    Weld-on Front Skid Plate

Ive been looking around the internet for a few days, haven't found much good info. Lots of pictures of questionable looking skid plates but nothing that I really like.

There don't seem to be any skid plate threads over here yet, this might be a good time to start one.

Any pictures, templates or vendors who make nice skid plates would be great. If I cant find something today, i'm just going to make my own template and make a PDF for everyone to use.

Well....... which ones have u seen/found already? That would help.
The weld ones are usually custom... a few vendors make bolt on versions.

Why would you want to weld it on? Planning on never doing another oil change with pulling the motor?

The weld-on plates leave an opening for that very reason. Seems that people complain that a bolt-on skidplate isn't as durable as one that's welded on. The bolt-on might be more practical for the mod-slammed car, or just as a piece of mind thing. Weld-on plates are for better for slammed guys that are constantly scraping or bottoming out.

I know Fabel runs the Garagestar plate and loves it. I never understood the point of having the opening for the oil change. Just seems like debris would get in there and fuck shit up anyway. I'm most likely wrong though, so ignore me. lol.

If you are going to be slammed you don't want any open area for anything to hit your pan. 1/4" steel is really thick. I have some new things coming out in the next few weeks for you slammed guys. It's top secret. I will announce it soon.

I bought a Studio plate temporarily. I was driving around unprotected. $170 was worth not going through the hassle of making one from scratch right away. I want to recess a panel for the drain plug and I want to extend the plate to near the front of the PPF.

1/8" isn't thick enough for me and I have a piece of 1/4" steel waiting to be cut into a plate. I'll wait to see what GarageStar shows off before I make one.

The Studio plate is a nice part, though. Quality is very good. I had to add the two rear bolts to my 92. I'm assuming that those were added in 94.

G*, I hope your future plans are something to protect the rear end and ppf bolts!

Welded on, was free and spent about half an hour on it total. Doesn't interfere with oil changes at all and when pulling the engine I just drop the tranny from underneath which I found quicker even before the skid plate.
