Which Rear View mirror looks best with my 93LE Retro build??

KG-Works
Polished Stainless Steel standard Glass

Zoom Engineering
Chrome mirror, aluminum stalk, Blue Glass

I like them both but too hard to pick just one.

I prefer the slim lines of the KG Works, and have always consider polished stainless/aluminum more or a retro look than the darker chrome.

I've voted for the KGworks. It just has more vintage vibe than the Zoom one.

I have both well 4 in total as the KG Works in the pitcrew and various Zoom versions in 3 of my other roadsters. Prefer the KG Works for the retro style but like the build quality and design of the Zoom Engineering models.

As mentioned buy another roadster and have both!

Gonna have to vote for the Zoom as well. I think the shape is more complementary to the Miata. From the outside you'll either see a nicely rounded mirror or a square one. The finish will look pretty similar. I think the Zoom would be superior.

Think I prefer the KG one for a retro look. The Zoom one looks a bit too similar to the £5 ones you can get out of a new shape Mini, so has to be KG for me

Amen for that Mini comment (and please do not flame me...)

yes being a former MINI cooper owner I was thinking the same, but the bubbly style of the Zoom flows with the NA, NB, NC pretty good too

Which one works better? The Zoom looks like it's smaller and may not function as well. Gotta stay safe!

Zoom also makes products for the Mini(s) as well.

Why not mount them both and take some pics to help you decide. Bottom line, vintage, modified, what ever you want to call them, it comes down to what you like and feel is appropriate for your ride.

I would test drive cars with both of the mirrors, even if I had to beg a few of my friends to let me use their cars to make my decision, so it could be made on both form an function.

Having seen both mirrors in real life, side by side, i would have to say Zoom. Its a more functional mirror that flows better with the design of the Miata. (Me not beeing a huge fan of 60s style products in a 90s car).

Does the Zoom mirror come with the wide angle blue glass standard? I had considered going with the KGW mirror in the past, but I use a broadway wide-angle mirror, and wouldn't want to cover the aftermarket mirror. The Zoom mirror looks fantastic.

I'd go with the Zoom mirror myself. Good luck Randy!

KG Works for retro. Zoom if you want everything on your car to look like a round pill.

KG for a 93LE, but I'm not fond of the lack of day/night.
If you want a pill, get one from a PT cruiser, since they have map lights…….But no JDM Yo.

I thought the lack of day/night function would bother me with the KGW mirror, but it has surprisingly turned out to to be very rare that I get headlights behind me that really bother me. In fact, I'm more bothered by driving toward the sun late in the day than I am by headlights in my rearview mirror. If, however, your car is a DD that you have to drive at night, practicality may trump style. My '92 hasn't been a DD for almost 16 years, so I don't get the opportunity to grow tired of headlights in the rearview mirror. You'll have to judge such matters based on your own use and preferences or style vs. function. I think most who go with KGW, like myself, are placing style over function, but that's a personal decision you should make for yourself and not base it on the preferences of others. Be your own man and march to your own beat. Unless other people are helping to pay for your build and have some say, build whatever makes you excited about getting into your car and driving it. It may be entirely irrational, but enjoying how your car looks makes the driving experience that much more entertaining.

^^ same as above ^^ my Miata is not a daily anymore, and pretty rare I drive at night. so Im gonna run with the KG-Works, I have a couple other Zoom mirrors so trying to cut down on the parts hoarding so I can build my Miata up again.

Zoom is for sale http://mazdaroadster.net/showthread.php?13190

KG Works

Only downside of using the KGWorks in my car the past couple days is that it gets dirty and greasy pretty easily. I have a clean microfiber cloth to clean it everytime I adjust it.

Is your mirror loose such that it moves and requires frequent adjusting? Maybe just tightening it would solve that issue?

RustRat
12-16-2015, 04:55 AM
No, it's really tight. I am changing driving positions regularly though, depending how I want to drive (I'm 1.90m -don't know in feet) and I have to adjust the angle.

flooglemop

That's interesting because I rarely if ever change my driving position. Are you taking your car to the track or something?
