My girlfriends Miata!

So we grabbed a Miata for her because she has always liked them but didn't want one because of me. Well it popped up, she wanted a car, so we looked at it and decided to get it. Well its not a looker and it needs a LOT of love. But, it came with some cool stuff that made the purchase worthwhile. Its a 94 Black and Tan, well used to be tan. The owner before the PO painted all the tan shit grey... Then he made some ugly door panels, fit some fat racing seats, dented the thing all over and put 17 inch wheels on it. The engine was swapped but unknown mileage, probably some junkyard engine but it pulls so hard and starts right up. New tranny because the PO was driving and it blew. It also has a LSD in the back!

So some nifty things on the car
-carbon fiber hood
-racaero seats (may be fake, may be real. They are super annoying)
-m2 hard dog roll bar
-unknown aftermarket headers
-some fancy intake
-17 inch ghetto RIMS!
-drill and slotted rotors (those are going)
-kyb shocks with GC coilovers (car rides great)

Some bad things... actually a lot
-dents.... everywhere
-headlights are all sorts of funky
-Attempt at HIDs
-a broken amp gauge
-a destroyed shifter
-broken oil gauge
-key broke in half, car still turns on
-window switch is broken
-too much shitty wiring, sound systems and etc.
-altezza lights
-strange wiring under the hood
-the top is beyond destroyed

Good things
-car feels great
-starts up every time
-clutch grabs
-radio works!
-all the nifty stuff
-The dash isn't cracked
-NO RUST!!!! Well can't find any...
-HER PARENTS LIKE IT

Well over the weekend my girlfriend has gone from super excited, to shit scared. But she is excited to work on the car, clean it up and show it off. We will take many pictures but she made me promise not to show anymore updates. She wants to surprise everyone when its done so that's the plan. Best part, we paid 1500 bucks for it. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

$1500 is solid. Is this another Maaco candidate? Looks like the paint could use some attention. Coilovers + Hard Dog = win IMO. I'm reallllly wanting to get a diagonal roll bar and new shocks for Camber, but at close to a grand and no job, they will have to wait.

Hmmm... the girl I'm dating has rather enjoyed rides in my Miata. Perhaps down the road I can convince her to move from her huge four door Saturn to a Miata of her own.

Gavin, there is another local member that has some stock parts stored at my warehouse if you need them, im sure he will let them go for cheap, stock seats, wheels, etc.

If you shave some weight off that car via those heavy wheels/seats that car will feel a bit faster off the line. Lemme know! nice score!

Yes this will be done at Maaco because the shop does good work IMO. She won't let me tell anyone her plans and she is keeping her lips sealed about it also. She wants to surprise people. I just want to get those freaking seats out! They are so fat that they won't slide forward enough for me to look at how they are bolted in. Even with all this weight the car is stupid fast. (I know miatas aren't fast, they are "quick") but with all this weight it still spins those 17 inch tires out of first.

I like to think so. Also, glad you chimed in. She loves your gauges. I made her look at a bunch of cars to give her ideas and every time she saw your gauges she about died. I think that might be one of her Christmas presents :P

Alright so lets talk updates. TO be honest, we both got super lazy. But, we did accomplish some things and after a serious heart to heart we are at it again!

Thus far; I ripped out (with an amazing amount of help from AhhthatsJDMyo) those ugly recaros (which are for sale), the carpet, the dash and everything really. Cleaned everything and put in a back dash, stock seats, rebuilt the shifter, fixed the headlights (wouldn't go up). Also had the dents pulled! Now we are trying to get the stock seats bolted down, the temp gauge working and doing routine maintenance. (fluids really)

Oh and we got rid of those nasty 17 inch tires (also for sale) and put on some stock NB wheels, decent tires, and lowered it.

Yay new boot, shifter rebuild and stock shifter. It previously had a crap mazdaspeed, ricer wanna be one.

Not sure how I feel about the door cards, but for a $1500 car, its not terrible.

Once you get the body straight and zero dents etc, you need to tell your girl to paint that Miata in the Mazdaspeed3 Blue color, not sure what its call, but it is stunning in person, trust me the pictures dont do this color justice, just like your green, its very vibrant! Would be a killer photo shoot once painted and sitting next to your Miata!

Yeah that color is just so nice in person, if I had seen that color first I would have got that instead of the Silver MS3 I have now.

It really is a great color! I feel like in most pictures it would look like Mariner blue, but in person it would look awesome on a Miata!

All the dents are gone. We just need a new front bumper, rear bumper, finish panel and drivers side fender unless the body guy can fix them. She does plan on that color and already has a quote on the paint job. Should look good when done.
