ever since October, I decided to forget stressing about wearing down the NB and picked myself up a beater...

i found a 98 EX civic 4dr for 2 grand that had done 205k. the exterior was beat up and it didnt have wheels, but being that it was owned by a smog tech... everything was mechanically sound with a heart of gold testing at 193/195/192/194psi.

i added wheels just to get around and realized.... EVERYTHING IS SOOO FUCKING CHEAP for Hondas... before MRLS was officially announced, i decided that I wanted to do a cheap beater build to keep things as cost efficient as possible. EBAY will be my friend for this build because IDGAF.

now that MRLS was over, things started crankin.

F1 spec flywheel + clutch combo = $160
Labor = $200
*the only real problem was that the main seal was leaking but who would do all that work and put the old clutch back in.

Windoweld polyurethane mounts = $15

OEM mounts were completely shot so I filled them with polyurethane, let sit for a few days and rocked out... some nice vibrations inside the cabin but actually way less than I expected... very well worth it.

now the only department where I felt that I NEED to invest a little more was in terms of suspension. I really wanted to just get Racelands, I really did... but I decided to go with a functional fixed setup than that Piece of crap... One of the main things I need to focus on is to make this car capable of rough terrain. The NB became too much of a smooth surface car making it too low and stressful on rough canyon roads especially GMR and East/West Road (socal reference)

TEIN S.Tech lowering springs = $X20

I didnt even think twice, I rolled down and picked myself up some more green stuff =]

Skunk2 sport shocks : $280

though these were 40 bux more than the originally planned Koni Oranges, I opted for these for several reasons.

1. The valving was slightly stiffer than the Koni's making it better suitable for lowering springs
2. They are short stroke shocks.

The benefit of shorter dampers is that there is more suspension travel when the car is lowered. S.techs will put me about 2 inches lower meaning that my standard length shocks would be 2 inches closer to bottoming out. plus, I will have less if any spring droop at full rebound and it will make the car lower =D

im still waiting on my control arms and my work + finals season is taking up most of my schedule so installation will wait a few weeks, but I also picked up these.

15x8 +25 offset = $500

These will also serve as my drift set for the NB so they will be wrapped with some ziexs or something like that. But since I was a young, I have always dreamed of a white or black car with gold/bronze wheels... now I get my chance =D

and u think i was going to stick with stock offsets? F*ck that shit.

I bought a Civic HX new back in 98 as my daily. Always ran synthetic with 5-6k oil changes, putting around 2,400 a month on the car. Bounced it off the limiter daily and generally fogged it. It did it's first auto-x with paper plates.

I sold it in 06 to my BNL with 215,000. Compression numbers all perfect. He still drives it 120 miles a day for work. Great cars.

Only down side was all the negative crap the comes from other civic drivers.

wheels fitted. Fenders rolled, inner and outer tie rods, upper control arms and alignment...

$95... *ebay parts*

Inner tie rods were too long so I took a grinder to them and called it a day.

Outer tie rods weren't greased which could be the main reason why they fail so soon... so I drilled and tapped zirc grease fittings for easy maintenance. ;)

The camber bolt washers were super thin so I replaced them with thicker, better ones.

Aside from the rack and pinion ratio, it can corner really damn well now and rides f*ing smooth

I used to have a jeep with a lowrance off road GPS and a nice pioneer double din navi in it. The jeep had no door locks.

I used to use a smith & wesson sticker on the driver side window and a copy of guns & shooter on the dash as my "deterrent."
