Just finished up my video from the second event I ran in the Miata and my first PAX win in 6 years of autocrossing!

During the PAX winning run I was %100 sure that I hit a cone hard enough to knock it well out of the box even if it somehow had stayed vertical but after taking my frustration out on the steering wheel I finished the run strong and the margin of victory was only .08 of a second!

timing belt, water pump, thermostat, front pads and rotors, plugs, wires, wiper blades.

tomorrow it'll be rear pads and rotors, put in new coolant, new VC gasket, fuel filter, oil change, trans fluid, and diff fluid.

Morr, are those polished Rota Grids or polished Konig Spooled?

morr
01-14-2013, 10:38 AM
They're the silver Spooled. I just chopped the wheels from Ciotti's thread (http://mazdaroadster.net/showthread.php?4897-New-silver-Konig-Spooled-15x8-*lots-of-pictures-within*). I wanted the wider wheel, but I also wanted them to be lighter than my current setup at least.

I definitely be looking at a different set if you are grabbing them. Can't be exactly twins can we. I have my eye on other wheels as well so we will see. I'm wanting my SSR Comps again.

fffuuu!! Go to pick up my VC gasket, they ordered a 1.6 gasket rather than a 1.8. Have to wait til tomorrow to get that.

Started doing the rear brakes, need a new passenger side caliper since the piston won't retract.

While doing the timing belt, removed the sway bar at the mounting brackets because it goes right in front of the crank bolt and we needed to get the impact on it; endlinks exploded.

Then go to fill the coolant and run it. Look underneath and see waterpump is leaking now. Need to rip it apart and try again.

Ordering a new water pump gasket tomorrow as well as a new caliper.

Changed the diff fluid though, as well as the trans fluid. Don't know the last time those were changed.

My driver's rear piston had the same issue. Luckily I scored all four calipers (hardly used) for cheap off a CR member. I hated the idea of having to send out your old calipers plus a deposit in order to get new ones. Which reminds me, I'll probably just swap over the other three new-to-me calipers soon. I only did the one since so far since it needed it.

Yea, I got pretty excited because the first 3 corners went so well; but then with how my day was going and how all the maintenance on the car was going this weekend I figured there was something that would have to go wrong, and there it was lol.

I have a couple friends that have accounts at a local parts store since they are mechanics and can get discounts for me so I shouldn't have to pay full price which will be kind of nice.

Hopefully things go a little smoother on the car tomorrow though; I'm glad I finally got around to doing all this maintenance on the car since I don't know the last time it had any of this done. The coolant was actually brown and was the worst smelling coolant I've ever experienced. The trans and diff fluid were also disgusting.

Ya, rebuilt one from a local parts store. They're known for getting the old cores, sandblasting them, and putting them back on the shelf. Warrantied it today, got the new one on and bled the entire system.

Also, since my rad is leaking ill probably be ordering a new one on Monday from rockauto.

Been trying to figure some problems with my car so I can pass smog. I used my scanner to check if there's any codes but there isn't any. But there are 2 blinking lights: E and EV.

I looked online and it says E is "Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Monitor" and EV is Evaporative System (EVAP) Monitor
(for more detained explaination, go to page 22 http://www.equus.com/Content/Support/Manual/3100c.pdf)

I searched online and the evap problem might be lose gas cap (need to check on that) and not sure what to do for the egr problem. clean the egr valve?

Ah that sucks. Yeah, once I get my seats/brackets the next thing on the list is a new rad. Obviously my car hasn't been overheating since it's cold here, but the rad itself is still leaking.

The most frustrating part is that mine is an OEM replacement that I put in no more than 2 years ago. Unfortunately, there was no warranty. So I'm gonna get either an OEM replacement with warranty or just get this DNA one with fans (http://dnamotoring.com/store/index.php/cooling/radiators/mazda/miata/miata-mx5-99-05-dna-2-rows-full-aluminum-radiator-2-fan-3453.html) since people seem to be happy with them.

tsingson
02-05-2013, 11:03 AM
Whats the price on the OEM one?

chiefmg
02-05-2013, 11:23 AM
Most everyone goes with Radiator Barn for an OEM replacement. I don't know if they have a warranty or not. If you go aluminum I'd stay away from the eBay cheapies, including Mishimoto/Mizu et al. I have read quite a few people who had to get replacements for them over and over due to leaks. I might have gone a little overboard with mine (37mm Koyo with twin Spal fans on a special shroud) but I'd rather not have to worry about the cooling system, especially when my wife is driving the car while I'm gone.

I was looking at this OEM one (http://www.go-part.com/9905-mazda-miata-radiator-p-36655.html) for $95. Idk, a few people on CR have that DNA one and have had no issues with it.

Oil change, put the old XXR's back on, and just cleaned it up a bit on the interior.

edit: Tungsten, FWIW my lotus seats on Flipside Custom brackets (which bolt to the stock sliders) dropped me about 3". I'm only 5'8" but it took me from having my head just above the rollbar to about an inch below it. Obviously it gave me more leg room from the wheel as well.

OMG, the fuel dumped everywhere when I popped the line off the filter. Have a mild chem burn in my forearm from that, no big deal. Took the car on the cloverleaf and flogged it. Huh, I find that that NB with rails, butterfly brace, and Afco suspension isn't any worse for long rides. I will say the PU bushings on the diff make the cabin vibrate when the motor is around 3K, something other folks have noticed, though. I'll not add door braces even though they make a huge difference because getting in and out of the car is fun as it is--I look like a baby moose being born.

Interesting. Do you like the car a little loose?

The NB is a more comfortable car for longer trips, for certain. My NA had become a *little* too specialized. If I can get NB a bit more track-ready, safety-wise, I would be happy. It already has Konis and a RB front sway. For budget and comfort, I may just add springs or Ground Controls and be done with it. I may do bushings, but it isn't a priority. A roll bar, doorbars and fixing the oil leaks are more of a concern to me at the moment. Oh, and this box o' stereo shite to install.

I do; since I'm not on the track, keeping it a bit loose lets me have fun up in the hills at lower speeds. That said, the R (RHD Car) weight percentage is 50.1%, the rear weight percentage is 49.8%, and the cross-weight percentage is 50.8%, all pretty balanced, I think. What values did you have on your NA? BTW, If you need PU bushings I've a full set minus the diff bushings I can send you, still in the bag--got them and then decided to get the V8 arms which have different sizes.

kung fu jesus
04-07-2013, 06:48 AM
Paul, I may take you up on that. Which ones are they? Energy?

On the NA, I balanced it 50/50 with a 1/2 tank and me in the car. I had the luxury of using David's scales. Your balance on a full tank prompted the question. It makes sense now.

After finally getting into Tina's 10ae a bit on this stereo install, I want to fly back to CA just to throttle the previous owner. I found a bit of patchwork stuff in the electronics that I had to correct and took a little time with the FSM to make sure it wasn't mixed up. Nothing too bad, just not very well done. Tina loves the new stereo! :)

Brakes are next week, if the stuff ships in from CA on time. I WAS going to get the bung welded in the midpipe to install the '01 exhaust mani, but I think the brakes are becoming a priority. I need to start driving this car more. I think Tina seems to have a higher tolerance to let certain things go until they REALLY need attention.

Installed DDMTuning.com's 55w 5000k kit. About 3 times more visibility at night than regular stock bulbs.

Good to hear! I had a kit from them for my old BMW and they never had an issue for the year or so that I had them

I made the mistake and bought mine as the 35watt kit from DDMTuning at 5000K. I now wish I bought the 55W instead. BUT I did learn that my passenger headlight cut off plate moves around so it won't stay level when moving along a bumpy road.

As for what I did today for the MSM, I cleaned all the water out of the trunk. I still having leaking issues from the accident. THIS SUCKS!

First post, be gentle!

New shift knob arrived today, purchased after a thread on here where a heavier shift knob was recommended for someone was looking for more fun... this had better be good! (I kid, I've been looking for something like this for a while, and the posts assisted greatly, so I thank you!)

Install tomorrow.

This happened yesterday, but competed in my first autocross and won 1st place in novice class and was second fastest overall. Only car faster was a stripped and caged M3 that was 0.6s faster. I thought that was pretty cool.

"Be gentle", this place is Candy Land compared to other so no worries mate. Some very friendly people around here. Besides, you gotta post pictures of it installed too. Very nice looking knob. I wanted to try a Blox shifter knob. Also, go introduce yourself in the "NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS". Show off some pictures of your Mazdaspeed (SE model in Australia I believe).

Nice. I was half a second behind a Evo before my Catalytic converter gave out. Then a stripped NA6 went out and kicked me in the face with a 0.8 second lead over me in third place.
