Retro Electric Window Switches (http://revlimiter.net/store/switches.php)

Plug-and-play power window control for all NA Miatas (90-97).
Based on a stock power window switch. It bolts on and plugs in like the stock piece.
Brushed aluminum switch plate, stainless steel guard hoops, and chrome dipped switches.
High current industrial switches can handle a lot more juice than the weak stock switches can.
Price: $150 + $50 refundable core charge + shipping. ($215 total in the US)
Core charge is refunded when I receive your stock switch in the mail.

THESE ARE NOW IN STOCK!

I've got a batch of 7 that will be finished and ready to ship next week (3/26-3/30). 3 of them are already sold, leaving 4. MR gets first dibs. When I actually have all 7 built, I'll post them for sale for the rest of the intart00bz.

My order form is here. (http://revlimiter.net/blog/order/)

Any chance you give military discounts rev?

revlimiter

Sorry, no. These are just about the only thing I can't discount. After parts costs, I make about $10 per hour building these. It is my very lowest profit margin item in my store.

Also, I'll only be making one or two more batches of these this year. So get them while you can. :)

I'll get a set of these soon too for the other Miata, but need to get that "other" item back from you first.

Problem is that half the things on my car are for that same exact reason.

Half my garage is hard to walk through for the same reason.

Still, I'd love to get one of these and I don't even have an NA.

Glad I ordered them right away then!

One of the reasons my second miata had to have power windows was so that I could get these :)

^ YES!!!

This weekend, I plan to play with some silcon in hopes of making a mold of that black plastic piece. If I can get a good one, I can pour castings and never have to hack apart stock window switches ever again. That should mean a more steady supply of the Retro ones.

Martin
10-26-2012, 11:10 AM
Would that mean the buyer will have to splice wires?

revlimiter
10-26-2012, 01:15 PM
Nah. They sell the connector that Mazda used. It means I'd have to get my non-insulated crimping up to speed.

I chose the black for that very reason (though my wife noticed right away :teehee:) This might be one of my favorite mods so far. I can't tell you how frustrated I was with the factory window switch. It works, it doesn't work. It works sometimes. I removed it and cleaned the contacts 5 or 6 times a summer, and still would get lack luster performance. BUT THESE SWITCHES... WOW! Up/down, like magic!

I am curious to know if these switches made the windows faster if the switch was the problem.

The factory switch is a bad design. With copper contacts that need constant service, as they tend to build up with carbon soot, and thus weaken the electrical connection (slower windows). This is not to say that the windows don't also need a little love, with proper alignment and lubrication.

How could I find these same switches but just the mechanical part? I am going to be relocating my power window switches from the center console in the near future and want to use this style :)

Thanks. I am in the process of sourcing all the parts I need for a power window conversion. I found an oem switch for cheap but I plan on buying rev's switches at a later time when I have ample funding. Just curious.

Needs more nb

You have no idea how close it is, and yet how far away. NB switches just need a connector which doesn't exist. The rest is done.

I'll cut my oem just give it to me

revlimiter
05-21-2014, 09:58 AM
^ HA! Yeah, I'm almost at that point too. I might do a batch of NB ones with an adapter harness based on the NA plug. You'd have to cut your harness and splice in, but it would at least be removable and allow you to still use the factory one if you wanted.

And now for the ol' multiquote...

Awesome work Adam! The fit an finish are top notch, and being a heavy duty switch, the windows work EVERY TIME now!

Thanks for the pic Jim!!! Enjoy the switch. I've never grown tired of mine. It still makes me smile to toggle the windows up and down.

I am curious to know if these switches made the windows faster if the switch was the problem.

If you have a weak OEM switch, the Retro one I make will indeed make the windows faster. They can flow MUCH more juice than the stock ones can and have no poor connection that can spark over.

I've got a blog post on how to build these for yourself and some of the materials. I'll dig through and find it tonight. In the meantime revlimiter.net/blog would help.

Adam, just get with Project-G and Planet Miata for the OEM plug, just vulture the part you need from that, maybe if you buy some in bulk they will cut you a break on the price, and you can always bump up the price to reflect the higher production costs

Unfortunately the plug needed is molded into the NB switch housing, so it's not that simple.

revlimiter
05-21-2014, 12:47 PM
I can type literally a novella on the topic of the plug. I'll try to limit myself a bit.

The receiving end of the NB window switch plug does not exist. As Eric said, it's molded into the NB switch itself. That is the only way it comes. The company that makes it only produces the harness end as a separate discreet plug. The receiving end is always attached to the switching device. A mold has never been made.

Additionally, the one that's on the NB switch won't work. It's what's known as a sealed connector. The little copper prongs are molded into the plastic connector itself. They are too brittle to cut off and re-use. I know this because of how many I've broken. A connector with snap-in terminals needs to be used.

I've spent around 6 months researching this and contacting various manufacturers. My best hope is currently with a friend who sources this kind of thing from a large vehicle manufacturing company. I don't mind paying a few grand and having a special run of these connectors made. It's just a question of IF they can be made.

Waiting on some splice connectors... I shoulda ordered those weeks ago, but just realized I needed them now.

I need to work the plug a bit too and then I can make molds.
