I stumbled across this while looking for a lift table for my bike. It looks perfect for a Miata and a small garage.

I think it would be great for changing wheels and tires, but I wont trust my life under that thin looking metal supports and shocks that could leak and give while im under a car. But Im paranoid like that too

I was not aware flyin miata had this. I will seriously have to consider this. My volvo only weighs 3390. I wonder if it realistically could work as well. Max lift of this unit is 3500.

I could fab a plate to use them with my bike. I may have to pull the trigger.

Couldn't you also place jack stands underneath in conjunction with the unit?

They also make a 5000 pound unit as well.

I am sure you can, but then why pay $900 for it when jack stands are $30 for a set of 2

because it would be awesome to use for general stuff, when I need to get hardcore and go under it, I can use jack stands to supplement my fear.

I would spend a little more for this Snap-On scissor jack lift. 6000 lbs capacity. Of coarse it costs a lot more if you buy brand new (like $4,000) but you can find a used one for around $1,500 on CL. My brother just sold one for that price.
I would probably trust this one to hold but I'm a little paranoid like Randy...

The Quick Jack is designed to be portable, so you can take it to the track.

FM has them for $979 shipped as an introductory special. http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?stocknumber=35-70210

For a 100.00 you can get a nice set of 12 ton truck jack stands. They will get your car up nice and high with plenty of stability and without restricted access to components like these portable jacks. I have looked at portable lift options and at the end of the day being able to stand up under a vehicle and have unrestricted access to the mechanicals is key. Most of the portable lifts would still require you to kneel or use a creeper, so you might as well save the coin and just take an extra 10 minutes to put the car on jack stands.

A few years ago, I bought a half dozen different types of jack stands and reviewed them all for my blog. I did this because I wanted to know for sure which was the best type of stand. No one paid or provided stands for me to review. It's an honest review.

Not sure if folks would be interested, but it's a pretty complete review of each type of stand. It's one of the most popular pages on my site and I'm proud of the work I did on it.

Spoiler: My favorites are the ESCO tripod stands.
