Hey everyone... noob here at installing steering wheels.
My set up is:
NRG Short Hub
NRG Quick Release 2.5
Nardi Deep Corn 330 mm wheel.
Going into my 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata.

Pulled off the stock wheel from the MSM this afternoon.
I had known from doing some research that the conductive plate on the back of the hub needed to be removed.
So I did so which freed up room behind the hub.
However the hub still wont fit over the connectors for the airbag and horn.
Wondering how others with this set up over came this issue?
Can the plastic be trimmed down without compromising the connections?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Pardon the crappy cell phone pics.

I just smashed up the black plastic thing with some pliers, and even with the conductive plate on the back of the hub, it fits.

i'm planning on hooking a resistor to the airbag wires and using the horn, were you still able to do those things after smashing the plastic pieces?

You can remove the plastic housing without touching the wires. Go for the dremel if you have one, use one of the milder engraving bits on a slower speed. They eat through plastic no problem. Should be precise enough to avoid the wires.

chipped away at the plastic connectors today, got the hub to fit over them, tomorrow i'll hook up the resistor and horn and install the wheel

What I found to be easier was to modify the hub rather than the clockspring connector. I trimmed away most of the plastic on the connector anyways and then drilled at the hub to make it easier for the hub to fit over the connector.

Ever get installed? I'm doing the same install except for a 350mm Nardi wheel on my NB right now so I'm kind of curious how you hooked up the horn
