Tips/Guides? - Modifying Stock Tombstone to 1028 Style

Anyone with general pointers or guides on how to modify existing trim pieces?

I've been on the hunt for a 1028 style tombstone and saw this ad:

It got me thinking, I'd love to learn how to do something like this. It'd be a fun side project and informative as well.

So if anyone happens to have any information or guides on a similar project, I'd appreciate any guidance.

I've tried to do a search, but I'm not even sure where to begin for something like this.

Making one is pretty easy; I used some perspex and filler (bondo)

To reproduce the plastic grain, I gave it a very light spray with pickup bedliner paint, took the roughness off with medium grade wet n dry, then a coat of satin black. To fit, you need to cut a moulding from the dash, and fit two small screws to either side.
