Well, there's not a whole lot to tell. My friend in Ohio owned this car for ~10 years.

Looked like this when he bought it:

4058

He decided that color didn't really suit the car so he had it painted silverstone, the car's original color. He also installed the 93LE interior, Nakamae center console, painted the tombstone and gauge hood silver.

Engine is stock w/painted valve cover:

4060

Here are a couple shots of the car shortly after I got it home last Fall:

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh514/MartVerd/Italia/IMG_1547.jpg

I'm in the middle of installing a new soft top. Not quite finished:

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh514/MartVerd/Italia/IMG_3365.jpg

So far I've done a new timing belt, valve cover gasket and water pump. Oh, and driven it a few thousand miles - that's my favorite part of owning this car :)

Great looking car, one has just been completed in the Uk with a Mazda V6 engine... stunning piece of kit! I 100% agree about the change in colour, the silver suits it a lot more

I got to fondle this car when Dwight drove it down RT66 many years ago. Pretty sure it was still blue back then. Awesome to see it on the forums again. :)

ctrench, I have that pic of your car backed under a huge red 4x4 as the wallpaper on one of my monitors

I've seen pics of the V6 Italia in the UK. I wish mine looked that good. And its interior - OMG! Mine has some issues with the front fenders and hood (that's bonnet to you) not fitting as nicely as I would like.

So I wonder which version of revlimiter gauge faces would look good in my car... Hmmm... Funny thing - you sell that special center face to get the headlight motor and air bag lights back. My IL motorsport gauge retained those functions but my car has neither airbags nor headlight motors

Martin

Oh, and I still don't have my top back on the car. It's assembled I just didn't have time last night to put it on the car :( I should be able to get that done on Wednesday.

Couple of new pics that show OEM pieces I want to replace. Try to forgive my lack of photography skills :(

Stock gauge faces:

Oof, my baldness is showing. I removed the IL Motorsort gauge faces that came on the car because I don't like white faces and at night they really sucked.

Stock heater controls:

I could help you with those problems. :D

Also, that new-old top really does look great. I miss the beauty of a vinyl top. The cloth one on Bucky is nice and looks quite plush, but it doesn't have that sheen of a freshly dressed vinyl top.

The silver is much more becoming of the italia. And the red interior is beautiful. Do you happen to have any more images showing the instrument cluster?

Martin

I only have this one from when I still had the white gauge faces. The cluster isn't very visible, though.

I was just trying to make up my mind on the brushed KG Works cluster, especially with the black faces. The first one you posted of it shows it pretty well, and I do like the black faces better against the brushed panel.

Oh and those red interiors are to die for, looks awesome!

Martin
11-07-2012, 11:58 AM
I'm a big fan of the KG Works piece - brushed or black. I think the brushed "pops" more than the black if that's what you are after.

Thanks! I like the red a lot, too. Red mats would add even more awesomeness (ahem, Anthony).

Lets see those new gauges. I think the "warbird" set would be nice on your beauty. Than again “Stirling” would round out that old school look. However there always "Rossa" and "GT40" and...Just get one of each.

All kidding aside I’m sure you choose wisely. Can’t go wrong with Rev. Looking fwd to getting my own set. Now lets see those pix.

Ha! you can see me squatting down to get the pic of the new mirror :)

Today I ditched the aftermarket stereo and made a blanking plate:

Good eye. It says ITALIA in letters from a Nissan Altima. I don't really car for it, the letters look too modern to me. I hope to get car repainted some time in the not-too-distant future (quite a few rock chips and some scratches) and I will not put them back on.

Probably would be super easy to darken them a bit, as opposed to changing from black to red. You could make the drive down to Miatapalooza and we could exchange there. Lol.

injoy blanking plate installed :)

Sorry about the blurry pics. I blame my iphone.

First this bracket gets attached to the back:

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh514/MartVerd/blanking%20plate/07D9C324-A86A-4423-8153-F265AB86A86D-5535-000007F262FDFA9F_zps119fac2e.jpg (http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/MartVerd/media/blanking%20plate/07D9C324-A86A-4423-8153-F265AB86A86D-5535-000007F262FDFA9F_zps119fac2e.jpg.html)

Here are the spacers so the plates sits flush with the front of the tombstone:

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh514/MartVerd/blanking%20plate/1C6A7544-AF62-4384-91FD-69279A4E0476-5535-000007F269D20FB4_zps549a44fd.jpg (http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/MartVerd/media/blanking%20plate/1C6A7544-AF62-4384-91FD-69279A4E0476-5535-000007F269D20FB4_zps549a44fd.jpg.html)

Flip the tombstone over and set the spacers over the threaded holes in the bracket:

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh514/MartVerd/blanking%20plate/D8DDAE5B-66CA-4919-B23D-45743E6998DB-5535-000007F2719FAC15_zps86d8dd5d.jpg (http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/MartVerd/media/blanking%20plate/D8DDAE5B-66CA-4919-B23D-45743E6998DB-5535-000007F2719FAC15_zps86d8dd5d.jpg.html)

Set the plate on the spacers:

http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh514/MartVerd/blanking%20plate/5A8791FC-9EDF-47EF-A3C5-6E9B54B4E0B9-5535-000007F2795B3FAA_zpse4a806cc.jpg (http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/MartVerd/media/blanking%20plate/5A8791FC-9EDF-47EF-A3C5-6E9B54B4E0B9-5535-000007F2795B3FAA_zpse4a806cc.jpg.html)

Attach with allen head screws:

However the covers are now molded and permanently attached the the seats thanks to an upholstery shop. :)

Great product RoadsterTech! Thank you, Rick!

You are welcome. I'm glad it went in well.
Now that you have the plate, If you were to do this over would you go with the patterned finish or go with the Matte finish?
Is there anything we can do to make the product better?
On a side note, do you mind if I use your picture in my website?

Martin
11-04-2013, 12:28 PM
Based on the pictures I'd agree with you that the matte finish matches to tombstone more closely. But this finish looks really good in direct sunlight. It kind of sparkles :) I prefer the patterned finish.

Yes, you may use any picture you like.

We only did the driver's seat so far. 3 young boys around the house keep me very busy.

On a side note, Jason, my 11-year-old, made two 3-point shots and scored the winning baskets (2 free throws) for his basketball team Saturday morning. We went to the Bentonville HS game Friday evening and I think he was inspired by Malik Monk's last second 3-pointer.

The seller is exotikleather on ebay, talked about in the first post here:

http://mazdaroadster.net/showthread.php?8199-1993-Miata-LE-seat-cover-replacement-sources

Normal price is $325 for leather. I received a discount because they didn't have a pattern for 2001-2005 seats. I had to send them my original upholstery :)

Looks pretty darn good. The color matches well with the OEM red. The wrinkles are in the right places so it is okay. Say how would you rate the softness of the leather and how thick is it. They sent me a swatch of red but looks very light. Yours looks just perfect. What type of red did you order?

Martin
02-14-2014, 09:37 AM
Thanks all! I should have closed the driver's side door so you could see how closely they match the door panel.

The paperwork that came with the leather just says maroon. What I did when I ordered them is send them the picture from the ebay ad and say "I want this color" :)

The wrinkles don't bother me at all. I'm just glad I had free child labor

For sure the more usage it would get those wrinkles will look normal they are in the right spots it actually makes the leather look soft plus with exposure to heat it may tighten up a bit. More pics with one door close under sunlight please?

I have called these guys twice and left a message and they don't return a phone call.

Oops, forgot to answer the softness question. I'd say it's pretty soft, softer than the OEM leather, but I don't think it's as thick as OEM. I hope it lasts!

I only contacted them thru messages on ebay. They always got back to me but it seems not everyone is so lucky. I've read of others not getting a response. They seem very hit-or-miss in that area.

Right even my email was not responded to but they sent me a couple of swatches of red. For the right price if they last as long as the OEM then you win. Nothing a regular use of a good leather conditioner can't handle. Really with red interior color match is top most. Their stitching is very good. Those seats tie-up very well with the OEM red interior IMO that is mission accomplish.

You can never go wrong with a Nardi Classico but most Momo wheels FEEL so much better when driving, very nice choice in the Competition! :drinkto: Size? I went from a 360mm wood Classico to a 320mm Momo Corse and the Momo feels so much better when driving. It is amazing how much of a difference in ergonomics a good steering wheel can make.

Btw, FANTASTIC looking Italia! The only way it could get better than an Italia with a LE interior is if you add boost or a motor swap....v8....drool. :fp:

Cool car as ever. It looks super clean. Colour and interior is spot on and if I had the time and money a build I'd consider.

Ive got a few different wheels including a momo but am a Nardi fan. I've a 330mm Classico in the corns and a deep corns in the tuckin99 which work if you want a smaller wheel. I've the anniversary Nardi in the pitcrew which is larger but I just love the look of it.

A prototipo momo would work with your car too.

It's 350mm. I was worried it would look too "race car." I do think the Classico looks better in there, but I'm happy with the Competition and it feels great. I agree a Prototipo would be amazing.

Forced induction or V8 would be awesome. I had an FM turbo in my first Miata. Right now the reliability of a stock drivetrain makes sense for me.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys.

You can dye it, but test it on a spot under the seat first. It might also just be dry. Moisturizing it sometimes darkens it.

Your coolant is at 180?

Martin
01-13-2017, 09:09 AM
I think it's the angle. When I installed the gauge faces I set the needle so it's a little left of the 180 mark when the car was fully warmed up.

Kinda like Adam's picture:

Swapped the cluster panel (if that's the correct name) from my 92 over to this car. I like the flat black panel with chrome rings. I wish it had rings around the small gauges.

This one is going in the 92. This one is textured with no chrome rings. I think this version is from a later NA.
