    Never thought I'd have a build thread in 2019 - 96 NA Build :)

Well, yeah I can't believe that I'm making a build thread, but I gotta admit this is pretty awesome since I haven't made one in a while lol. I thought forums were dead and were a thing of the past. A lot of the ones I was part of before, are either gone or if the still remain a lot of the threads/information is gone. But not here from what I can see, glad to see this forum is still up and running. I've been a member for a while, my first Miata was bought back in 2014, it was a white 90 that I bought off this kid with some crazy camber'd CCW wheels. That car had really shitty suspension, it was kinda clean? But the whole bottom of the car was toast. It was an impulse buy, why? Because of a girl lol...really though. I had always been an s-chassis guy, now that I'm counting I've had 10 240s, none of which I kept lol. I was young and whenever a build would just get too overwhelming for me I would sell the car because of lack of funds. I went through a lot of cars like that. Anyways, I meet this girl (The One, marrying her one day) and I own an 95 Automatic S14, I wanted to sell it because I didn't want to deal with all the manual swap, so she suggests, "hey, why don't you get a Miata?"....HHMMMM Why DON'T I get a Miata? Came home with this a few weeks later.

Car looked cool, but it was stancey with some 15x10 CCW Classic 5s, but it was a piece of crap. Sold it a few months later looking completely different. Anyways, I went through a little break from building cars and just got a normal daily. Focused on work and other life things, saved up money, proposed to said girl, we bought a house together. And now, I have some time to slowly start building something. So last month, I started hunting and found a really clean 96 NA. I really wanted a 1.8 since the last car was a 1.6. The first car I went to see was basically everything I wanted, and picked it up for $1,800 bucks. Which was a great price given the condition, the previous owner had to get rid of it due to his parking situation.

Now comes the fun stuff. First thing I did was hardtop. Traded the soft top which which was in perfect shape, plus cash on my end. I don't plan on driving this car topless for more than a few hours, if ever, I might get a bikini top in the future. But hardtop was on....aahhhh so good <3.

The next thing I did was the interior. Previous owner had painted the center console and tombstone Glow-In-The-Dark So that had to go. Instead of going through the trouble of painting everything back to black, I just got new ones. Ordered a new OEM tombstone and IL motorsport center console, w/o the cup holders Also picked up a new shift boot and knob.

I'm a sucker for Nardi Classics, so I picked one up to replace the eBay off brand wheel that was on there, and also got a new gauge faces from Adam, and you can see the black wrinkle Voodoo knob which is actually getting replaced pretty soon :8)

Not pictured, was a foamactomy for my 6'2 long legged body lol and with that, I was pretty happy with the interior.

Now, I don't have many photos of what's to come because I was working on the car by myself and I just forgot to stop and take photos. But the first wheels/suspension/exterior package for the car arrived lol.

I went with Enkei J-Speeds 15x8 +25 with 225/45 Kuhmo 720s. RS4s were sold out, I didn't like the reviews on the Federal RSRs, Bridgestones were a little too pricey at the moment. So for the price and performance, the Kuhmos were perfect.

Megan EZ Streets. Picked up EZ streets because they're pretty good coils as long as you don't slam your car and for daily driving. These are getting replaced pretty soon, in about a month ;) ordered better coils but I'll wait to share until they arrive.

eBay GV Lip, KG works wing, Feed style sides and eBay R-package rear lip.

I didn't hate these wheels, but for some reason I didn't like them neither. I couldn't tell what it was. They do come with a polished lip but I plasti-dipped it flat black.

I figured it was the unpainted center cap, so I plasti-dipped int flat black as well.

I still felt "meh" about them and I figured they would grow on me, I went got an alignment and exhaust installed. Got a Fujitsubo RM01A locally with less than 30 miles on it for a great deal.

Went out did a quick little shoot with a buddy of mine and his AW11.

So the J-Speeds never really grew on me and I figured it was the color, so I Plasti-Dip'd them white thinking that was it.

And nope that wasn't it, didn't care for them at all. Conveniently, that girl that I mentioned earlier also happens to have an Roadster ;)

So the Enkeis are going to end up on her car, annnnnddddd I got these wheels during a pretty sick Black Friday deal.

In between all that, I had my eye on a set of Garage Vary tails on eBay. I was waiting and waiting and didn't pull the trigger until I had the funds, once I did i went back and noticed the auction had ended, so I messaged the seller on eBay which happened to be none other than Matt Lambert. After a brief phone number exchange and a phone conversation, I was the the owner of the GV tails Matt had on sale, with OEM Mazda porter lights this is probably as of now my favorite find. Matt is awesome as I'm sure you guys know, shipped them over and a about a week later they were in my hands.

I put them on last week just because I wanted to see them on the car, I knew everything was there but I grew anxious. I took them back off the next day and will wait for paint. Still waiting on a GV duckbill from Rev9 and considering an S2 Racing front bumper.

I also cut the rear bumper, which I noticed that I'll need to replace the rear bumper support at some point. Might go with a bash bar or find another bumper support.

Waiting at home I got a Stoptech brake lines, new rotors and EBC pads, Brake Master Cylinder brace from Garage Star, Harddog X Roll bar. And more stuff on the way, just ordered a front Racing Beat sway with reinforcement brace.

Just recently I did pick up a Mazdaspeed cluster from forum member Marco, met up with him and got a chance to check out his awesome B-Spec Roadster. Looks great in photos and even better in person.

Mazdaspeed cluster on its way home, Marco also gave me some new stickers, a lot of HP right there. +20 at least with the yellow ones.

Cleaned it up, switched out the 1.8 useless oil pressure gauge and back on the car it went. Not photos yet, will get some soon.

So, that's pretty much it for now. Car currently sits like this.

And I'm debating whether to go with the S2 Racing 01 front bumper or Garage Vary Glide front lip. What do you guys think?

First off . Secondly you are about 6 days too early for a build in 2019. Lastly looks like a solid basis with some tasteful mods. The Ray's Engineering wheels look much better but a classy 5 spoke design is always a solid choice .

As far as the front bumper, the Garage Vary lip with lip/fender extensions look really good, imo. Not discussed but the GV Type N rear bumper is probably my favorite NA rear bumper option. Look forward to your progress!

Thanks for the welcome haha. Love the the GV Type N rear too. But I might end up going with a rear diffuser, similar to the GV demo car since I have the same wing and love the way this looks.

Just got this today, replacing the Voodoo shift knob.

Love seeing a new build thread show up. FB and other social media have provided an instant gratification route for sharing but always misses the depth and stories of our builds. Welcome!!!!

I agree 100%. Can't get in-depth on any social media platform really. And I'm not about to start making Youtube videos, that's wayyyyy to much work haha

WOW! Clean Looking car IMHO. Sometimes, most of the time, an NA looks best with smooth 'accentuated' lines.

    And,
I agree, even though I'm slowly not following that mantra with this car. It's going to look completely different in about 2 months haha.
