Welcome to my build thread !

I'm a person of a few words so I'm going to keep this intro short.
I've had my 99 NB since 2003 when I was 18 years old. I didn't start modifying it until 2005 when I got my first job. Its been a long road. Probably one of the longest builds on here. I'm slowly getting it to where I want it.

Been cleaning up the square top manifold in the meantime. Not sure if to go with a full mirror polish finish. Or just powder coat it to match the valve cover.

definitely in the running for best NB...I'm diggin the build. either you got a HUGE bonus or you like to hoard parts and put it on all at once. so one week it's just stock, the next week it's DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE!!!!!

but all this dopeness you decide to go Tein Basics?? Wai?

Ha, I already got a quote for black chrome powder coat a few weeks ago !

Got a nice package deal for both the valve cover and intake manifold.

No huge bonus. I wish thou so I can finish my car already. I just have expensive taste but not deep pockets, so everything takes time.

The car is my daily, anything else would of been overkill and rather spend the extra money on other things. Almost got HKS Hipermax II coilovers at one point...

Test fitted the hood and it won't close shut. Its not the hole around the latch hook so I'm going to see if its hitting my strut bar.

it doesn't look like the strut bar is holding it up, seems like the front. what about the ring that the latch catches? i had to file mine down it was so fat.

Hmmm didn't think about that...

I did noticed the hook/ring was shorter than the OEM one....so that would make sense. Thanks for the tip!!!

OMG PUT THOSE WHEELS ON ALREADY. You're giving me the biggest blue balls. But in all seriousness. Youre build is super awesome. Yo have so many parts that I would perform questionable sexual acts for. Mainly the wheels, tails, and ducktail. If you ever get tired of that Morette/AutExe combo, please notify me. I will give you cash in a heartbeat. Props

Managed to get the hood to close.

Made a cut underneath since it was rubbing on the strut bar. I also had to remove my GV CF radiator panel to give it more room to go down. Sucks since that piece costed more than the hood itself.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/garagevaryradiatorpanel.jpg

It still takes alot of force to get it to close since its hitting the GV eye lids on the driver side.

Recently, I powder coated my HVAC rings to a glossy black finish. I wasn't diggin the raw brushed finish in the center console area. It stood out too much for my liking before. Looks way better now I think.

Over the weekend I did the final touches on the hood.

I added a mini mesh grille to the vents. I like it more than the standard mesh size. The mini mesh was painted ultra flat black .

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/38B48D5B-EE17-4D27-A9FA-FB91949C171F-23515-000017FFB896635D.jpg

I also purchased new Mazda washer nozzles with a "fan spray" pattern. A problem well documented with this hood is the holes made for the nozzles are way too big. The easy fix is to get a pair of 8mm fender washers and cut out the notches needed for the nozzles to clip on to the correct size. After that, just place the fender washer underneath the hood and press down ur nozzle from the top and it will clip on like normal.

I finally decided to install my Tein Basis. I was waiting on a friend to lend a hand since I never done anything like this before but we could never agree on a day. I said to myself "how hard could it be?". Well 1.5 days hard, lol. I took my time and of course the fronts gave me a hard time. I went with the removal of the 2 bolts on the lower knuckle method.

How do you like this Tein suspension setup? I still want coilovers again, but not sure if I want the super stiff upper mounts like I had on my Tananbe Coilovers, might just go with NB upper mounts and upgrade to Fat Cat Bumpstops or something later.

I decided to mount my Engine Start button in the power mirror control switch location. The base model NB's that came with manual mirrors came with a blank mirror switch piece. I order this part from Rosenthal Mazda and was told it was the last part available in N. America.

Once the hole was done and the button was installed I really didn't like the grooves seen on each corner.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_93982202x.jpg

So I decided to fill them in with spot putty (bando). I also had to remove material from the edges to make the button sit more flush since the plastic piece isn't completely flat.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_663546@2x_zps92461a4a.jpg

Once sanded smooth filler primer was added to fix any imperfections and then wet sanded to get ready for paint.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_5258035@2x_zps38c104b4.jpg

Mocked up on the dash. Pretty happy with it. Now I want to change the color of the button from red to black. I also want to make a brushed finish on the plastic chrome ring so it can match the rest of my interior.

Great job on the starter button. I agree with changing the shiny chrome to brushed, but why change the red to black? Then it won't be a BRB :(

I just think it will look better in black like in the Toyota/Lexus start buttons. The red won't compliment the rest of my interior well. Looks great in yours with the red LE interior.

Over the weekend I did the brushed finish on the ring. Pretty satisfied. Bye bye chrome.

I wired my S2000 button over the weekend. When it is was time to go under the steering column I noticed my ignition wire harness had already been modified for my car alarm system.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_8144852x.jpg

The IG2 wire (blk/red) was not touched so that was good but the ST wire(white/blk) was spliced into. I end up ignoring the ST wire coming out of the switch and then t-tap into the other end of the ST wire and connect that to the 87 output on the SPDT relay.

Whats awesome is the car still starts with the key this way. So whenever the relay fails I won't get stranded anywhere and can still start the car the old fashion way. Car alarm still works too.

Here's the final mess under the steering column. I ended up bolting the relay to the metal piece on the right side of the picture.

Special thanks to Revlimiter for his step by step S2000 start button install on a NB. It made it pretty easy to understand for someone like me that doesn't usually do alot of wiring stuff.

I also just ordered a cool white LED bulb to replace the original one in the button. Even with the red condom removed, the bulb it still illuminates a lil orange which I didn't like.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I just got the last piece for the S2000 start button project. The small 3mm Instrument cluster LED bulb to replace the stock one.

Here's the difference in lighting. Much better!

Stock vs. Cool White LED

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/stockvsLED.jpg

What sucks about these little bulbs is that they are polarized. If they don't work you have to take them out and rotate them an extra turn. When you loosen them again they wont come out as easy as the original ones since these LED's are longer. I had to disassemble the start button so I can push the bulb out from the inside out. I went 0 for 2 ....on the 3rd time I got smart and made a marking with a sharpie on the bulb twist cap so I know where it was before and.... finally got it to work on the 3rd try.

Started working on my engine under panel over the weekend.

Before I threw away my OEM engine under panel I traced it over a large piece of cardboard. Once I had the over all dimensions I ordered my aluminum sheet to that size. I decide not to extend the panel all the way to the oil pan. I rather buy the studio skid plate which will offer more protection. So this piece will be slightly modified later down the road to work with studio skid plate.

Here I have the cardboard cut and bent and ready to be mounted for a mock up.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_19084462x.jpg

Everything lined up perfect ....

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_66485092x.jpg

Traced the cardboard cutout to the aluminum sheet now.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_13707672x.jpg

As you can see there is minimal cutting required. The 2 bends are going to be the hardest part of this project.

More teasing....

One of my tires had no air... Seems the tire guys forgot to put in air or the air just leaked from the valve cap extender that was loosely tighten. Took a short trip to the gas station and pumped in some air.

The 205/45/16 tire size rose the overall height of the car a bit but I was expecting that.

I trim the fender liners in the front as a precaution. As well as the fender to front bumper mounting tab.

I will need to roll my fenders. The rear looks like its going to rub pretty bad. Might need to get more negative camber there but I hope not.

I must of been super excited to get my wheels on because I end up dropping two lug nuts on the wheels and chipping the finish on the lip :/ Kinda surprise how delicate they are. Oh we'll gotta be more careful.

Finished doing a ghetto fender roll today. Didn't feel like spending money on renting a fender roller so I went with the cut into chunks and hammer method. Turned out decent. No paint cracks thanks to a heat gun but it does warp the edge on the fender if your not careful. My car is covered in dents already so it didn't bother me as much. I'll be doing a respray soon so that will get fix eventually.

Drove the car a bit and had no rubbing issues :D My rear suspension on the other hand sounds a bit harsher than it did before.

Got a very good deal on a set of OEM small side skirts. No longer like the bomex ones. They are too bulky in my opinion and stick out about half an inch from the cars body. Although the OEM ones won't hang down as low to match the front bomex bumper and maybe my Chargespeed rear skirt, I think it will look a lot cleaner. I plan on adding a set of GFuser side splitters to hopefully fix the mismatched body lines at the bottom.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_12991082x.jpg

My plans for 2013....

Takata Drift Harness II in black. With the rollbar relocation of the seatbelt, I'm running it through one of the shoulder harness holes since it can retract better there but it's less comfortable. Rubs close to my neck.

GFuser splitters from Project G to help tie in the rest of my low aero parts.

Replace busted front bumper with another bomex or if I'm lucky a used AutoExe front bumper from Japan. Will keep a close eye on yahoo japan auctions and upgarage.

Buy the JetStream NB aero front fenders. Will probably order this once I get my bonus check at the end of this year :D

Nakamae cluster hood wrapped in black leather or escaine(suede). Been wanting this for a while.

More engine dress up parts... Fancy garage star pulleys? CarbonMiata CF cam cover? Different valve cover powdercoat finish?

Performance wise maybe just a bigger brake kit.

Looking forward to 2013 !!!

Yep, the best looking front bumper for the NB in my opinion.

Earlier this spring I saw one on UpGarage for a NB2 go for $170!!! By the time I talked to a importer guy to look into it , it was gone the next day. Would of costed about $700 in the end to get it to my door but that's still a good price. I wouldn't of cared if my headlights wouldn't fit or left gaps.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/DSCN0413-1_zps16ccf442.jpg

Installation was very easy. I used the stock mounting points for the lap belts and then wrapped the shoulder belts over the Blackbird GT3 rollbar which had a harness bar.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8364/8308766275_6c53ae1503_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/8308766275/)

Question. How tight or loose are you supposed to have your harness? Currently I have it where I can only move about 2-3 inches forward. I'm a skinny guy so that's why it kinda looks there's no room to fit a body inside that harness setup in the above picture, lol.

Other updates include the removal of the airbag warning sign on the visors. It easily scrubs off with a combination of hot water and a dish scrubber. Use alcohol to clean up any paint residue smudges you might get from the scrubbing.

I also removed my rear stock sway bar. I was experiencing too much oversteer with my suspension, wheel/tire, alignment, and RB front sway bar setup. Car feels alot safer to drive now.

My NB small side skits have also been painted and ready to go in the car. I've been super busy with work so I might not be able to put those on anytime soon.

A few weeks ago I was bidding on a pair of rare Garage 502 NB mirrors that popped up on Yahoo Japan Auctions but got outbid fairly quickly. I love the simple design of those mirrors unlike the APR mirrors we always see that require an adapter base. I actually bought a set of SlickAuto APR mirrors the day they first got released and I never thought they matched the car well. I ended up selling them a few months later.

I've always seen Garage Vary cars rock these motorcycle mirrors and since then I've been wanting to do the same on mine.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/4389780E-DF05-4082-8222-72F4CD14E458-3042-000003A34BD100E9_zpsb4c47892.jpg

Murakami Motors sells a set similar to those but with a price tag close to $500. Being on a budget I decided to try my luck on finding a used set of Magical Racing mirrors from a motorcycle forum. Sure, enough my patience paid off and I found a decent set for a decent price.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_32241022x_zps19e7e0b2.jpg

They had type 1 mirrors with type A bases with an elbow and a 45mm stem....everything I needed.

Next came the SlickAuto Miata bases. You can purchase just the Miata APR mirror adapter kit separately without the mirrors for $90.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_34819252x_zps93271292.jpg

SlickAuto mirrors bases comes with two smaller holes for the mounting of the APR mirror base. I decided to use the threaded hole closest to the driver to mount the Magical racing mirror. The same way the Garage 502 mirrors are off center so they can be clearly seen and not blocked by the triangle pillar on the window.

You can use the magical racing mirror base and mount it on the SlickAuto miata bases but I really hate the way they look stacked on top of each other. I wanted a cleaner look so I went the extra mile.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_49909602x_zpsb1cf2532.jpg

10 mm hole is needed for the Magical Racing stems. The underside of that same hole needs a countersunk hole. 1/2" countersink drill bit took care of that.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_9867862x_zpsdb06c04c.jpg

For the extra small threaded hole I purchased 3.5 mm stereo jack silicone plugs to cover the hole. It's a bit loose so glue will be needed to stay put.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_8329402x_zpsc348d81b.jpg

Assembled and ready to be mounted.

Test fit and mirror adjustments before tightening it all down. Right now I'm using the hardware SlickAuto provides in their kit but I plan on replacing those two stainless bolts with black aluminum anodized ones.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/Camera%20Awesome%20Photos/preview_image_1_95447762x_zpsad695f2c.jpg

A few weeks ago I decided to ditch my sun visors. I bought a set of visor plugs from iNJOY but had fitment issues since the blanks are bit bigger than the stock ones. No one else seemed to have this problem but me for some reason.

JDM side markers

Dumb question, but did you try flipping the iNjoy plugs around? Maybe you got NA ones, idk if there's actually a difference... The side markers should look good on there, especially not having the stock ones up front.

^ They looked symmetrical. Don't think it would of made a difference.

Yeah the side markers will be good to have. They are for the JetStream NB Aero fenders I ordered back in February (Spoiler Alert).

I ordered them without the side marker holes but I bought some anyways just in case. Plus, I wanted to try out my Buyee account for Yahoo Japan Auctions which was pretty awesome. From the time I placed my bid and paid for the item it only took 9 days for it to arrive at my doorstep. My item was a a "buy it now" purchase so I didn't have to wait for the auction to end. Most of the time was spent for the item to show up in the Buyee Tokyo warehouse from the seller. EMS shipping to me took only 3 days. The fees were very reasonable too. I'll probably use it again :D

My Custom Alcantara items arrived from JPM Coachworks today. Didn't waste time to install them.

I had one small issue with the shift boot not being oriented correctly. I requested a 4 panel shift boot that looks like an "X". They sent me one that looks like "+". I did a few cuts and made some new holes and it worked out fine. It was just a matter of rotating it.

Overall pretty happy. I have plenty of more ideas for my interior... so I'll be ordering from them again soon!

First, is a Alcantara Brake boot from JPM Coachworks. I already had a alcantara brake boot from another shop but the thread quality didn't match JPM's. This Alcantara material is addicting. I plan on doing more pieces in Alcantara for my interior.... like a diamond pattern hardtop headliner, steering wheel, rollbar padding cover, door inserts.

Haven't really thought of that. Maybe the last performance mod I'll consider would be the BP5A/MSM intake cam swap.

About 3-6hp gain depending on what other performance mods the car has already. Probably not that noticeable....

I got my 1.75" Hard Dog molded rollbar padding today. I figured the shape of the Hard Dog rollbars was very similar to the Blackbird Fabworx rollbar. I was right. Its off by a little bit in the bends but not by alot. Still looks great.

I plan on getting a custom cover made for the padding soon.

I had to cut a bit of foam material in the bends where the X tubing meets the main hoop so the padding can sit flush.

I also got bad news about my JetStream Aero front fenders. They got stuck in Japan by mistake and didn't make it on the expected cargo shipment. So, no exterior updates until a few more months.

personally the autoexe is my favorite. it's a similar shape to the HKS kansai, but flows better with NB lines.

the NOPRO bumper is nice too, but i like how "clean" the autoexe is. the NOPRO is a tad bit too aggressive for me.

I did some pricing on it. But serious go nopro. On rev9s Facebook he has a picture of a blue nb in Japan with it fitted on a stock body car.

I think it depends on what other aero you plan on running. With the jetstream fenders, I'd keep it simple with the autoexe bumper.

Yeah, I plan on running the JetStream aero fenders along with the OEM small side skirts. I think I can wrap the small piece of the side skirt on the aero fenders since they are pretty flexible.

Thanks for all of your opinions.

Autoexe has always been my favorite. So pricey though. NOPRO is a close second but I don't like it with the canards. HKS bumper is a new one that I've been looking at lately. The more I see it the more I like it.

The auto exe is a little subtle. The no pro is a little much for me. The his is right in the middle. It flows well with the stock body lines but has just enough definition along the bottom to look a little aggressive. But not overly aggressive either.

The more I look at it the more I want an nb.

Installed the headliner yesterday.

I mocked it up and the headliner was off about 1/4 of an inch on the sides which wasn't so bad. In retrospect I should of removed the stock headliner and sent it to JPM to make a more accurate piece.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7432/9324299020_b6f7dee29f_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/9324299020/)

Removed the stock headliner. It can be removed in one whole piece if done carefully. I used Goo Gone to remove leftover glue spots but only in the edges though since the rest will be covered anyways.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3754/9324296090_a5439d1edb_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/9324296090/)

Fabric glue sucked. The backing of the headliner was this nylon type of material. I ended up using liquid nails for extreme temperatures and Amazing Goop all purpose glue. I dapped glue on each intersection of the diamond pattern. Glue sets in about a hour. I used weights among other things to press down the headliner against the hardtop. I only worked on a few sections at a time. So it took about 4 rounds of gluing and weights to complete the whole headliner. Left it over night to fully cure.

The next day the headliner looked nice and flat against the hardtop. Glue fully cured.

I love all the subtle things you've done with your car. As far as the front bumper goes...I don't think the AutoExe is aggressive enough to match the fenders. Believe me, I've been contemplating the exact same set up for a while. Of the choices above I'd go OEM NB2 with Jetstream Clubman R add-ons or the HKS if you can find it. The lines the Jetstream lip creates matches the lines with the fenders real well, while the HKS is aggressive without being over the top. To me the AutoExe's lack of hard angles looks like it was meant to work with the stock body, especially with how subtle it is. Just my thoughts. I wouldn't be totally suprised if you end up liking how they look with your current bumper.

For the past few weeks I've been thinking of ways to do my own door panels...... I think I have an idea on how to achieve that.

I'll reuse the NB2 door panel upper portion. That includes the small triangle piece with the tweeter speaker and the the piece above the groove that runs along the top that will be cut and separated.

The reason I'm reusing this is for 1. Need the piece that protects the glass window when it rolls up and down. 2. These pieces are needed to match perfectly with the dash when the door is closed. 3. Reuse the plastic rivet to secure to the door frame.

The upper long piece will be tapered down as is gets further away from the dash. I'll probably make a super long v cut along the top and then glue the cardboard piece back together. Should be pretty flat once it gets to the edge of the door so it won't rub on my Bride seat. I'll need to figure out a way to close out the gaps where this piece meets with the new flat door panels. Might have to curve the flat panel here.

Below the groove will be the flat portion of the door panel. Probably will use a light material such as thin sheet of compressed board. CF would be too expensive and not sure how good it will match with the rest of my interior.

I'll reuse the stock door panel edges that have the plastic rivets holes on the sides and attach it to the new flat door panel piece. This will help secure the flat panel piece to the door and give it more a clean look rather than seeing screws visible on the flat part of the panel. Again more gluing cardboard pieces together for this part.

For door pulls I'll use a nylon or leather strap and run it inside the door so the screw securing it the the door frame is hidden. A slit will be made on the flat door panel piece for the strap to go through. The slit will be angled and not horizontal.

Sort of like this but with the strap being a bit shorter in length
http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/preview_img_08500_zps229beccf.jpg

I'll leave a 8" speaker hole and will try to find a nice looking metal speaker grill to cover it.

Black on black will be the final look I'm looking for.

I'll probably leave the small triangle piece with the tweeter speaker as is......... just so it can flow with the dash. If I wrap this in something else I think it will not flow well with the dash vinyl material.

The long upper piece will get wrapped in black leather with a black single stitch running along the bottom and edge that meets the small triangle piece.

The new flat door panel piece will get wrapped in black alcantara diamond stitch pattern just like my hardtop headliner.

Door pulls will be black in color. I'm leaning towards nylon material at the moment. I thought it will be cool if it was bright red.....but then it might stand out too much.

This whole idea is inspired by the D-technique door panels. Which I think will look fairly close to my mine when I'm done.

Not much has happened this month since I made a huge purchase. I snagged a Autoexe front bumper from YAJ. I didn't save that much money buying it used compare to new but I will be receiving it faster so that's the upside. 1 month compare to 5-6 months.

I also purchased the fender braces from Gragestar's groupbuy. I figured since I'll be replacing my fenders soon it will be a perfect opportunity to add these. One set will be raffled and given a full refund back so I'm hoping its me :p

I started to work on my inner door panels that I was discussing earlier. So far I got a good paper template. I will now transfer it to a cardboard to do more test fitting.

I was able to work on the door panel this weekend. I transferred my paper template to cardboard and made further refinements.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/a608f187-b5a5-4996-b46d-ac51b941e076_zps0a83526a.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/frivera2121/media/a608f187-b5a5-4996-b46d-ac51b941e076_zps0a83526a.jpg.html)

I cut the upper half of the NB2 door panel and test fit it on my cardboard template. I cut a bit too much along the top on the cardboard template.....so I need to fix that so there's no gap between pieces. Overall its starting to take shape! I plan to smooth the transition from the upper NB2 door portion to the flat panel with foam. I'll carve the foam so it can line up with the dash as well.

I don't know yet. I need to finish mine first to see how much time and money will be needed to complete a set. So far the template has been the most time consuming part since its the most important one. Replicating pieces off of it shouldn't be too bad.

My flat door panel project stalled a bit bc I was waiting on my new speakers to arrive. I figured this would be the perfect time to add them.

I went with 8" Focal IS 200 integrated component speakers. I got everything I needed to get the job done....dynamat, speaker baffles, T speaker harness.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/DSCN1829_zps590d7142.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/frivera2121/media/DSCN1829_zps590d7142.jpg.html)

10" dynamat

Speaker baffles cut.

T harness makes installation super easy...plugs into the OEM speaker harness.

The extra baffle foam material is great to wrap around the harness to reduce rattles.

Used the OEM mounting bracket for the Focal tweeters. Again the baffle foam material was perfect for making it a super tight fit.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/DSCN1882_zps6504d119.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/frivera2121/media/DSCN1882_zps6504d119.jpg.html)

I ran wiring for the tweeters thru a hole located above the woofers. I added quick disconnect connectors for easy removal of the upper door panels.

I got these custom made sling nylon straps. They are 1.5" wide with a 3 " loop. I got a extra red one just for fun.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/DSCN1890_zpsa3292c26.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/frivera2121/media/DSCN1890_zpsa3292c26.jpg.html)

I changed the red stitching on my Bride Stradia Sport seat to black. I used a oil based paint Sharpie. A normal Sharpie leaves a purple hue and doesn't really cover the red completely.

Trying to get rid off anything red in the interior. My 350mm deep corn Nardi will be next. I'll probably get it re wrapped in black alcantara with black stitching. S2k start button will be painted black using the same Sharpie markers.

The door cards pretty much. They will be covered the same as the headliner...black alcantara with black diamond stitching pattern. So it all has to match to look right.

I've seen a second version that has a cleaner look.

Engine bay updates.

Finally decided to install my Mazdaspeed plug wires over the weekend. What usually is a 5 minute job turned out to be a 2 hr job because of all the aftermarket crap I had blocking access to the plug wires.

Had to remove in order......
1. Cowl cover
2. Engine damper
3. 3pt strut bar
4. JetStream Sparkplug Cover

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/65579698-ed3d-4270-a4f4-76d9e84a9c8c_zps76a87c36.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/frivera2121/media/65579698-ed3d-4270-a4f4-76d9e84a9c8c_zps76a87c36.jpg.html)

Couldn't fully take out the strut bar thanks to the longer studs on the Tein Basis coilovers.

And....a month ago I decided to reroute the Map/Boost vacuum lines on the passenger side of the engine bay. I moved all of these solenoids and sensors to the back of the fuse box were they are kinda hidden.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/98586d4f-0363-4403-b5d7-0d7b390fd6b9_zpsf55f5bed.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/frivera2121/media/98586d4f-0363-4403-b5d7-0d7b390fd6b9_zpsf55f5bed.jpg.html)

Bracket that got removed.

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq266/frivera2121/9f6ee8e8-855e-4f3a-ba8c-514ee8389597_zps222bfa08.jpg (http://s454.photobucket.com/user/frivera2121/media/9f6ee8e8-855e-4f3a-ba8c-514ee8389597_zps222bfa08.jpg.html)

The next day after doing this vacuum reroute I drove the car to the airport to drop off my roommate and the car lost all power as I was leaving the terminal..... no acceleration whatsoever. I was coming down a ramp so with the momentum i managed to roll the car down and pullover. I didn't turn off the car and the idle seemed fine...I popped the hood and went straight to my rerouted vacuum lines....I figured a line must of kinked or collapsed since I did a very sloppy job and kinda just jammed all of those lines in that corner of the engine bay. I jiggled and moved them around ....and went back inside the car and turned it off. I turned the car back on and rev'd the engine and I had power again. Ever since this incident the car has been running like crap thou.

Car idles perfect with no CEL but I have no top end power under hard acceleration. Exhaust sounds louder than usual. Most power seems to be lost at 3,500 rpm's and higher. I can't really get it to rev above 4,000 rpm's unless the car is in park or neutral..even then it only goes up to 5k ish.

I figured I might have a clogged cat so I purchased a IR gun to check the temperatures of the inlet and outlet spots of the cat but the inlet was cooler than the outlet. 315 F inlet 375 F outlet. So I kinda ruled that out...Unless those temperatures are too hot?

I also did other maintenance stuff to see it would help...clean air filer, replace old pvc valve, change plug wires, test camshaft sensor with a new one....none of it helped. One thing I did noticed a bit strange was that the vacuum cap that is located on top of the intake manifold near the throttle body was almost 3/4 of the way out. It must of moved when the car lost power.

What else could it be? Fuel pump? Clogged fuel filter? Timing belt skipped a tooth? Did my MAP/boost sensor mess up? or the vacuum solenoids connected to it?

Any help/suggestions would be great.

Don't know how to help with your poss of power problem, I did the same thing removing that bracket and putting everything back behind the fuse box last year and have had no problems. Maybe reverse the vacuum hoses one at a time to make sure they didn't get screwed up during the move/tuck?

Yeah, that's another possibility ... I'll have to see a stock setup to compare. I did my best to keep track of all the vacuum lines but there's always a chance I might of screwed up.

Another update of my never ending door panel project.

I had to add in a piece since I noticed I had left a pretty big gap near the footwell area of the door.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7375/11248652064_ceaa991b41_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/11248652064/)

Then I bought some custom MDF rings for the door panels.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3766/11248680106_ed28808538_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/11248680106/)

They are angled/tapered from 3/4" to 1/2"

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7293/11248694746_91c0f4c01a_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/11248694746/)

Then they are glued to the speaker hole. They are meant to space out the door panel evenly along the door sill but I can also see it improve audio and reduce road noise from coming inside the car.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3685/11248768753_e02affc2fe_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/11248768753/)

Perfect fitment and looks good.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3703/11248832643_f333bd9db8_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/90193343@N05/11248832643/)

Flush against door sill.....no gaps.

Unfortunately the spacing created by the mdf rings meant the speaker grill wont longer fit as it will hit the dash when the door is closed. I will need to find a slimmer speaker grill setup or replace the grill base with a new custom one out of metal.

On the back I reused a clip to mount the panel to the door frame. One was just enough. I cut a piece of the yellow plastic on the back of the clip to make it smaller in height and glued it to the panel using all purpose glue. It worked perfectly.

I bought a roll of weather seal to pad some areas to avoid any vibrations. The small rectangular piece at the bottom is another spacer.

I received my alcantara diamond quilted fabric just in time for the next step. Made by JPM Coachworks.

Gluing has begun.

One thing I forgot to consider was the thickness of the foam on the quilted alcantara fabric. Barely cleared the openings for the sling strap and the door handle. On the side near the door jam it's rubbing and door won't close easily. So I'll probably trim the rubber seal a bit for some clearance.

NB door sills are kinda bulky and it's a super tight fit. I don't want the alcantara to rub on it and wear off over time. I'll probably try NA door sills since they are slimmer and more flat. Anybody knows if its a direct fit? NA door sills on a NB....

Yea! Already planning on that. Going to get it wrapped in black leather with some nice stitching along the bottom edge. I plan on adding a speaker grill as well.

Here's the sketch I did a long time ago.

That sketch is retro yet modern at the same time.

Can't wait for the fenders and bumper to be installed. Any eta on that?
