i've been rocking an ebay short shifter for a while. but i never got around to replacing any of the factory wear items that were in the shifter when i initially installed it...
let me say.... after doing so... it feels amazingly different.. the ebay ss kit does have that vertical collar, but its made of cheap plastic and ends up in shreads after a while...
after removing it I just replace the collar and the lower bushing with new Mazda oem pieces.. and the difference is like night and day.
If you don't want to drop 100-200 bucks on a pricey short shifter. I definitely recommend an ebay SS kit+ all the wear pieces inside the turret with OEM mazda stuff.

man... the 'most likely original from the factory' one i pulled out of my car compared to how thick its suppose to be new 0_0

+1 I can attest to the extreme difference it makes. The shifter feels so solid, no more slop

Wow. For some odd reason I never looked into the story behind your car, even though it's one of my favorite Miatas. Pretty badass.

And thanks to you I ordered a URAS hood vent on Club4AG.

I just bought an Ebay short shifter installed it as is without replacing any of the worn parts on my car, and using the crappy collar that comes with it.(my lower bushing was still good so i was able to reuse it.
then later (at more than a year for sure) I went to Mazda to get the shitty plastic parts replaced. No sub 20$ SS kit is gonna come with oem mazda parts.

Is that short shifter an effective one? Or is it just an oem one machined down with the same fulcrum point?

Someone local pointed me towards this one, said it's the same height but feels better than the stock one?

the throw is actually shorter and notch-ier than oem.. the one I have changes the fulcrum point. which is what the big fat spacer is for:

it seems like the obx one is a machined down one (if that is the part you are referring to where the rod is much shorter.) but I have no experience with these so I'm not sure what its like. However from this pic i'm not sure if you can actually use the plastic collar... pic doesnt seem to have provisions for it. where suppose to be a hole where the slot is to press it in. or maybe you just use it as is without a collar

Cody I love your car, I envy you that you can actually drive it on the street and enjoy it, I think that should be the purpose why we fix-up car, so people can give you thumbs-up and gawk at you while driving. When I fix my "soon to be NB" I hope it looks close to what you did with your NA, probably not as awesome as yours but I make sure I can drive it and enjoy my ride that's not too loud like Mike's! - carmela
