back story time:
Not new to Mazdas
Bought my wife a 2003 Mazda Protege5 bone stock which has been with us the last 7 years without incident
Loved that car but wanted a stick so i bought my own bone stock 2003 Mazda Protege5 but in 5spd
It turned into a Mazdaspeed Protege5 clone with a very extensive mods list

Sold that for a project Miata (My 1990 smurf) which was pretty rough

Replaced the top, quite a bit of the interior, added a Harddog roll bar as well as AAC flushmount headlights but moved to an apt with no garage, so sold the project for the current car

Mods list:

Exterior
Racing Beat TypeII nose
Retrofix Lighting custom bixenon projector retrofitted headlights with 4300K HID's
"Blazer" fog light projectors with 3000K 35 watt HID's
Clear smoked turn signals
Kosie Seneka sport 16's

Engine:
Flyin Miata Turbo II system
Flyin Miata turbo back exhaust
Enthusa test pipe
CX Racing aluminum radiator

Chassis:
Flyin Miata V-maxx coilovers
Boss Frog Dual Hoop roll bar

Interior:
Momo Champion 350mm wheel
Voodoo polished e-brake handle
Custom 5 gauge panel in double din
Rockford Fostgate components
Stereo removed -aux into amp
windows and windshield tinted
White gauge faces
Autometer boost gauge
AEM wideband
Glowshift vitals gauges

plan:
15" NB sport wheels waiting in the patio to get new rubber and replace the Koseis'
Flyin Miata butterfly brace
Flyin Miata sway bars

There's a button in the center stack that will lower those headlights when they're not on ;)

Thread from the dead after deciding to not sell the car but rather keep it and eventually pick up a Jeep or something cheap and keep the miata for nice weather and track days

Update on what's been done though:

CXRacing aluminum radiator
new clutch master and slave
Removed the 5 gauge pod in favor of a single din
Innovate MTXL wideband
Replaced all coolant, oil, and vacuum lines

http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b612/richterat83/a_zpsfb19d6a8.png (http://s1294.photobucket.com/user/richterat83/media/a_zpsfb19d6a8.png.html)

List of planned parts:
Flyin Miata Happy Meal Stage I clutch
949Racing stage I brake kit
Flyin Miata swaybars
Garage Vary nostalgia taillight kit
Autokonexion fastback or an OEM hardtop (so i can still take in that sunshine)

and i sold the NB wheels and decided to hold out for some 6UL's next time tires are needed

What's up Tony!! Yeah, been MIA (but still driving it almost daily)

But an update that developped yesterday. Clutch is going bye-bye. Went into boost and suddenly engine revs keep climing but the cars not picking up speed.

I knew it would be soon (thrust bearing has been noisy)

So, the wife HAS to learn to drive stick this weekend, because she's not learning on a new clutch

Got a goodie bag en route for the miata.

Flyin Miata Level 1 clutch, trans input gasket, cam sensor o-ring, rear crankshaft seal, Flyin Miata rear seal tool, front trans seal, upper and lower shift boots, speedo-cable

time for a little TLC for the car when it all gets here

Sweet. Fun little project. I did my first tranny swap for a friend a few weekends ago. Not terribly hard, but I'd try to get a second set of hands available

Oh and a Lisle 24680 Spill-Free Funnel. Should make the coolant flushing/refilling/burping process MUCH cleaner

And would Callie's hands be adequate? Just a set to help align things/push pull on the motor to get trans in out?

A few more goodies ordered. New K&N 3" round filter and new pedal covers (stock rubber to replace the stock rubber that came off)

Also, removed the HID projector fogs and ordered a set of 10w LED flood lights (i am currently running 1 on the scooter as a DRL and works great)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41vEXFJ9ONL._SY355_.jpg

and after pulling the charge pipes to test the GM IAT sensor and it failling, i took a peak down inside and looks like the sensor some how shorted or burned out.

So i'll be going by the auto parts store on the wya home for a new one

So the sensor for certain is the culprate. After removing it from the charge pipes, this is what it looks like.

Tested the new sensor first though before removing the old and new sensor works as well as the wiring in the car, so dead sensor only (thankfully it was simple)

Also, ordered a bluetooth module for the Megasquirt so i'll be able to use the tablet as my dash (using shadow dash) and still be able to power it .

CUrrently i use a Galaxy Tab 3 8" as digital dash, but since it's running hardwired (serial to USB adapter>Usb to micro USB adapter>Tab) it works, but doesn't provide power to the tab, so battery sucks. Running via bluetooth frees up the port on the tab to plug in a powered cable.

Also got the idea to put some rare earth magnets either side of my current gauge/din pocket as well as some strips of carbon steel in the tab case so it'll basically float over the double DIN slot

similiar to this

That mount idea is great, I may have to do that to my Injoy double-din cover.

Does the magnets affect the way the tablet works. A guy at work set his phone on toolbox and it starting messing up. He was getting mad at the phone. He must of picked it up and set it down four or five times before i pointed out to him that he had a magnetic bolt tray on the inside of toolbox lid and it was messing up phone functions. It was fine once removed but long term affect of a magnet might be dammaging.

Was he having interference issues for phone/text? I'll be using a tablet there (wifi only) so we'll see if it affects anything

It affected the entire phone. Touching the screen would do nothing. He thought his phone froze.

Decided against the magnet setup and picked up suction mount instead

Also clutch came in but ended up sick all weekend so i'll be attempting clutch install this weekedn now.
