I have a 1.6 Roadster, I went to a car lot recently and he is selling a 6 speed 1.8 for a reasonable price is the extra displacement noticeable?

I find it more torquey... IMO

Yes, they are more powerful generally, but it depends.... Some 1.6's are very fast and feel strong and some 1.8's feel weaker. Of course, the reverse is also true. The more modern 1.8's are definitely more powerful.

A 1.6 car has more... character, you could say. I would say a 1.8 is a bit more refined, but not as spirited as a 1.6. It's all down to personal preference, imo.

I prefer the feel of the 1.6 to the 1.8. That said buy the car for the differential. Or combine the best of each together like I did. :p

I find that my 1.6 car feels more quick, but the 1.8 car shows about 13 more whp on a dyno. I prefer the feel of the engine in the older car...

It's weird, but true... I too prefer the mighty 1.6 motor. The 1.6 feels better than the 1.8's, both the NA 1.8 and NB 1.8. The 1.6 just feels more responsive, zippier and eager. It seems more agile and more willing to spin up towards redline.

1.8 with a Torsen rear

AMEN! Preach it brotha!

And if you wan't the ''easy reving nature" of the 1.6, just install a lightweight flywheel when you do it.

I drove my friend's '95 with a 7 pound flywheel and comp clutch. It felt good, but there was something missing. He also had a full RB exhaust from header back with cat delete. Mine just has a 9 pound flywheel, OEM replacement clutch, OBX 4:2:1 header and Magnaflow cat on stock exhaust. Idk, maybe it has to do with the less weight of my '91 as well.

I prefer my 1.8 with torsen, more torquey.:D

There's not much between the engines to me personally. I feel like my 1.8's have had a little bit more torque, but my 1.6's have had a bit more top end. With my 1.8 I found myself shifting before redline at the track to keep the car in the powerband. The 1.6 rev's all the way out.

I'd say the 1.6 feels better but the 1.8 is definitely faster at the track. For anything boost I'd go 1.6.

But forget all that, if one of these cars has a torsen and the other one doesn't, go with the torsen.
