NB Roadster Coupe, Yes or No.

Eight years ago in Japan, Mazda introduced an anomaly: the NB Roadster "Coupe", a 350-unit variant of the Mazda MX-5 Miata with a reinforced chassis and a fixed roof.

Was Mazda onto something back then, or way off base? Would a fixed-roof option be a welcome change, or would it destroy the magic of the Miata?

Would you buy a Miata in a Fixed Roof version?

It definitely interested me but the whole top down thing is definitely hard to give up.

Even after we all vowed not to buy new cars at the last meet?!?

The question was. . . were they on to something. Clearly with the hype that the FR-S / BR-Z have received. . . they should have gone into production with a coupe! Today, if it were built on the NC chassis, I'd probably say no, but that's just because the NC is hideous.

If they would have offered a mazdaspeed MX-5 coupe with a 5 speed I would currently have one less kidney.

I would say if they did a limited production in the USA, Japan, and UK they could sell them, but you cannot deny they fact that the FRS is going to take that share of the market now.

They were onto something, but that was five years ago. Now they have to focus on what they got and bring the magic of top down back!

I would have much rather have had the coupe.

I don't like convertibles.

i'd love a coupe. less nvh, more stiff, no top to worry about someone cutting into.. etc

this is the smartest thing i've heard this guy say in a while. I also fully 100% agree. FRS looks better and doesnt come with that :fab: stigma.
ninja edit: also more importantly the AFTERMARKET BACKING for an FRS, most likely will surpass the NC1 and 2 in no time..

I would love to have a coupe version of a Miata, if I ever find one, I will defiantly buy one.
