I believe its has a lot work done by chikara motors in Canada. If it is, its ready to lay a smack down.

Mine as it currently sits:

Yet to be tuned. Hard to start when cold but OK when warm.

Things yet to do:
1. COPS conversion -> Some wiring issues to be resolved
2. Install Capri valve cover + Maruha cam cover

ITB with A/C...nice. How is idling controlled with it on?

Toolman has ITBs. Perhaps when he finishes you can see/hear/ride in one...

I would love to ride in that thing. I just feel its power and isn't conflicting with reliability. Turbo gives more power but requires lots of work and possible blowing up of an engine.

You think IRTB's won't come with their fair share of headaches either? :teehee:

IRTB's will need just as much initial setup tuning as a turbo IMHO. If you want to boost it and not tinker with it (good luck) then maybe get a Supercharger instead. IRTB's will need some tinkering in cold weather, and Turbos will need tinkering as once the Turbo bug bites you will want to keep upping the boost!!!

I<3flippyheadlights
01-23-2012, 01:26 PM
No i understand IRTB's will need tuning and work, but I feel they give much more reliable power then a turbo set up. I will also avoid the boost bug. Phat you would agree with me on that since you want a V8 Miata instead of a turbo one.

i will have that setup ready by winter this year, except this

All i need is the "turbo plenum". btw: what's the english technical term for this type of intake mani?

The RB26DETT is set up as such. ITB's + twin turbo.

Best response plus power in 1 :)

More info on the turbo IRTB please!!

Take a look at the Jenvey HP (http://www.jenvey.co.uk/home/turbo-plenum). they got that turboplenum available. IL-Motorsport is working on a Jenvey IRTB-Turbo Setup for the MX5.
I don't know how it is called in english, but here is a wiki page that explains the way it works:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaltsaugrohr

just use gooletrans. maybe you will be able to understand it.
it's splitting the intakeair a part and delivers the exact same amount of air to all TBs. it even works without IRTBs, then you mount it on cut OEM intake mani and mount a TB at the intake of the plenum. it still splits the air better then a normal intake mani, where the last cylinder doesn't get the same amount of air, like the first.

that turbo plenum is not producing much more power in the lower and mid range, but it produces a better pedalresponse and topend power.
have to save some money, but i think in september i will be ready to order it. i already have everything else her, or ordered. the Jenvey IRTBs, a DIYPnP (i know, not the best ECU for IRTB-use, but it will work), all needed sensors and the Kraftwerks-kit is already ordered. i will start a build thread in the next days anyway. so i sure will show some dyno sheets as soon as it will be ready.

??? Why should i? it is pretty common to turbo, or F/I IRTB setups.

1. I dont think its ever been done to a miata.

Maybe someone can help me. I'm in the midst of putting together a 01-05 Jenvey kit I bought new, from a private seller. Why doesn't the backplate line up with the ITB's? I can get the left pair of air horns on the plate, but the right pair is offset for some weird reason. Left two horns removed for the picture.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/536012_3441319597402_1402947049_60124299_171305780 5_n.jpg
You can see here the ITB's are bolted to the manifold adapter. I removed the left pair of injector dust-covers but they're installed right so why would the plate be so off?

What's the best course of action from here? Thanks for any help in advance.

Thought I ought to post a pic or two of my setup as its only a few weeks from being road legal... Its still only test rigged at the moment, so still need to decide where to mount the AFPR and where to route all the fuel pipes... but it runs!!

Just took it to about 2500-3000 revs so keeping it sensible for the neighbours late inthe evening... but there is a hint of what this will sound like!

http://i590.photobucket.com/albums/ss345/vindi49/Video/th_03092012052.jpg (http://s590.photobucket.com/albums/ss345/vindi49/Video/?action=view&current=03092012052.mp4)

And here is Malcolms car... he's a bit further down the road than me, car is just completed and with about 3 hours to spare he chucked it on a trailer and took it racing...

Gutting really and they are still tracking down what went wrong! Up to that point he was running in 4th, having a scrap with a factory Nissan 370Z... bit of a Giant killer methinks!!

Here's another one from the UK, this is a Fuji IRTB setup that the guy then turbo'd... goes nicely apparently, even though Fuji said it wouldn't work!
