Today I picked up a 1994 1.8 Engine for my 1993 miata it had 70,000 miles on it . and all I had to do was drive my truck to his house help him remove it from his miata it was for the most part allready unboltd. he had a couple of things that needed to be removed but that didnt take long. now its sitting in its resting spot in my storage building while I go on a mass shopping spree for seals and otherthing needed to get it swapped into my car.

1.8 engine swap kit.

That's a fun project. DO NOT FORGET, that you have to swap the 1.6 temp sensor from the back of the motor to the 1.8. There is a hex grub screw under the 1.8 cas location. That is where the sensor goes.

Which sensor are you referring to? I transferred the coolant temp sensor that was on the back of the 1.6 when doing my reroute but totally forgot about the one on the front of the engine in the thermostat housing now that I go back out and look at it again. If you look in my build thread you'll see I dropped the engine in yesterday, now I'm wondering where each sensor is supposed to go. Any pics to show what you're referring to? Guess I have some googling to do lol

Demon I Am

There is a 1 wire sensor that sends the temp reading to the cluster.

So this is the 1.6 rear:

http://photos.motoiq.com/MotoIQ/Project-Cars/Frankenmiata/i-93MD748/0/M/heater-fitting-M.jpg

The blue arrow is pointing at the temp sensor. That needs to come off of the 1.6

and go here:

like this:

Okay, my '94 engine already had that sensor in there so that's taken care of I believe. But now that you have me thinking about the temp sensors, I realized, with my reroute on the swap I didn't transfer the 1.6 water neck since I was just deleting the front water neck. This means I don't have the thermoswitch to activate my cooling fans. I'm assuming I can just extend the wires and install that switch into my spacer for my coolant reroute.

For a second there I was considering running my fans on a switch and then having my megasquirt control the fans when I finally install it, but if I can just put the sensor in my thermostat spacer at the back of the engine I'll do that. But I'm not sure if the sensor would be on the right side of the thermostat then, or if that even matters for that particular sensor.

The valve cover gasket can take two or three removals, specially if it's that new. It's SO MUCH easier to do w/o it! But yes, I too have gotten lucky to replace the CAS o-ring w/o removing the valve cover. Wish ya luck!
