These are only two of the wheels and what my phone could pick up.

Hmm This is quite odd considering Watanabes are usually one of the highest quality wheels on the market. I have a set from 1995 that still look new so its odd to see this coming from such a good brand.

Yea... I’m also confused. I’m running 500 dollar advanti wheels now and they look 1000 times better. Paying almost $2,000 and waiting 3 months and getting this is kind of embarrassing.

Really? All that is normal? Do you know the stamping of RS watanabe by chance?

Gravity cast vs low pressure cast. Watanabe is a boutique manufacturer by scale.

yeah wheels are made the old school way, gonna get casting defects for sure. they are hand finished, unlike a lot of more modern wheel manufacturers.

I recently picked up some Watanabe Rs and they have a very good finish.

My set wasn’t smooth, but I didn’t have any issues with their performance. Mine were magnesium with a dark finish.

If they are sand cast molded, it’s a good finish for that process. If it’s a die cast, some of the imperfections are likely from a hand-poured crucible.

Possibly counterfeit. There are lots around, and some are convincing. This is different from copies. The counterfeits will copy the casting marks. They usually miss the correct markings found on the mounting face, and the silvery inspection sticker that is fitted.

They are real. Got them from Rod @ Tetsuya. And from my understanding there is no inspection sticker that is fitted on any of the RS Wats I’ve seen.
