    Bracketed Hardtop Rattle

    Heyall,

So months ago I replaced my latches with GarageStar brackets.

Since, I've had some hard top rattle. It didn't bother me much at first, but over time it's getting far more annoying. I can hear the rear clasps rattling hard against the franken bolts. I've loosened the brackets, then re-tightened them (trying to get the hard top tighter) but because the bolts go into fiberglass it's not like I can really tighten them down too crazily to hold. I still get the rattle anyways.

It's a snugtop, and at this point I am just worried the rattling will damage the rear window.

    Ideas?

Hey ruckkehr I can't speak for the garagestar ones but I do have the jass performance ones, see in my thread here

I know what you mean by over tightening, and mine do need to be tightened every now and then (especially after a few spirited runs), but I doubt they make as much noise as your ones do (it makes a few creaks even at optimum tightness, but hardly enough to bother me). The top ones do get a little noisier when they loosen, so that's my indication to tighten them up. Then they are mostly silent besides the odd creak here or there.

the bushings on the clasps are squished. I flipped mine over and added a shim, rattle gone.

If only someone could create a delrin replacement...

Eventually old miatas will become 60% delrin

I lost track of this thread and forgot to come back and look

I actually spoke to Kenjo and he recommended a few things:

Like KFG, the bushings, although I am not 100% certain what those are

additionally, he said the hardtop NEEDS weight preloaded on it while you attach the brackets. Basically he said to have my wife carefully crawl on top and put weight on it while I attach xD
