    Alpine SPR-68 speakers

Has anyone installed Alpine SPR-68 speakers in a 99 NB1? If so, any alterations needed to the door.
    TIA

cheapest I found them was from Sonic Electronix now $109.95 (on Ebay or their Brick & mortar store.), they were $99.95. Sonic and other sellers on Ebay are not authorized dealers, if you have a problem for warranty purpose they have to be sent back to them, not Alpine. Crutchfield and a local authorized dealersare selling them for $199.95. Big Rub is Crutchfield states they do not fit in my 99 Miata. Sonic (via email) says they will I'm looking for something else.

Did you ever upgrade the speakers? I am thinking of upgrading my stereo/speakers as well and wondered what works best.

Not yet. Would buy the Alpine SPR-68's if I was sure they fit without a lot of modifications. Hearing is not as good as it was 30 years ago, just going to look for
something that will "drop in". Polk DB-571 or Polk DXI-570 (both 5x7's, no modifications). guy on Miata.net (link posted my above #3) installed Lanzar VX830 8" with no problems (cheaper than the Polks)

The best way to go, in my opinion, is a decent 6.5" speaker with an adapter ring. I even made my own rings for my Polks if you want to have a quick look:

There is a little more involved if you're using a stock Bose stereo with Bose amp but just for a quick answer to your post above...

Thanks for the link. Think 6 1/2's are the way to go. Once I find an adapter plate to cover the 8 inch hole in my 99 I'll check out some 6 1/2.

Opps..Speakers arrived yesterday. Talking about ordering DB571's..Realized today I ordered DB 651s 6 1/2's. Speaker brackets arrived today. Inside hole diameter is 5 1/2,
speakers diameter is 5". All mounting holes do not match up, there is no meat on the bracket to re drill. Any suggestions? Put a nut and bolt through with a washer? Seal speakers to the bracket?

    Anyone

I never recommended a 5.25" speaker. I said 6.5" and really, you got the correct speakers in my opinion. Adapters are cheap so I wouldn't go forcing a 6.5" speaker into the wrong adapter with glue or something.

Just try to source a pair of adapters locally from Best Buy or a stereo shop if you want to install tomorrow. Otherwise, just order the correct ones or mail yours back for exchange or refund.

I just made my own in a couple hours but I could have bought them around town. This is not a crisis so pat yourself on the back for getting some nice Polk 6.5s by accident.

By the way, what stereo are you using these speakers with?

Mounting plate you mentions in post#8 is the correct plate for the 99. My mention of 5 1/2" is the diameter of the inside hole on the adapter, speakers mounting diameter is 5 "

Stereo, using OEM for the time being. You don't known me, I am a procrastinator by birth. I still have a +01 manifold sitting on a shelf for the past 2
    years waiting for installation.

    Problem solved .
