Hot Wheels Ferrari Racer Series 2007, 2008, 2009
Before I get into these cars, and this particular series a quick summary on what happened somewhat recently that inspired me to finish this collection and make this thread.
For as long as I can remember, fans like myself of the Ferrari models had only one die-cast company to turn to for miniaturized examples of their favorites which was of course; Hot Wheels. However, this changed back in 2015 when Ferrari ended their contract with Hot Wheels, and signed up May Cheong diecast group, they make the Bburago and Maisto die-cast lines. This exclusive worldwide agreement with Bburango / Maisto to make Ferrari models has pretty much made all of the Ferrari's in the Hot Wheels line become much harder to find on the used collector market. It has also caused the prices for Hot Wheels Ferrari in most any scale to soar through the roof!! Mattel (Hot Wheels) had previously issued a statement that its licensing agreement was ending with Ferrari, but the wording didn’t really make it clear what was happening, was it going to get re-newed, or whether or not it was just on certain selected lines, premium, basic, or 1/64 or 1/18 scale, or just everything related to Ferrari.
However now that the realization that Hot Wheels and Ferrari have cut ties for good, and this reality sets in, I decided to "try" to complete one of my favorite series, the "Ferrari Racers" series release back in 2007, 2008, 2009. This was not an easy task since the prices they command are in the Super Treasure Hunt range and some even more expensive than that. Fortunately for me I had been gobbling them up at my local Toys-R-Us store back then so I have quite a few doubles and triples to trade for what I was missing, and there are still ways to find some of these gems overseas if you know where to look.
The Ferrari Racer Series were among my favorites in the Hot Wheels line to use the "co-molded" wheels, which you rarely see even now, and make these extra special. The Co-Mold 6-Spoke Wheels, or CM6, started appearing on mainline cars at the tail end of 2005 once the AcceleRacers series was on its last leg. I remember a lot of folks buying up the AcceleRacers when they appeared on clearance just to gut them for the wheels. Plus there was only few 2006 Hot Wheels mainline cars wore these wheels, such as the Hot Wheels Nissan 350Z. Then in 2007 they appeared on the Ferrari Racers line and who better to use these race inspired wheels than a Ferrari.
Okay enough rambling, below is the list of cars, and I will follow up with photos of my Ferrari racers as well.
