Why did I name my car "Kirin"? Well several reasons;

1) I like Kirin Ichiban beer :drink:
2) I needed a name for the Miata
3) The Kirin is the Most powerful creature in Japanese mythology
(part Dragon/Horse/Unicorn)

Anyhow, here is my recently acquired 1993LE Miata, it came factory fresh with super low miles 8,800 or some madness. (not bad for a 19 year old car  ) The prior owner was from south florida that never drove it in the rain, always kept in a garage under a car cover and only hand washed it. I spoke with him on the phone about the car briefly as I had questions about the Sebring SuperCharger that was installed on it. He told me he bought it new and drove it to mazda and had them install it for him. Anyhow, I saw this car and just fell in love.

Here is the ad with photo as it read.

1993 LE Miata with 8,800 Miles. Supercharged by Mazda Dealership and One Owner car!

Original paint, panels, soft top. Original Bilstein suspension, BBS wheels. Has the full red tonneau cover, red boot and some swag (key chain, owners letter and books). Oh yeah.... original Bridgestone tires as well (ha!). Hand washed only. Okay, so for the purists, its not unadulterated but it does move out quite a bit better than stock. Sebring Supercharger AND to really tweak the fundamentalists, it has a pin stripe. Its vinyl, so easily removable. Everything is stock and working. Cold R12 AC, quick windows, fast working power antenna, all back lights on the MSSS radio work (CD has been checked and works), cruise control works, power mirrors work like new, etc..

This color combo has always been a dream of mine, as my first Miata was a black and tan 1992-SE. Then I saw one of these and just always wanted one. Well guess what, I finally have one! woot woot !!

Plans are to remove the supercharger and install a turbo, along with lots of parts I have leftover from my last build, the R2-Limited.

Here are some photos of her, say hello to ..... Kirin :bangle:

Here is when I first picked her up!!

….. and the car is running a mild 6psi boost

So far the only thing I have done with the 1993 LE was remove the original 20 year old Bridgestone tires and install some fresh Falken tires.

Falken Azenis 615K's 195/60 -14's got these from a friend in the local club who had them less than a month and upgraded to 15" wheels/tires.

Got these from Rick at http://www.RoadsterTECH.net thanks man!!

Long time no update……..

Supercharger removed, car is bone stock now.

I had briefly considered selling the car as it had become increasingly hard for me to modify such a pristine example of this car, and I had a guy offer me more than what I paid for it. However, after much debate with myself I realized I will never find another nice unmolsted miata so I might as well start with this one. I have been hoarding a lot of parts for the car so this build should be an interesting one to say the least. And it should piss off plenty of the purists as well. :teehee:

Anyhow here are some recent photos ………..

Paint and Body is a solid 10, car is flawless, not even a door ding to be found.

Engine Bay all back to stock now since removing the SuperCharger, planning to install an FM2 Turbo in its place.

Notice it still has the factory spark plug wires they came with from the factory. Ill be upgrading those to NGK Blues shortly.

Check out that interior, wow, it really looks, feels, and smells showroom fresh!! Its really pretty crazy! Like a time capsule from 1993

When was the last time you saw a low number like this? LOL

Trunk is nice and clean too, I went ahead and installed the OEM spare tire storage bowl, pretty neat it holds stuff yes, but more importantly cleans up the inside of the spare tire area for a more finished look. Got the Miata trunk storage container from a fellow Miata fanatic on the forum as a gift. (Thanks Ricky)

So. Damn. Envious.

Eagerly awaiting for all of the rumored hella rare and super dope parts you have to go onto that car.

I like a blank canvas when I start working, and don't worry, you are way ahead of me on your build, I have a LOT of catching up to do. :fp:

Finally was reunited with my old St. Mays Shotgun Exhaust, however this will be getting some modifications to make the piping much larger for forced induction later down the road.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3931/15246359817_3774a0d04a_h.jpg

Some of you guys will remember it was on my last Roadster, the R2-Limited.

https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2634/3993906209_c7dca028f3_o.jpg

The goal is to make the piping from the cans back to the resonator larger to maybe 2.5 inch after I get the turbo installed, and then ill mock up something similar to this with a notch in the back bumper so that I can raise the cans higher and closer to the underside of the car. If you have ever owned the ShotGun you'll know it sits VERY low and I always worried about damage from road debris it I run over something on the road.

Still, what I wouldn't do for original paint and a perfectly straight body like that.

Oh, and you know, a mint 93LE.

Great news! Looking forward to this. I think it's a great move. Most mods are reversible anyway unless you're planning flared fenders. You've shown yourself that with the supercharger removal.

Polished Brass Nielex sphere 335grams

John J
02-25-2015, 06:32 PM
The sphere needs more high speed buffing with buffing compound. There are to many mirco-scratches on the surface. If polished right the shifter sphere will look like a mirror.

Phatmiata
02-25-2015, 08:27 PM
That was a quick 10 minute hand polish. I don't have access to a polishing wheel anymore so I'll need to figure out how can I polish out those tiny polish marks and such.

Phatmiata
02-26-2015, 09:55 AM
.... a little more elbow grease and put it on the digital scale, 335 grams, pretty heavy sphere!!

Judging by the more yellowish color im pretty sure this is solid Brass, although it could be Bronze since they both will get that brown patina color over time and use, but I got this for the weight as well, and its really heavy in your hand!

(waits for brass balls puns) :teehee:

the plan is to use this with one of the Nielex consoles I have to add some contrast in the interior.

Got this old out of production Brain Storm Products NACA Headlight lid.

I had to drive an hour out of town to buy it but it was well worth it to me!!

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8737/16616996269_81d89fee99_c.jpg

I had one of these on my first NA Miata back in the day but sold it with the car in 1998. So I was happy to re-unite with this quality item. These are actually the OEM Mazda Miata lids that got stamped and they re-welded the vent in. Very period correct 1990's mod, looks similar to the 1988 Nissan 300zx cars. Everyone really liked these lids since they are OEM and metal you dont have to worry about the mounting tabs breaking off like on the fiberglass versions.

This one came off another 1993LE so the paint is right, just a bit more weathered than mine. But my car will get repainted someday anyhow, so no worries.

The underside had some very light surface rust, so I knocked it off with some 220 grit sand paper and then repainted it with 3 light coats of Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7596/16615860910_a1502c62f3_b.jpg

There was some light rustproofing spray on there already from when they made these, and it looks to of held up well.

I went ahead and knocked off the rust and got it back down to the bare metal

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7596/16803230005_b4e8c83bd5_c.jpg

Taped up and ready for some primer + paint, yes I know its overkill, but I am OCD about my parts, so sue me, LOL

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8742/16803226055_e0613e1edf_b.jpg

now I just need to wait for the paint to dry for 24 hours and I will install this.

Lucky for me the high today is 84 degrees so the paint is drying fast between coats

I know it is hard to tell but this is actually the backside of the lid.

He was the younger guy that signed up for the military?

Here it is sitting on the car, I need to align it a bit, but at least the paint matches.

Gotta Give Thanks to Adam @ http://www.Revlimiter.net for his awesome write up on these, otherwise I would not have known about this!!

The old one was from 2011  so probably time to change it eh? It was a Factory Mazda Battery, but was the liquid type (Yuck)

Here is the new one, this is the Gel type so no worries about spilling battery acid or corrosion in the trunk.

Prying open the OEM Gauge Cluster

To separate the gauge cover panel from the assembly, push in the black plastic tabs on top and the bottom of the housing using a flat blade screw driver.

Next step is to separate the clear acrylic cover from the base. The clear cover is glued to the base and must be cut away using an inexpensive acrylic cutter (available at home improvement centers). Using gentle pressure, score the acrylic cover several times until the scoring line is quite deep. Gently twist the cover from the base to separate. The resulting cut should be smooth and clean. If there are minor cracks or irregularities, do not worry since the dash pod will hide them once reinstalled.

Be careful when pulling this back, you just need a little room so that you can move the wires over a tad and then remove the light. Not all Miatas had this upgrade, mostly just the power option models in the USA. Most people mistake it for a gas light, but if you run your gas that low youll find out the hard way its not, :teehee:

Remove partitions around indicators.

When your Needle position is vertical (6-o'clock)
When the needle start position is vertical like my version, you should remove the small plastic partitions around the indicators at the bottom of the tachometer (headlights, hold sign for AT, air-bag). It you do not, the bottom of the tachometer will not be lighted. Use a small nipper to clip and remove the partition material. If your new gauge needle start position is at the stock location, you do not need to remove any of the partition material.

Mounted the ArtWorks Dewa Cluster Cover to the OEM Mazda Miata Cluster, next step is to add the Art Works Dewa Rings.

Although the double sided tape should be strong enough to hold the AWD panel cover, the use of additional screws (included in the package) is recommended. You will have to drill pilot holes before attaching the screws. Once the panel cover is installed, remove any OEM rings before installing AWD rings.

Gluing the Rings in place
Here I used a CLEAR Polyether Sealant / Adhesive by Chemlink - called "Clear", there is ZERO VOC, and ZERO Isocyanates so no worries about fumes attacking the metal, plastic, or lenses. Best part is no odor and cleans up perfectly with rubbing alcohol. Some guys use silicone which is fine too, however this polyether will grab faster, cures faster, bonds to anything, and has a much higher and longer lasting bond strength than silicone does.

You only need a few dabs of this material as it is a very sticky (messy) paste that grabs really well.

ArtWorks Dewa THICK Gauge Rings

Props to @Vote4Pedro for trading these with me for these AWD Thick Rings. Here I am just using a wire hanger that I cut and used to poke the nozzle of the glue seal and push a little adhesive out. Again very little is needed, this adhesive sealant is amazingly strong.

The first 2 rings are now in place and you can see the dramatic effect those diamond tooled ArtWorks Dewa rings make, they are really just stunning in person, pictures can never do these justice, seeing is believing.

One thing about the ArtWorks Dewa Gauge panels I was not liking was that white bulb dead center that Dewa used for some of the High Beam indicator, so I had ordered some Purple and this Blue indicator bulb from KG Works https://www.kgworks.co.jp/ and swapped that bulb out on this panel and a few others I have. All the rest is ArtWorks Dewa's parts though.

OEM Needles and ArtWorks Dewa Needle Caps
The ArtWorks Caps fit very snug over the OEM needles however I would still recommend a small dab of adhesive, remember never use solvent based adhesives or super glues because they constantly "out gas" the solvents and isocyanates and will stain and ruin your gauges and fog up everything with the fumes!

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7600/16899946921_ffd1b47dc0_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/rKoDrc)OEM Needles and ArtWorks Dewa Needle Caps (https://flic.kr/p/rKoDrc) by Randy George (https://www.flickr.com/photos/phatmiata/), on Flickr

And mounted, the effect this simple upgrade makes is just incredible, especially at night when you are driving top down. The street pole lights with race around the needle caps an guage rings as you drive past them, its just outstanding to see in person.

...... and then by about 3.5 hours later, I finally finished the job, here is a stock NA cluster vs my new ArtWorks Dewa setup, what do you think?

I will edit this post to make it a proper write up on all the work involved to customize your cluster later, I took plenty of photos

Re-install the instrument assembly in the car without the clear plastic gauge cover and reconnect the connectors and speedometer cable. Run the engine with no accessories, lights, or air conditioner until normal operating temperature is reached.
While engine is running, gently set the needles at the same positions as indicated in your photograph or diagram. Note that the tachometer and speedometer needles are different. See below for typical locations of the needles. Do not firmly set the needles at this time.

Filler Up!

Easiest way to set the gas gauge needle to to go fill up the gas tank, then you can set it to the "full" position

And so here is the first hiccup with the Miata, apparently this was a common problem? The strange thing is I owned a 91 Miata, and a 92 Miata, and never had this problem, now I go to install my gauges on my 93 Miata this week and guess what?

“Miata Sticky Dash Syndrome”

what a sticky nasty mess, all this black paint is coming off the gauge hood? And it took some elbow grease to get this stuff off my fingers too!! grrrrrrrrr

I went online to one of our forum sponsors and ordered a new Miata Gauge Hood as I just dont have time (or patience) to mess with this sticky mess at the moment and really want to drive the car

Price: was the cheapest online at $100.21 :slayer:

Took my son for a ride in the Miata to pick up this Montego Blue hardtop. It was an hour long ride one way but I really wanted a hardtop and most either get sold too fast or are beat to crap.

The guy I bought this from is a member from my local club and was kind enough to hold it for me. Thanks Gerry !!

So Kirin the Roadster now has a hardtop !!

And BTW the Red interior against that Montego Blue looks wonderful !!! That would make a killer interior swap, just saying !!

My son told me this is just the coolest car, and he loves the pop up headlights;

"the pop up headlights is the coolest part Dad!" and he really like how low to the ground the car is. I was going to get into the whole center of gravity talk, but I was just happy that he was with me for the ride in the Miata.

"...... this car gets a thumbs up Dad, please don't ever sell it."

I remember how upset he was when I sold the White 96 Miata so I promised him I will not sell this car

So cool that your son is into the car. I remember being that age and being very into my dads TR-3, hoping he would give it to me some day. Unfortunately he sold it. Scarred me for life :cry2:
I have an eleven year old daughter who loves riding in the Miata. She'll be one of the only girls (or anybody for that matter) in her high school who will know how to drive a manual transmission.

The Nardi Classico will see most of the driving duty as it flows better with my retro interior theme. And maybe I will just bring out the M2-1001 for Miata only events or some such. But then only 5% of the Miata owners would even know what this wheel is about anyhow.

So Nardi Classico for now............

Yes I will for sure be teaching both of my sons how to drive manual transmissions. However I will get them a learner Miata for that, I don't want them to destroy the clutch in the 93 Miata learning on it. Also would like to get them excited about their own Miata in hopes of building a nice street or track Miata. This way they can better appreciate the time, effort, and funds that goes into building a car the way you like it. :blaugh2:

...... the OEM Knee Panel in the USA is made from HEAVY metal and its almost 2 lbs !!! And they always seem to fall off during aggressive shifting anyhow. yuck, I hated that heavy panel

USDM VERSION almost 2 lbs !!!

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7591/16897146489_85f289fde2_b.jpg

JAPAN SPEC VERSION only 6 ounces !!

Check out the weight loss, that is called adding lightness hahahaha. And yes sure I could remove the panel and leave it off, or even gut the interior to save weight, but anyone can do that, I wanted to keep the car looking factory on the inside, so this was a neat little way to drop 1.5 lbs off the car without sacrificing looks. This is a Street car after all.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8785/16875966267_2d8eda1899_b.jpg

Back in 1994 Mazda Released a very special Eunos Roadster called the RS-Limited

It had a beautiful Dark Metallic Blue Paint (maybe it was Montego?), and came from the factory with 15" BBS wheels, Bilstein Shocks, Upgraded Springs, LSD w/ a higher final drive ratio, Nardi leather handles Shift Knob (same ones from the (93LE & 95M), and Carbon Kevlar Recaro racing seats. (probably the most sought after seats besides M2 seats)

I think his Maruha version are more race oriented?? The Maruha I'm using are the "Street" version that gives a more "comfortable" ride. My last miata had race springs which kicked butt at the autoX however the ride on the street was too harsh for my back. So I'm trying the street version this go around.

These Maruha are worth EVERY penny !!! I am totally in love with them!! I have owned KYB/RacingBeat, GAB 8-way, Tanabe Pro Sustec, and the Maruha are hands down the best riding street coilovers!!

My car is lowered and yet it still takes bumps like a champ!! I intentionally drove over a row of those street reflectors, and the warning bumps on the side of the road and it just goes boop boop boop boop boop boop, with very minimal transfer of those to my seat. Before when I had the Tanabe Coilovers I would cringe going over any bumps, I remember just bracing myself for impact!! Heck I could even feel the paint lines on the road, I hated those. Yeah I know its not slammed anymore, but damn that crappy ride, im over that. These Maruha Street Coilovers make my car feel like a modern day cars suspension. Not too stiff, and not too soft, just the perfect balance. Maruha knows what he is doing!!

You can read more about them here.

http://chikaramotor.com/catalog/product/maruha-bc-damper-nb-upper-mount-nanb/

I just cannot tell you how happy I am with these, just the perfect street ride coilover system.

Installed this rear BeatRush strut tower bar I got from Bill at http://www.MiataRoadster.com

http://i.imgur.com/NwNniCo.jpg

http://imgur.com/Gol3Ti4.jpg

I was fighting with the stupid OEM crimped nuts that are on the shocks Top Hats too long so I just replaced them with some fresh Stainless steel versions. The stock ones are too fat to fit with the Beatrush bar so the new fancy ones are slimmer and don't stick like the crimped ones.

http://imgur.com/762SY96.jpg

Getting behind the fuel hoses was a pain in the butt. Make sure you have a swivel head adapter handy. And if you have gorilla hands better find somebody with JDM sized hands to fit in that corner.

http://imgur.com/BqgjCgs.jpg

Also installed the auto trunk pop shock. It lifts the trunk so the lid doesn't fall on your head while digging in the trunk.

http://imgur.com/eaZ4Fl1.jpg

But if you have a wing or lip spoiler it only works half as well. I also noticed it kinda raises the trunk on one side when closed. Not sure if I'm sold on it. So I might go back to stock. We will see.

you will definitely need a JDM waste line to fit into these seats, and I can probably lose a few pounds too, been a while since I had these mounted. I forgot how tight they are, hahaha.

As for those curious about weights:

Stock leather seats with rails 35.6 lbs
Nakamae seats with rails 22.0 lbs

Also found this under the stock seats, must have been from the prior owners

Great seats btw Randy! Maybe I'll ask Maxime if he can try to source me some vent grommets from Nakamae San so i can have them installed on my type s seats by a reputable shop.

Installed some JDM R-Limited seat belts. I bought these probably 10 years ago, sold them to a buddy and bought them back.

So what's the big deal about these? Not much really other than these DONT have the rip stop in the seats belts since they did not get airbags in Roadsters until 1997-98

So basically for me it's easier to install these than to sit at a table cutting out the us-spec ripstop

Here is the JDM next to the US-Spec version, I am pointing to the us version with ripstop.

Below is a link to why you need to remove the ripstops

Is that a rhetorical question Randy?

Well even if it is i guess for the benefit of others the point of the 'ripstop' in air bag equipped cars is to slow the occupants momentum prior to air bag contact and lessening overall impact speed into the air bag. Now remove the airbag and it's no longer a safety feature but a risk of increased injury or this is my understanding of its function. :fp:(i still need to cut my ripstop on the driver side)

Taking apart this 91 BRG dash to powdercoat the dash support bar, and then use it in the 93le Miata.

http://i.imgur.com/bn4NGVl.jpg

Here is the dash bar removed from the dash, this dash only had 44k miles on it so it has very little surface rust. All that will get removed in the chemical wash and then powdercoated. Gotta find some other parts to powdercoat at the same time so all my OCD clean can be done.

http://i.imgur.com/hBm6NiZ.jpg

These stupid machine screws that are used to "ground" the dash bar to the rest of the car are seized, and of course they stripped

http://i.imgur.com/ZIEXAeW.jpg

I tried to drill them out and use and extractor to remove it but that failed.

So instead I pulled out the lock-jaw and crimped the backside of the screw and was able to break it loose. And yes those nuts on the backside are welded on.

RS*R Ex-Mag GT-II

Low miles apparently was only used a few thousand miles and then removed because the owner wanted something else.

Overall good condition, no rust which is rare, and even came with the silencer (which I'll probably remove later)

There is some light discoloration from heat and being used, but that was expected. But anyhow really happy with this purchase. Hoping to get this on the car soon.

So I forgot I had this custom B6 valve cover powdercoated in wrinkle red from Alex here on the forum, it was some really fabulous work. I think I posted it on the forum but cant find the old post

Time for a LONG overdue update...............

Because Miatapalooza took up ALL my free time recently, and so Ive been neglecting this thread.

Here is some upgrades I got done just before Miatapalooza.

Transporting the Harddog Rollbar in the Mazdaspeed3 to get installed in Kirin the Miata

Sat the bar in for a test fit and realized I have to do some more cutting on the back shelf

Lining up the lower section of the seat belt tower and the rollbar, perfect fit, going smooth almost too easy, props to Jeff the Ninja for helping me out, all my tools are in storage so I drove to his shop to use his air tools.

I have to make up my mind soon because we moved into a smaller house now and the wife is not digging the Nakamae seats in our closet. :fp:

Tough choice. They both look good but I would go with the rarer one.

Since Nakamae does not offer these Type-R bucket seats anymore unless you are a prior customer I'm guessing that would make them more rare?

However the Lotus seats have been created using actual quilted materials imported from Nakamae, so which is more rare? its about the same IMHO.

Which one provides more comfort on a long drive? That would be my pick.

JamieH
12-10-2017, 08:09 PM
My own bias says the Type Rs look better. But if in your position I wouldn't know which to keep. The Lotus seats are an incredibly unique one-off pair, using material from Nakamae makes them pretty much legit.

I don't know, regardless which seats stay in Kirin, they're going to look fantastic. Kind of hard to go wrong with either.

tsingson
12-10-2017, 10:24 PM
I would go with the actual Nakamae seat. But thats me personally. You can have Lotus seats recovered and have it look very close. Those Nakamae seats are very hard to come by. The problem will be finding someone to pay the scratch those Lotus seats should command. Everyone is broke. But if anyone is looking for a RyokuRob drivers side bracket, I have mine for sale.

I would have to admit I had not really thought about this? The Lotus seats had extra padding added along with inflatable lumbar support and the quilted padding on top, however the Nakamae Type-R are super snug fitting, extra comfy and super low to the ground. I will say after reading JamieH's review I started to miss having the bucket seats in the Miata though.....

#1 priority is comfort.

I’m more of a fan of custom solutions, it’s a lot harder to find the same thing in another car than an ordered product, no matter how rare. It shows initiative and vision. Can’t duplicate that. ;) I’m not bagging on anyone for their choices, just my opinion.

So the big ticket item, it is the FMII Turbo kit (no electronics version) for a 1990-93 NA 1.6L. This kit is brand new and actually is still all in the box. I need to pull the box out of the garage and get some pics of everything, but just haven't had the time. It’s the standard GT2560R turbo offered with their kits, and note that it’s configured for a downpipe with NA8 cat (better flow). This kit has pretty much every option offered by FM at the time. The full parts list/invoice is quoted at the end of the post. Main upgrades include:
- Stage 8 hardware
- Hard lines for oil drain
- Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors
- 19" intercooler (larger upgrade over included intercooler, not a standard FM NA6 catalog item that they offered me).

This kit set me back over $4k plus shipping

got up early today to meet with Alex aka MX5militia on Instagram. He came in yesterday with his RHD Imported S-Limited Eunos Roadster from Japan, he is the new owner of the Lotus/93LE Quilted seats now, so we swapped out the seats last night and then planned to meet up today for a quick photo in the area with his S-Limited and my 93LE

Does that make sense?

If I recall correctly, didn't the US '93 LE's also come with the Bilstein badge/sticker that could be owner applied?

I have mixed feelings about drilling holes in fenders (or any part of my cars, for that matter). BUT, if big overfenders are in the works for Kirin, my vote is for ZOOM sidemarkers-winkers for that little splash of chrome to go with everything else. They're also LED now, which is kind of neat.

He'll NEVER cut up Kirin. I've told Randy many times over the years to just buy a decent, non-riced NA and put the widebody kit on that.

You can get them on YahooJP. I bought a couple, but ended up going with the Bilstein badge they put on Subies. Hard to see in this pic, but it's forward of the side winker.

Nah, gotta buy a clutch, flywheel, and radiator yet. The stock parts won’t hold that kinda power.

Randy, FWIW:

If it were me, I'd be looking at FM's Stage 1 with the 10.3 flywheel. That's what I have in the BRG with the smaller turbo, and it's excellent. Pedal feel is great. The light flywheel does take a little getting used to...

Radiator and coolant reroute, the price of 949's package deal hasn't dropped with the introduction of the new QMax reroute, but their radiator is as good or better than FM's and still almost $100 less expensive. The complete QMax is just shy of $600, but will be the way I go for my next one...

I don't recall if your setup came with a boost gauge or Air/Fuel gauge... but if Adam is doing gauges for you, I'm pretty sure he can do faces for some of those, too.. I don't recall which ones. AEM maybe? I went with Speedhut for my boost gauge, the needle and lettering match my OE gauges perfectly, the lighting is a different shade of green, but not bad.

Prepping for the turbo installation took longer than installing the system and tuning it. Lots of planning and forethought involved, otherwise you chase your own tail.

Just another $.02. I've been talking to both 949 and FM on cooling options and got an honest point of view from Dan on the Supermiata radiator vs FM's cross flow. Essentially he said that on track and with proper ducting 949's has lots of cooling and is several pounds lighter (and cheaper). 949 typically delete the AC fan and only use one OEM fan in their race cars. However he did say that for a street car in traffic, or with poor airflow management (AC, no ducting, no hood vents) a larger radiator and upgraded fans might be prudent.

Given that I've decided to add the Qmax along with FM's stage 1 rad and fans.

What can I say here, Adam @ Revlimiter.net is THEE MAN when it comes to custom gauges. I have seen his work on some other nice cars in the bay area, however this is my first time seeing his brand NEW Version (Generation 3) gauges in person. Wow, this new version is just spectacular in person, with the wrinkle finish, richer colors, better lighting, and more depth in the numbers, and a more durable material he is using now, its just crazy how great these look!! :frantic:

All I can say is do yourself a favor and go buy some Revlimiter gauge faces now, dont think about it any longer! If you have older REV faces, or Dewa faces, just sell them and buy his new version, you cannot go wrong!!

I tried to take photos of mine, but heck even Adam's photos dont do these faces justice, you really have to see these in person!! Thank you Adam for such a great product for our Miatas!!

So after I got the guages back from Revlimiter I realized that the rough ride back from AZ to FL the two main lenses had come somewhat loose, so I had to take them all the way off, and clean them again and re-glue them back in.

I messed it up several times making a mess, and finally gave it another go the following day after some sleep. My eyes and hands/fingers are not as nimble as they used to be. This kinda work sucks and is very tedious.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1801/28981591908_b6082248fd_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/La1ez7)AWD lenses cleaned and reseated (https://flic.kr/p/La1ez7) by Randy George (https://www.flickr.com/photos/phatmiata/), on Flickr

here we go again............

I put tiny tiny pencil head sized beads of sealant on the lens using a wood toothpick, this picture shows a bit better.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1802/27985590887_ac5a098d63_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JCZtaH)AWD lenses cleaned and reseated (https://flic.kr/p/JCZtaH) by Randy George (https://www.flickr.com/photos/phatmiata/), on Flickr

im pretty sure I cleaned each lens 10 or more times and re-seated the lens 5 times because I kept smearing the sealant on the lens making a mess of them

then finally got them right, with little to no sealant showing, this was freaking annoying, I did lots of model planes as a child but my eyes and fingers just can't do this as well as when I was a kid, and not without me getting me frustrated as hell doing it.

bam ...........

done finally and installed back into the miata, but not without adding a little more bling in the form of this cool odometer trip/reset from RetroModernUSA, "Thanks Ken"

Also found a seller in Japan making these custom made Key hole covers, I bought this back in April and finally found it in my toolbox, so I made sure to install it right then so that I would not misplace it again.
