Yeah, the fuel system electronics are clever. It is actually very accurate, too. The fuel warning light trips with about 5 litres left. That little computer in the dash can do a lot of functions, but fuel level is the best feature, IMO.
I definitiely got some looks when I crashed the Miata gangbang going on at the Fontana. I was looking for the rest of my party, so I rolled through it maybe 3 times. People were just staring at me like I peed in the punch.
hehe, you got wood

Just a minor update...
The car passed inspection! No big feat, I suppose, but after living in SOCAL for a while, these things make me nervous. I never realize how loud the exhaust is until I am outside the car, watching someone pull it into a garage/inspection bay.
I fixed the washer nozzles for the windshield. They were a little clogged and misaligned. I filled the washer tank with nearly a gallon of hot tap water and a drop or two of soap. I then just laid on the washer stalk. I also had a sewing needle. I poked the nozzles with the needle, it went in about a 5mm. I swished the end around and then laid on the stalk, pumping it a few times until all 4 were spraying a good, strong pattern. I also used the needle to aim the nozzles, which I didn't know was possible. I just re-inserted the needle and moved it to adjust the nozzles until they were pointed at the places on the windshield I wanted them to hit. I refilled the washer tank again with hot soapy water and emptied it the same way by laying on the stalk until the tank was empty. FIXED!
I then removed the washer pump, cleaned it, the rubber grommet it inserts into on the tank and put a light coat of silicone on it to seal it better.
I will be addressing the headlight wipers and washers soon. I suspect those are clogged similarly, or may have bad hoses. The wipers haven't worked there in a while, so I suspect the relay. Shouldn't be difficult.

So, I learned the e30 is sensitive to the quality of replacement parts. I bought two OE quality hubs (F.A.G.), associated hardware, and borrowed a torque wrench (210 ft/lbs). I am tired of mess g with the NAPA ones. I'll be damned if it didn't solve the last bit of steering shake.
Also tracked the last annoying rattle associated with the upgraded stereo. It was a seat belt receiver that clips into a receptacle on the back seat. I tucked the receiver under the seat and the subwoofer no longer rattles it. Yay, me!

That's awesome. And yeah, the next go pro equipped trip needs to have some footage on your car. It sounds real grumpy headed uphill!!!
That would be pretty cool. I need to look into borrowing some gear for it's next track day in October.

I cannot disagree. I am not as big about the m42 (4 cyl) as the L6 engines, even the m20 like mine has. The power is VERY linear. The torque, especially, in the inline 6s. It's just everywhere, unlike a Miata. Not a crushing amount, but enough were you aren't flailing at the gear box just to make a pass on the freeway. It is a comfortable car for what it is, especially considering the age. It still turns heads, if clean and most importantly - running.
The biggest problem is a LOT of e30 were 'enthisiasts' first cars, so you often have to deal with half-assed, ham-fisted, grossly deferred maintenance - or maintenance done from a budget consisting of coins found in the sofa. You can get one cheap, but it's either going to be rusty, poorly maintained and/or needing a LOT of maintenance to get it back to safe road worthiness (though that standard deviation is virtually infinity times infinity squared).
Enthusiasts of this car range as much as the Miata does. Lots of bros, stancers, drifters, and a few genuinely nice and helpful people.
Prepping for a track day near Atlanta next weekend. Just about done.
In the meantime, last weekend, I went to my first e30 Octoberfest. It was pretty nice. Good people, free beer from a local brewery that sponsored the event. A few nice cars, too!

A few of us "older" guys met up near downtown and headed to the event, about an hour away.

The red cabrio in front of me has a mildly built M3 motor from a '95. Soon after this shot was taken, we were buzzed by a Porsche Caymen. That cabrio chased him down and but a hurtin' on him. I just sat back and giggled maniacally from my car. It was very impressive.

Neat little father/son project above. That's a 4 liter V8 from a 540 stuffed into am e30 sedan. 6 speed manual transmission. 300hp/300tq. Sounded GREAT!
