I'm looking at a set of wheels to go with my Nopro kit and have come across a staggered set, 15 x 9" / 10". I know the MX5 prefers an all square setup, but they are nice wheels, and the right money ... I have the option in the future of buying a pair in 9, or 10, to make it match if needed.

Buying them is the easy bit, in the UK tyre choice is pretty limited so finding some rubber is going to be the hard part ... I want something that is road legal, but pretty aggressive

UK Tyre options ...
225/45/15 Dmack
225/45/15 Toyo R888
225/50/15 Toyo R888
225/50/15 Yokohama A048
245/40/15 Avon

Ideally the 9s would have 225/45/15 and the 10s would have 245/40/15 ... but I can't do that and have a set of matched tyres. The Avons are stupidly expensive and very hard to find, so I think they are out. The R888s or Dmack come in the best size for the 9s, but I'm not sure how they would look on a 10?
Are there any tyres available in the US that I could import that come in better sizes? Ideally something that's road legal, but available in both 25/45 and 245/40.

My other option is go straight to selling the 10s (or the 9s) and make up a set that's matched.

Any ideas or help would be great, pics of 225 / 45 / 15 on a 15 x 10" wheel would be especially good as well.

Russell.

Here's 225/45/15 on a 15x10... R888's near the bottom.

Unfortunately, to get a matching 225/50R15 and 245/40R15 in the U.S., you'd have to get slicks:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?frontWidth=225%2F&frontRatio=45&frontDiameter=15&rearWidth=245%2F&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=15&zip-code=

You can mount 225/45R15 on 15x10s (friend of mine had 225/45R15 Hankook RS3s mounted on 15x10 6ULs), the tires would be a bit stretched. But it didn't look "hellaflush" stretched.

245/40/15 Maxxis VR1 is coming out in a few months supposedly. You can run them on 9s and 10s. If you don't need 245s, you can do 225 on 10 without too much trouble.

Cool cheers, will get 225 all round and see how it goes. Thinking by the time I've worn out the set the 245 street tyres might be out from Maxxis. Or I'll have decided I don't really need them

I'd suggest getting a set of 5 if you get a hard(popular) to get tire because i have now been roadster-less for 2.5 weeks because i hit a huge rock with my rear passenger side 225 RS3 and you can't get them anywhere currently. If you go 225 I'd definitely go straight to a 9" wheel, wish i had. I would like to try the 245 Maxxis but if definitely is overkill for the street but would look sick on a 15"×10". :)

Interesting, just found out that Dmack do their track day tyre in 224/45/15 and 265/40/15 ... might have to see what a 265 looks like on a 10" wheel as at least these would be road legal ... also available and not expensive.

Not sure, but Dmack make a lot of rally tyres so they might be for that. Thanks to Vegard I've found the R888s are available in the UK in both 225/45/15 and 235/50/15 so I'll get a pair of 225s and try one on a 10" wheel. If it's a bit too small I'll put them on the 9s and get 235s for the back but from looking at some pics they should be fine all round.

235/50/15 will be taller and will reduce effective gearing.

I so wish these were road legal, but for whatever reason Maxxis have decided not to legalise them for the UK. Gutting, especially as I test fitted a pair of 225/45/15 on the 10s and they really don't look good at all!
Think I'm going to buy another pair of 9s and have them all round.
