Hey Everyone,
My name is David and I'm from San Jose. I recently picked a 1996 Miata (my second 96 actually).
In early 2000s, I started doing trackdays in a 91 Sentra SE-R and eventually a 2004 WRX Wagon. In 2006, I had a particularly bad off-track excursion in my WRX at Reno-Fernley and decided I should get a dedicated track car. After seeing many Miatas at trackdays, I realized that those people must be onto something and I picked up a 96 M-Edition with the aim of making it a track car. I refreshed the brakes, installed a roll bar, and did some autocross but some stuff came up and I had to part with the car. I never made it to the track with her. The picture below is the only one I could find of the car.
After that I got into motorcycles and started doing trackdays on Kawasaki Ninja 636 and then a Triumph Speed Triple. However, with the birth of my son last year, my wife asked that I stop riding motorcycles and I obliged. After a while, the desire to get on the track returned and something had to be done.
I had always missed my Miata, so there was never any doubt about which car to get. A couple weeks ago, everything came together and I bought a white 1996 Miata. She's a little rough around the edges but drives well. And since this is going to be a long term project, I don't mind the cosmetic issues. I'll take care of them eventually. She's stock other than some aftermarket wheels and subwoofer in the trunk.
I'm not a fan of those wheels, so I switched them with some 15x7 Rota RBs I had from a previous project (a 92 Sentra SE-R) that never really took off.
And that's where she stands now. Next step is suspension. My shocks are the originals, with 169k miles on them, so they are completely blown.
