I also used my trucks winch and an engine hoist to straighted out the outer frame area that was bent from the hit to the fender. No pictures of this because of the rain.

Monday I picked up a set of daisys with good tires for $100 and a free trunk lid that needs some work. I have a spare third brake light left over from my old miata so once i straighten the trunk I will pop that in. I also had my battery left from the car i parted out last november it was about 8 months old at the time and sat on the side of my inlaws house for 8 more months but it charged right up and has been fine.

Today I brought home a pair of nice new fenders from my work to slap on the car. I also pulled the long bracket from the bumper cover and straighten it out. Still need to straighten the upper passenger side of the bumper but overall the car is coming together.

Still need to work on the fit on this side but for a quick slap it on the fit isnt bad.

I plan to order a top within the next few days and start driving the car for a little and see what I want to do to it.
Plan to pick up a few parts from local people this weekend also.

I guess I should update this lame thread.
    Lots of stuff has been done;
all dents minus right rear quarter have been fixed
    lots of weight removal
    dash seats carpet installed
    rear bumper cut
    trunk floor cut out

    removing wires and moved ecu

    dent free

    Front end gutted

    rear and trunk gut

    rear bumper cut

    custom shift knob.

Today was the start of a custom bumper,

    test fitting
    Oh noes its to short.

This is the second one I cut up to get what was needed for the lower then welded them together. I didnt take any of welding the pieces together.

First thing I did was strip the area where the pieces were being bonded and stripped the top where I had cracked paint.
Somewhere in there I also filled the tag bracket holes and emblem hole.

    Then bonded the extensions on.

also found I can keep using the stock brackets after cutting out the inner section of bumper.

    Then filler

    sanded

    before primer

    first coat of primer

Had to stop early after only one sanding and a second coat of primer, it needs one more good sanding and a final coat of primer but had to be home so I slapped it back on.

    Good Job Andy!
Are you going to round the bottom of the dam out a little at the ends?
You may know me as RAB or BCT or Rick depends on where you look.
