Since it's February of 2016, and there isn't a new thread, I'll just drop this here. Oil change and a bath on a lovely 67* January day!

Yeah, the smaller wheels give it the rally stance. Not sure if bigger tires or lower suspension will help. Tires will need replacing soon, as the Sport Comp 2s are at the wear bars

Today, I'll receive the last of my brake parts. Hopefully, I'll be able to do the install this weekend.

Tonight I may try to install the new window bushings, and clean/re-grease the guides. I do have the regulators, and the glass actually, from the 2000, so that could make the job a freaking snap.

Waiting on an order from garagestar that should be here tomorrow. Getting a stainless ebrake lever and a radiator cooling plate. Just some shiny stuff before a show this weekend. I put the last Hardtop plate for the rear feet. Hardtop sits real nice now. Will see if I still get the vibrating noise in the back but I think I got it. Glad your top is right. I need to either start refreshing my hard top, or sell it. Weather's been too nice to rock it, so it's been top down, mostly.

Finally going to wrench on the car. Pads, rotors, lines, and window bushing, oil change.

Ooh also, yesterday I picked up an email code followed by a cylinder 2 misfire. Not this shit again! The black car had a misfire plague that lasted quite a while. Guess I'll start cheap. New plugs and wires are due anyways. Going to check for spark, see if a coil is crapping out.

Ugh. So much for progress..
Toasted rear caliper

Also, I'm trying to hunt down a recurring (4x now) p24002 code.

Evap system leak. I'm thinking:
Purge solenoid (should have one fro the 2000 to swap/test.
Gas cap. (test from the 2000 part).
Evap Leak detection pump

or the highly unlikely:
Short to power circuit between the pump and PCM
Bad PCM

I TRIED to polish the lips on my work cr-01 wheels yesterday while I was detailing the car. They're not damaged or dull, just some spots that aren't as shiny as I'd like. Damnit they won't polish! Going to try a different intake setup. Made a trade for some other car goodies. Now I just need to find out how to relocate the coolant tank, and also clean this filter.

HarryB

Awesome setup! You can relocate the expansion tank anywhere; does not need to be higher than the radiator really, as long as the feed tube goes on the bottom or is submerged.

Demon I Am
05-03-2016, 08:56 AM
Guess I'll have to poke around under there and figure it all out. This didn't come with a relocation bracket for the coolant bottle, but I can probably figure something out.

The filter needs a good soaking and recharge as well.

HarryB
05-03-2016, 09:13 AM
My vote would be ditching the OEM expansion tank and get a generic one. My personal favorite place would be inside the bumper, on the side of the radiator or in front of the wheel well

Demon I Am
05-03-2016, 10:04 AM
I was about to start looking for options/pics of other peoples' setups.

HarryB
05-03-2016, 03:43 PM
Well, you do not need to. The way the expansion tank works is simple. As coolant gets hot, it expands and goes to the tank (after a certain pressure is reached, dictated by the radiator cap). As the fluid cools, the valve in the radiator cap allows the fluid to re-enter the radiator. You only need to make sure you either have the line at the bottom of the tank, or if going in from the top, extend it inside the tank all the way to the bottom and keep it submerged so that the system can suck fluid back without sucking air.

Summit has this little neat generic catch can: http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/sum-g1472/overview/

Lots and lots on eBay as well!

Removed the Ray's wheels and went back to the stockers. The tread is low enough, that with the near-constant rain they were not the safest choice for a 90-mile daily commute. I forgot how much more quiet these touring tires are.

Also fit the AutoExe intake. Installation is definitely weird with this one. It just kinda sits there. Definitely a little louder than the AEM intake, but only on hard acceleration. Once you are cruising or mildly accelerating, it's not much different. Still need to come up with a solution for my coolant relocation, and to re-wrap the AFM wires.

This thread needs more pics! Would love to see the new intake installed!

I need it to stop being cold and rainy, so that I can clean up the bay, and figure out what to do with the coolant tank. Right now, it's just wedged in place. I think that i want a reservoir similar in size and shape to the Power steering one, since they'll both be on the same side of the bay. Or I'll mount it in the driver's bumper hole, like everyone else.

I need an alignment anyway! They're surprisingly comfy considering my 38" waist. They recommend that your waist size be no larger than 34" for these (I guess I have a narrow ass lol)

So, yeah, this has been the first dry day in what seems like weeks. So far, no issues with the AutoEXE intake. Wedging the coolant bottle behind the passenger headlight and power steering reservoir has not given any issues, yet. I'll rock it this way until a more attractive solution comes along.

Still have not installed the new edging, or found a color-appropriate coupler, but it'll happen.

What holds the AutoExe filter housing to the body? Is there a way for outside air to go thru on that side? I always wonder why factory had to cross over the filter on the other side. But it looks very nice.

Demon I Am
05-23-2016, 12:44 PM
It just sits/wedges in place. It's not big or heavy, so the coupler clamp is enough. The cooler air flows from around the passenger headlight, and up from the bumper "well". I'm sure there would be a way to guide fresh air, but I am not sure that it is needed. The longer intake tube (Stock) provides less intake noise (resonance) and supposedly spreads the power across the band more evenly. There are many who say a shorter intake like this one could actually rob high-end power. This obviously comes with the trade of higher intake temps, due to the proximity of the radiator, and the location of the filter (beside/above the ex mani.

But I'm not a scientist. Neither am I trying to eke every last drop of power out of my car. I like the design, and it isn't damaging to the car, so that's my justification. Also, that I got it in a trade is also a bonus!

Also, look how barren the driver's side is, by comparison. It's pretty odd.

It looks great Tony! Wish my engine bay was so clean. For reasons, all Greek NB2s have the aircon drier on the passenger side of the engine bay, right where your intake lies right now, extremely irritating.

I was away for the weekend, and do not have a closed garage, so today I woke up to this:

Replaced the RUCAs, all control arm bushings, and new alignment bolts - and a fresh alignment. Car feels so......."not old." Ha! The only things left to make it "feel right" is a new clutch (this thing is slipping on OEM power - can't even chirp off the line).

The good news is that the body shop painted/installed the hood, and says it looks killer. The car *should* be ready to go today.

The bad news is that the hood's catch is missing, and they will not release the car to me, until it can be properly secured. Also, the replacement headlight housing showed up damaged, so they are waiting on another one.

Hopefully the seller has the latch laying around and can ship it to me quickly. otherwise, and I'd really hate to do this, I might be installing a set of aerocatches.

the OEM catch will not transfer over, unfortunately.

EDIT: Seller removed the latch whilst cleaning up the hood, should be packaged and shipped out tomorrow.

Thanks, I'm rather in love with it, so far. It's amazing how the heat rolls out of those vents when the car is stopped.

I need to decide on whether I want clear or orange side winkers, then get them, so that I can have a front-end throwdown. Fender braces, winkers, and headlight refreshing. Not sure what else I should do whilst the fenders and bumper are off. Maybe a louder horn would be nice. Any suggestions?

Demon I Am
08-11-2016, 10:49 AM
They're just sitting in a box. I've been hesitant to do them, since pulling the fenders, means pulling the side skirts, which seems like a PITA. I'm thinking about a set of retromodern's side winkers, but I'm not quite sure they'd look right. Maybe too retro.

Airbrush1
08-11-2016, 05:44 PM
I too am afraid to pull the fenders to install the braces (which is ridiculous since I'm a body guy by trade) I just don't want to mess with it in all honesty. I've really considered adding winkers as well.

My car has been sitting for a month now, just haven't had the time to drive it and it's stupid hot. I'm hoping that getting the hardtop finished up in a few weeks will renew my interest in the car.

I cracked the upper seal of my radiator[emoji846] I know what you're all thinking, shoulda been watching the gauges but everything was fine, it didn't spike, I'd barely hit revlimiter and I had the heater on full blast. It was the stock radiator so it was just time to go I guess https://vimeo.com/190048494 (still waiting for my teammate to send the video focusing on me doing a burnout while waiting for the truck to finish)
That was last night so I'll take care of that as soon as the new all alum. One comes in.
Other than that I finally found the right weight oil to quiet lifter tick,
Did my own alignment and got everything to cross match,
But beyond that I've just been racking up miles, and having fun doing it.

Picked this up locally today! Can't decide if I want to do a brushed finish to match the rest of my interior, or keep the center polished?

You know you will catch a glint of sunlight, going thru a turn, off it and your OCD will kick in.

Brushed!

OK, gang. I think I'm about to get elbows deep in work again. Clutch is making 2 noises, and they have progressively gotten worse. I loud, groaning noise when the clutch is pushed more than halfway in.
The new noise is a rotational, chattery noise that happens when the clutch is engaged. Sounds like a bearing of some type to me.

Add that to 115k on the engine, and I think it's time for some serious work.
