We all love giving our roadsters more "bark". Show us what you have hiding under the car!
Let's keep this nice and as "cataloged" as possible. Post who makes it, any pertinent info on the system, and maybe after some pictures a brief synopsis of the exhaust.
Corksport "Drift" cat back. 2.5" (v1. Single piece.)
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m582/na6c93roadster/DSC_0596-1.jpg

The Corksport is a reasonably priced exhaust with nice construction. The single piece gen 1 needs some slight tweaking to fit just right and avoid rubbing the axel stubs. (easily modded with hose clamps to push and pull piping around as needed) It's very loud and sounds excellent when new. Combined with a cat delete it's quite violent and untasteful. **Does not seem to hold up well to frequent track use. Muffler/resonated appear to be blowing out guts**
On a naturally aspirated Miata the 2.5" piping may sacrifice some low end grunt but really opens the top end pull especially on the 1.6. I'll give it a B- as it's canister looks and obnoxious sound volumes may not please everyone.
Thought it would be nice to have a sound / video-thread for exhausts :)

3" Megan catback exhaust, the reason i didnt go header back was because i figured itd be pointless, since ill be using a turbo manifold soon.
I had an exhaust shop custom bend some piping, and i just bought the muffler itself from my guy with Megan Racing wholesale. It's the "Turbo-II" model, theyre top end muffler.
NO RASP!
Oh, and its extremely loud.

Literally sounds like ass. Nearly every exhaust I've ever heard with a silencer in place sounds really muffled and desperate for breath.

You don't want to drive my car without the Corksport silencer. The few times I did, I was literally in searing pain. Louder than anything I've ever heard. If you have a full interior and a catalytic converter in place or a turbo, then go ahead and run without silencer. Otherwise, you'll be sorry. Wear earplugs. I have my silencer in at all times and it's STILL painful.

Nah you get used to it. Here's my 5 yr old Corksport with a blown canister/resonator and an Enthuza cat delete. It's loud for street use I guess but fine with a helmet on.

Correct. They didn't even have the silencer available when I got my exhaust. Hell it wasn't even a finished product when I picked it up. Great price though and I still like it.

idk if i'm in the right thread here, but does anyone have experience with OBX headers? I hear they are prone to cracking
^^Whoa, is that so? Wrong thread likely since this is on aftermarket exhaust :)
I do have a brand new OBX header sitting around till I find time to install it. Replacing my Maxim Works one while I try to re-condition the terrible surface.
Back to topic, I am running a Larini exhaust and it is marvelous. Not too loud nor too bassy and it gurgles and crackles when pushed, lovely!

I'm not sure,Rod (Tetsuya Garage)told me it was a Corn*s on the "other "forum a wee while ago when i first posted photo's of it.
In all honesty i'm not exactly sure,But Rod seemed to be fairly sure about it.Our guys from work who gets our Mazda parts from Japan got it for me,There is No branding on it,
It's all one piece and butt welded on the curves, and complete with cat converter.in any case someone in Japan spent some money getting it done,The engine the exhaust came from was fairly well worked over as well,Toda cams,Toda flywheel,High comp and Freedom ECU.
If any here on the forum knows better ,please feel free to correct

I recently bought a cat-back system from someone on my local MX-5 forum, but its rather interesting..
It has the Racing Beat logo on the muffler and tip, but stamped on the pipe it has RS*R with some numbers. The seller did some digging and found out that RS*R used to make the early Racing Beat systems, but the production cost was too high so Racing Beat started their own production. This particular system is really solid, looks almost hand made..
I haven't got around to installing it yet as I want to get a set of headers as well, but here are some pics.

I could be getting a lot more drone than others because my car is gutted, But you definitely cant have a conversation in my car at 80mph. Thats ~4k rpm's, which is really loud in my car.
I don't have any carpet in my car either, but it's still not too bad. I'm around the same RPM too... maybe it's cuz of the midpipe I have

Took my NB to the muffler shop and did a muffler delete.
Now running a straight pipe axleback with resonator as seen in the photo.
Custom straight resonator pipe axleback with pea shooter tip for a discreet stock appearance. Exhaust note is deep and throaty throughout the RPM range with zero to no burble, pops, flame shootage. Cabin noise is slightly louder than stock (bear in mind I have deleted my soft top and carpeting). Highway drone is very minimal, just enough to know its there but not overbearing. I can hold a conversa
tion with my passenger sufficiently...actually the wind noise is louder than the exhaust note. Weight savings, a bunch. (Didn't weigh the OEM backbox but its noticeable, the car's acceleration/braking/cornering abilities have been improved exponentially). Overall I am more than satisfied, free flowing exhaust set up but not at the compromise of excessive/obnoxious noise decibels. I would say this set up is maybe 6-10 decibels louder than stock.

I've mostly heard them referred to as ITBs. Individual Throttle Bodies. Makes it easier when explaining them to the side-draft carburetor generation.

I'm getting it rolled/pulled either this evening or tomorrow. I'm also in desperate need of an alignment (gets super squirrely on the highway) but I'm still waiting on my Xidas to come in.. and getting it done now would be an utter waste.

I'm the only roadster owner I know of, in the states, with this exhaust. I didn't know what it would sound like, but took a leap and bought it anyway based on information about it on 5zigen's website.
Impressions: It is just as quiet as stock at idle, except with the addition of much more bass. No rasp whatsoever. Minimal highway drone. It really growls and booms when you get on it, without becoming too much of an annoyance. Which is exactly what I wanted. It's an awesome exhaust.
This may be the first place someone has documented their opinion on this exhaust, so hopefully this helps the next 5zigen customer.

Here is my custom set up, I have a magnaflow resonator right after the cat, custom bent pipe, to an n1 canister style obx muffler. Pretty simple, but sounds great, and flows even better. It definitely pulls harder throughout the power band. Next step is header and high flow cat, then probably another resonator, because its already extremely loud. Absolutely zero rasp though, just a super deep booming sound.

It hits on the axle at times, I had to remove the ladder brace, and it hits on one of the areas where one of the ladder brace bolts go into....I need to fix that because the occasional rattles annoy the hell out of me!

http://i.imgur.com/ayT5LjG.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/GmJHfOb.jpg
The size is not too much bigger from STD
http://i.imgur.com/uqmNKpn.jpg
Also put in a magnaflow bolt on high flow cat with it. The mid pipe is a custom job (2 inch, no resonator).
whole system is 50mm/2inch all the way from headers to muffler, with a 70mm/2.75inch exit.
these were the first gen of parts avail for na6ce by mazdaspeed, and by design they are all black. The exhaust itself is made by Yumex (which make the std oem muffler on na6) so I expected it to be a very mild upgrade.
Performance is good, and the sound is very close to stock except with a little more bass. Idle is silent, on cruising speeds its identical to oem but significantly louder at wot. The rasp is still there but there is more bass during decel and mid rpm accel. Low end is lacking (prob due to the 4-1 header design), mid range felt almost the same but top end 5k+ was noticeably better!
(I have since put in a drop in corn*s ecu and low & mid range is back)
The rev matching on downshifts... mmmm gotta love dat sound

Hi guys, I just picked up a new exhaust header, muffler and heat shield for my car for about 220nzd all up but I'm unsure of the muffler and heat shield manufactures, can anyone shed some light? It looks like a Car Make Corn*s Ver. I muffler but the flanges vary slightly from others I have seen, could it be just a small variation done in the CMC workshop? As for the heat shield I have had Revlimiter Adam mentioning he has seen an aftermarket item very similar to this but a lot of others think it could be a home made one based on the look.

Ah thanks Jimmy Vee! Looks identical to mine. I now just need to confirm the manufacture of the muffler, hehe. The only thing that makes mine different from every other CMC*s single piece muffler is the fact that one of the flanges are in a different location.

If the exhaust you got is exactly like the one you see in the photo, a v-clamp won't work. V-clamps require flared pipe ends, and the ones in the photo are not. You'd need a sleeve clamp in this case.

I'm not sure why yours is cut like that - Car Make Corns may use a different clamp than a sleeve... If you straighten the fins, does one end fit into the other? If it does, then a sleeve clamp should still work.

Perfect! Glad I could help. I was helping a friend with an exhaust install on a Golf TDI a few weeks ago, and it had both v-bands and sleeves. I don't understand why a simple donut flange is so difficult to incorporate into a (relatively) mass-produced exhaust, but v-band and sleeve clamps may be less susceptible to leaks - idk.

Nice! Did you make your own heat shield?

No, it's the Jass Performance Heat Shield, purchased from either TopMiata or CarbonMiata (can't remember which right now..) I had a rattle which I thought came from the heatshield, so I decided to change that as well since I already was working under the car. :)

It's been a minute since anyone has posted here; however, I just installed the RS4 catback, FM cat, and Raceland header. Here's a vid on it after letting the car come to temp for ~20 minutes.

Here's another one showing off how it looks from the underside:

Why not buy from JassPerformance themselves. They ship to the States :D

Anyone have a sound clip of the Corn's Ver. II 60mm?
I find a lot of random youtube videos, no specifics as to diameter.

I might be picking up Racing Beat Manifold at some point (unless I take the plunge on either a pitcrew or maxim header) to go along with my magnaflow 200cpsi sports cat; now then catback wise I'm torn on the following exhausts just wondering if anyone could shed some light, I don't really want anything that will drone too much or be "anti social":
- Car Make Corns v2 (w/ 70mm tip)
- BRAVE (60 or 90mm tip)
- RS Factory Stage Type S (esentially their N zero 2 but with a larger silencer)
- Fujitsubo Legalis R

Don't understand why the Miata Hobby as a whole does not use JetHot Coatings? I've been using their coating (or one like it) since the early 1980's and have had outstanding results in heat reduction. I'm going to use it extensively in my build to lower heat (if I live long enough to come up with all the money needed for the build). The other product I have not seen the community embrace is CenterForce clutches. Their clutch & pressure plate is outstanding in that the pedal feel is easy, but the lock up is off the charts!!! Again, I've been using them from the mid 1980's on and they are second to none!
