New year, new opportunities to evolve!

I gave mine a much needed 6-step exterior detail over New Year's weekend.

Did some brake system maintenance (grease sliders, general clean up, check pads) as well as tidy up/re-loom a part of the front chassis wiring loom. Need to upload some pics on my build thread.

Did you build the bottom?

Kind of lol......send it out to be freshened up.....had the cylinders honed.....it was still tight so we kept it with std rings and bearings.....arp bolts and BE oil pump.
I had a low compression and bad leak down test. HG was the culprit but because it had 180k+ miles I just decided to do the right thing lol “while you’re there” some would say...
Plus I have a new TVS900 that I will be using to replace the MP62 so I guess tightening things up is a good insurance.

I had a full seam weld done, the side louvres integrated into the body and connected to the engine bay, the fenders pulled, the car painted, new UV and IR-cut windscreen installed, all new rubber/seals/etc around the windows done, new headlights, and a new full-loop carpet installed:

I’ve pretty much just been staring at it in the driveway... I HAVE resolved to get it ready for the miata reunion at road Atlanta though!21500

What's pending to get it ready?

Mine has been doing a lot of driving between home and work lately, but that's all. Gave it a quick wash the other day, only thing I had time for (and it was much needed).

I have to paint the front bumper again due to a bubble that appeared after the shop fixed some chips last time. I also want to do new sway bars, injectors, fuel pump, and tune, and a good detail since it sits outside. Nothing too crazy... I also have to install my fm frame rails and re-Amemiya seat.

Charged up the battery and got the juices flowing. Gave her a quick wash-up and a long test drive. Showed her to a local guy looking for a track toy. It's easy to forget how fun and good-driving of a car it is!

I did notice a very small amount of brake fluid on the garage floor by the passenger caliper, and a couple drops of radiator fluid after the drive. Will need to look into those on my day off

Installed some delrin door bushings. w..t..f.. should have done this years ago. Car feels more supple, and bumps feel like they're taken by the suspension instead of my chassis. Installed them per revlim's method. Couldn't even believe it. It's so subtle and not subtle at the same time...but I'm pretty sure I'll be "used" to it in a few days. The effect on my car is probably larger than others' cars since I have ZERO reinforcement/stiffening done to my car body/chassis.

Also adjusted the idle valve idle. Car...idles so much nicer. The only thing that changed was going back to stock intake...but I didn't change that valve going from stock intake/ecu to mspnp2 to stock ecu with uturnintake - and now stock everything. Either way, I opened up the valve more, and now the car idle's MUCH nicer - doesn't want to die every time I come to a stop.

So I sold a bunch of the aftermarket goodness, and the Miata is probably going to a new owner Thursday. Giving it a last lookover before (temporarily) leaving Miatadom.

Need to get the wheels cleaned up and find a good home.

Local breaker landed another chaste White NB, a ‘00 with 81k on it from Savannah. Very clean, well kept car, center punched on the passenger door.

Unfortunately, someone grabbed the rear bumper before I could reach out to him, but I was able to claim the front bumper/OEM spoiler and trunk lid. Both were better than mine. The bonus was I was able to do a partial trade for my parts as most of his clients are spec racers and my accident-damaged front bumper was still good enough for that.

The new bumper also doesn’t have fog lights, which I preferred anyways. I got them home and installed in short order.

New tags and registration. No issues.

I prefer to remove the old tags from my license plate and then slice a grid pattern into the new one after installing it. I have had a couple tags stolen from my plates over the years, which is aggravating and a hassle. Anyone else do this?

tsingson
02-06-2020, 07:35 PM
I do. But it ends up making it difficult to remove the following year. I don't go more than stacking 2 stickers, if I do it. I have seen some ridiculous ones where it's gotta be like 15 years at least.

kung fu jesus
02-06-2020, 08:19 PM
Lol, I have seen those 1/4” thick tag stacks too.

I usually remove the plate and use a heat gun with a plastic scraper. A little acetone to clean off the old adhesive. Ten minutes?

Can confirm NB2 door latch mechs are a straight forward swap. The cables are easier than straightening the NB1 rods. The electric locks PnP. The interior door handles are different because rods vs cables.

I was thinking of cutting the fenders
The workshop guy told me that it's meant to be over the fenders for extra support and that I shouldn't do it
What's your opinion?

Are you going to have the front as one complete piece or front bumper separate from the fenders? Me personally, I would use the extra support. If it's fiberglass, which I am assuming, I would always be afraid of it cracking somewhere.

I would cut, maybe 1cm or so too large. Then fold the lip inwards, and add a stip of metal at the end. This would create a "step" on the fender for the bumper to sit against, while having a nice, OEM-looking gap, but it is quite a bit of work.

kung fu jesus
02-28-2020, 09:57 AM
I don't think you can get it flush without bonding it, the composite will be too thin and constantly crack.

I remember Woolery lap joined his PC nose onto his NA.

Can we get a closeup of how it sits without modification?

I got lucky this week and the owner of my first turbo miata (three owners removed now, they always find me) contacted me to ask about the corksport exhaust for the msm since he happened to come into possession of one... I snagged it before he could advertise it for sale! Should ship Monday, hopefully it gets me on the ball again as far as playing with the car!
