If you have dates post them, as steering wheels tend to change shape across time, while retaining the same name. Momo dates are usually printed on the back of the wheel as "4-91" meaning it was manufactured in the fourth month of 1991. Wheel width is always good too, usually measured in millimeters (ex. 330mm), cm (ex. 33cm) or inches (ex. 13").

This thread is for collectible "QUALITY" wheels like; MOMO, Nardi, Sparco, Mazdaspeed, etc.,

This thread is not for "disposable" wheels like; grant, grip royal, and jdm "style" wheels

I'm kicking this off, per Phat's suggestion. I've always thought it would be a great idea too, but with all the wheels, variations, knockoffs and my lack of steering wheels knowledge it seemed a bit daunting. Moving past that, I think it needs to be done. I'll be back to update, just wanted to start this before I forget. Please contribute whatever you want or toss in suggestions!

Indeed it is. I think you've got a lot of info on Prototipos to fill us in on. :D

Did you know there's a Benetton that doesn't have the wacky colors? I've run across it on ebay and yj a few times. Same exact design with horn pad, but in more muted non-Harlequin colors.

Not my image, it's hotlinked from a google search. I've seen it in black and dark blue.

A couple of mine, first a late 70's Jacky Ickx wheel, part of the momo signature series of F1 drivers back in the day.

second, also part of the same series, a Clay Regazzoni wheel, also late seventies.

I hope this is a good place to post this Ebay link. I found a Luisi wheel on Ebay that resembles a Prototipo, and the price is basically a steal at the moment. I would buy it if I was 320mm or smaller.

I ran across a thread (http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/picture-room/174837-catalog-factory-aftermarket-steering-wheels.html) similar to this one, while ogling google images. It focuses on 60s/70s Alfa steering wheels, which includes the early years of Momo, so expect most of the wheels to be from that era. These have been some of my favorite wheels for a little while. Here's some condensed info and pictures, unsure of complete accuracy and there is some crossover in info/years of logo use, but it's enough to get a good idea. :D

1964 Gianpiero Moreetti Monte Carlo, 380mm. This was the first (pre-momo) Momo wheel available to the public market.
http://i.imgur.com/bCmjVO0.jpg

This style logo was used 66-67ish (maybe 1 or 2 years more). Years weren't marked on the wheels in this period, so logo design is important in identification.
http://i.imgur.com/mffKFh4.jpg

as seen on the reverse of this Daytona.
http://i.imgur.com/2o8qWJr.jpg

The stacked Momo script is a logo used from 1969-1973. As seen on the reverse of this 320mm Momo Elite
http://i.imgur.com/NwHCOaU.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/cSi4Nbl.jpg

1966 Prototipo. Race wheels would come undrilled (just like you can order them now from Sparco, etc.) because everyone had their own hub/mounting method. This 5 hole came out of a Porsche 906. I would also like to note that not every Prototipo has had 3 holes below the hub. ;)
http://i.imgur.com/QUvE1nr.jpg

This 1978 ad shows you could get a 30mm dished Prototipo., which is what they used for the Clay Regazzoni signiture wheel.

Not sure of the whole Formula 1 Enterprises story, but they weren't hiding that they were Momo wheels and were branded as such on the back too. 1968-197X?

My thoughts regarding Indy/Super Indy is that the spokes finish is different. My Super is polished, whereas all Indy's I've seen are brushed. Awaiting delivery of an Indy as well (shipped today), so if any other differences I will report back.

There's another variation of Indy's, model KBA 70099, which I believe came as an OEM accessory with some late 80's Mercedes. The most important difference is that the spokes are black (and IMO looks AWESOME)

http://www.2040-parts.com/_content/items/images/16/509116/001.jpg

They do also come with a crashpad.

BTW all of them come in different types/shades of wood

I thought I had seen numerous Indy's with polished spokes at japanese auction, but my google images search shows only brushed finishes, I think you're right. Well I did find one (http://joiechitwoodscollectibles.com/product/authenthic-1977-momo-indy-classic-14-3-360mm-wood-steering-wheel-vg-made-italy/), but it was very obviously recently polished. Thanks for the info!

I think it depends on the country. MOMO Japan made a lot more special edition wheels because of the huge aftermarket demand and they still do. Both of my super indys are from Japan and have the polished spokes.

Finally got hold of my Indy a few days back. It is a 12/80 model, brushed spokes as all Indys I have seen. The wood hue is exactly the same as my '85 SuperIndy, diameter and dish are exactly the same, however the grip is slightly different. The Indy has a thicker grip, with a more "square" cross section than the Super Indy. Overall, I much prefer the Super Indy, it feels (and looks) much better in person, even if they seem almost identical from the photos.

AMI-GOUI?!?!?!? That's one spelling I've never seen. And after inspecting my own wheel, it's the one that makes the best sense.

I've seen Amigorni, Arrigoni, Arigono, and other such gon's... but I could never see that in the brand. Amigoui works.

Anyone ever seen a catalog listing for one of these wheels? I've looked for one for a couple years now. My thoughts being that a catalog would have the brand actually spelled out.
