I don't know if I'm alone on this thread but I continue
The Rotrex install will begin shortly, right after my holidays in the south of France.

I have removed the front bumper to have better access to the radiator and for the mounting of the front tow hook and intercooler.

http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/8501/img301m.jpg

I have received some parts:

IL Motorsport 50mm aluminium radiator :
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7497/img310d.jpg

High pressure system with Spal fans:
http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/2678/img308rl.jpg

And here is the new rad in the engine bay : (need some cleaning)
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7751/img314hu.jpg

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/4651/img315m.jpg

I have also installed my Rennenmetal front tow hook that I had for a while.

The new Spal system seems to be very efficient. (with the stopped car, the temperature decreased in 6 degrees celsius (43°F) within 2 minutes. (96°C to 90°C = 205°F to 194°F)

Thank you
I'm sure I will love the boost ! :D

A new part from the US : a Track Dog Racing Heat Shield :

Thanks :)

I have driven the car with the Rotrex. It's super fast :frantic:
Too bad that the SC's belt became a "spaghetti belt" and it has taken the alternator belt with it  :

http://imageshack.us/a/img51/9660/img429ew.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img228/7537/img428dcopie.jpg

I think the belt wasn't tighten enough.
So I have bought a stock of belt  :

Haha geez, well now you have plenty of extras. Any plans to dyno the car now that the supercharger is in?

Yep. I dyno'ed the car when it was stock. When the belt issue is fixed, I will put it on the same dyno to see the difference.

I<3flippyheadlights
11-05-2012, 04:35 PM
YOU HAVE TO DYNO IT!

Looks awesome man. Did you do the tuning yourself?

Arny
11-05-2012, 04:40 PM
The tuning is safe but because the car feels so fast, I think I will keep this tuning for the moment.
My Megasquirt has been built by Reverant and he has made a basemap for my car with my Rx8 injectors.
Can't wait to drive it again ! The car was so fun to drive before the Rotrex, now it's just amazingly fun to drive ! :frantic:

I'm about to rotrex my own car and am currently building a high compression motor to mate with the rotrex!

Keep up the progress! you're not alone in this thread anymore, cant say the same for mine haha... thanks for the comments on mine.

Love your setup man! I wonder if we are having the same belt problem... Mine makes a pretty loud whine when it's warm and I suspect it's getting to much friction from something that's going to eat it up.

Maybe instead of the dayco belt, try a gates, they are supposed to be pretty strong. Mine has held up despite the loud vrrrrrrr noise.

Love that intercooler! Care to explain how the circulation system is setup?

Arny
01-02-2013, 01:28 PM
I have changed the tensioner pulley with a IL Motorsport steel cambelt tensioner pulley. It seems way better than the KW's resin pulley.
I have seen that the belt seems to want to go on the front edge of the big pulley under the tensioner. So I have moved the belt one more rib (in direction of the Rotrex). It seems better. I will see if it works this week.

It is an Air to Water intercooler. There is a radiator in the "mouth" of the Miata and a pump that moves the liquid. Here is a picture of the system :

Ah, I'll have to check that out. I was contemplating machining my own aluminum pulley and roller set to get rid of those brittle feeling resin pieces.

Care to take a pic of how your moved the belt? I'd like to see what you did

Arny
01-02-2013, 01:45 PM
Not my picture but you can see the new pulley on this picture:
Old pulley that I had :
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/3145/sep242011112.jpg

New pulley:
http://forum.miata.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=152773&d=1353502300

Moving the belt:
I have a 75mm pulley on my Rotrex which have 8 ribs so it's easy to move the 4 ribs belt on it. I will take some pictures tomorrow.

I got the impression that belt issues were common with the early Rotrex kits.

Arny
01-19-2013, 05:42 AM
I think it was more my fault. The belt was too loose and the alignment wasn't right. Now it seems way better. :)

Arny
02-05-2013, 07:03 PM
Here is a funny video with some problems that I had. The belt wasn't slipping as I have written in the video but those balks comes from my table in Tunerstudio. I have to check it.

Ew, that slip noise sounds scary!

Looks like the setup is getting its bugs worked out though!

Gotta love that rotrex power buildup!

Also, what bypass do you have? Sounds so cool!

Arny
02-07-2013, 06:31 AM
I have no more problems with the belt tension and alignment.
Now, I juste have to improve the tuning of the basemap with Tunerstudio and Autotune. This is why there are some balks sometimes.

However, it seems to work great. The feeling is very nice with a strong linear acceleration from the low RPM to the higher RPM. It should be a nice setup for the track.
The bypass seems to be made by vf engineering. It is a different bypass than the plastic one provided in the base kit.

227Nm = 168lbft

Before was:

151Nm = 111lbft

I'm very happy of the results with this basemap :)

Awesome man, fantastic build, how's the throttle response with the Rotrex? I'm assuming that it's better than turbo because of instaboost but not quite as good as n/a because there's the extra rotating mass of the supercharger.
