alright so i want/need to get a roll bar BUT until i get the ebay soft top that has proven results, i want the roll bar in the meantime..

heres my dilemma..

my top only goes that far "down" because the PO installed this "aftermarket" top that wasnt so compatiable..

my question is..am i going to be able to install a roll bar with the top back like the picture above? also, what roll bar will fit with the top now and the ebay ones? the current top has a glass window but its not an OEM one so thats why i ask..

It's misinstalled, most likely. I'm going to guess the rearward bow isn't sliding forward towards the the bow in front of it. It might be helpful to have another Miata next to it to compare how the bows articulate and the fabric folds. On some tops, you need to help the rear bow by sliding the top of it forward with your hand as the forward section comes back.

With a glass window, you need an NB rollbar without the rearward horizontal.

See it here (NA bar):

NB rollbars fit the NA with no issues. I have an NB bar in my NA.

I have a question...you say the current top you have has a glass window. Do you zip it out before trying to drop the top? If you do, it should go all the way down. Plus, can you provide a better picture in the daytime?

A lot of times with nonzip out glass windows you have to caress the top of the window to get the top to fold down.

Reach inside as you go to lower the top, you will feel a bar that's part of the soft top frame just in front of the glass window. Pull it forward as you lower the top and the glass window should just drop down and you can put the top all the way down.

it wont go all the way down..the top material that's attached to the body nearest to the trunk is fully stretched out by the time it gets to the pictured above position :(

You have to move the bow before you fold it.

You have to move the bow before you fold it.

I'm with KFJ on this one. The install might have been done wrong. It would help to get another Miata owner to show you how the top should work. Chances are the bow is not staying in line when you try to close the top, and is binding the rest of the top mechanism. I would reinstall the current top (provided there are no holes, and it's in good condition).

okay i figured out what you guys were talking about but the window simply is in the way and wont fold down..i tried moving the bow and it still wont go..it does have a little rip that was sealed but im not really a fan of the tan top so im just going to buy a new black one..
