    Roll bar mount for DSLR?

Anyone build their own custom mount for a DSLR? I think a good place for one is on the roll bar, but perhaps the back shelf might work. I have a Pentax K-5 that shoots pretty good video, and I want a in car view for the Miata when I hit up Laguna Seca. Since its a track event, they want a secure mount (I do too, that can hold up under stress). Ive used a tripod for those fast paced "parade laps", tied down with the bungee strings, like below. It made for some good video!

Now I want to build a mount that can either go on the roll bar, harness bar, or perhaps on the back shelf. I can't be the only one who wants to use a dslr because they dont have a go-pro. Ill take any tips.

Use this one for ideas on how to make your own from various Home Depot parts:
