I love reading the "vintage themed" miata threads on some of the other sites, even if I never post there anymore... Despite the "vintage" feeling here, where are all the retro styled miatas??

My little retro-roadster. It is getting fitted with new RBs and some Megan EZs. Oh it's going to be so very, very retro.

Justin really like what you have going on there! I think you have done chrome/polished the correct way using it as only accents here and there. Where did you get your seats redone at?
replace the style bar with a double hoop roll bar (also in chrome) and that thing would be even more amazing.

Nice wheels too! (same as mine)

wait, he didn't use the LE interior??

Hang on there... Two different events being referred to: at one time I had cash down on an entire red LE interior but then bailed. Months later I picked up some new LE carpet and German NB seats with the separate headrests to recover in red leather. Seats are installed sans red leather, carpet is not in yet. Goal is an R-limited look (not all int pieces red), and its a back burner project.

From your signature, I see you have an NB. Nice cars to be sure, but for an effective retro look, you need the NA.... I think it's great to create the vintage, retro look with our roadsters. It's a refreshing change from the boy racer, drifter, or $hit can that some people prefer. My (unsolicited) advise if you want to pursue this endeavor, is to be patient, be thorough, do not cut corners and let your creativity guide you.

Needs different wheels. Panasports, RBs, BBS RS/RM, Enkei 92, etc would help enhance the classic/retro look.

Cermivelli, that is a beautifully done car. I agree with the others that a different style of wheel would really complement the rest of the car.. Of course, if you like them, that's the most important part
If I were you though, I'd try to get another set of wheels more in keeping with the retro/vintage style.... Anything along the lines of Panasports or minilights would work well, or some of the four-spoke styles. The 15" size also gives you a decent choice of tire sizes... Bottom line is that your car rocks!:D

Needs different wheels. Panasports, RBs, BBS RS/RM, Enkei 92, etc would help enhance the classic/retro look.

A couple pictures of my work in progress.... Hope you all enjoy... Retro like my age (wrong side of 40)....

Most of the stuff is from RS Products, also have a retro centre console waiting to be installed and some Nakamae door panels with leather straps and stainless speaker kick plates. Also a retro fuel cap from Zoom, and a leather dash top from Rev 9. And most important, some new seats as the current drivers seat is held together with duct tape!

Also installed a Mcintosh head unit from a Subaru Legacy as I find its a really great retro looking unit that lends itself perfectly to a retro theme. After all of this, hopefully a tan top and some SSR Mk2 rims with gold centre piece and I will be happy...

A lot of inspiration from Oldcafe actually! :)

I never heard of ex Dimebrg they look exactly like Wats. They are pretty much flush with the fenders, but would have liked mine to be x 7... either way I'm not complaining. They are still my dreams wheels even two years after mounting them on my car.

I will now blast your eyeballs with original 23 year old paint and a brand new set of 93LE carpets going in

Dang, Sharka sets the bar high. Just amazing looking. Once I get my NA, and save some mod money, I'll be hitting you up for warbird gauges (condensed) and both types of switches. The plan is for a warplane tribute to ww2 vet grandad.

This is a vintage leather wrapped Moto Lita I restored that originally was delivered on a Walmsley Sport. Note how the spokes are completely bare, the leather doesn't ride up on them at all. I've never seen another like it.

Some custom gauges from Revlimiter, my design and his execution. Similar is now in the store as version Alpha.

That's Bill's Bent Short Shifter there, excellent piece. great feeling and great positioning of the shift knob relative to the wheel.

Thanks, and also to many others for inspiration and ideas

And, I got word today MY SEATS ARE COMPLETED finally! Only 9 months spent fussing trying to find a matching leather, pick a pattern, etc. will pick them up Aug 13 from a shop in Frederick, MD on my way to new home and job in Tennessee... Which means installation will be delayed a bit. And the family is thrilled to be making a detour the day of the big move to do Miata stuff.

And they are prolly not going to be as spectacular as I make them out to be. I just really wanted a set with vertical center panels like on an early 60s sports car, made for the seats I have (seperate headrest German NB) and the closest match to LE Red and the Nakamae panels I have, which after going through many samples turned out to be I think a Cadillac color, Napa Red, which is available in both leather and vinyl.

Excited.

Baby also got a NOS Mazda A/C compressor today, and 2 lbs of genuine R-12 refrigerant. So I get bonus points for having vintage refrigerant.

Dave737

I don't think my car is as retro / vintage as the cars in this thread but I am pleased with how it is progressing in the short time I have owned it. Haven't done anything really to the exterior as had to a lot of rust and rot, broken Diff, clutch, wheel bearing that all needed fixing at pretty much the same time so funds have dried up for a bit.

I've been considering doing this, only as somone else mentioned, it needs a clock (or analog timer, if I can find one that isn't eleventy billion dollars.) If I do it, though, it will be set up to match a wooden-panel DIY KG style instrument cluster.

Not to sure about a clock but i've been considering mounting one of those cheap ebay amp's in the panel. Also thinking of putting a starter button there. This is just a first step to cover the hole left from the stereo.

Funny you mention the DIY kg works cluster cause that was exactly what i was planning together with this panel when i had the Trap tombstone.
Got all the parts to make one but decided to part out the car and put it out for sale before i was able to start that project.

funny you both mention the kg works type starter, i was going to buy one but then found out they're discontinued... and i even went and found a 46mm clock to fit the darn awkward thing instead of a 52mm like most gauges! haha, but now i'm just trying to figure out how and where to wire those darn switches to (the three switches on the kg works starter, "accessory" "ignition" "safety") as well as the button itself...

These last two are making a strong case for some S800 mirrors.:slayer:

They are perfect for a classic NA roadster, but right mirror will be completely unuseful.

Well... I started this thread about 2 years ago, and I'm just finally getting to the point where I'm comfortable posting my progress!

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/bleuiii/Baby%20Camber/Camber%202015/4.11.2015a_zpsjmvvcttd.jpg (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/bleuiii/media/Baby%20Camber/Camber%202015/4.11.2015a_zpsjmvvcttd.jpg.html)

Still need to re-install the GV lip, then its time to begin the interior, starting with door cards (and cleaning all the dust from paint over the winter.)

Need to decide - meatball or rocker stripes? Since I autoX, a meatball and magnetic numbers for when I'm racing seems like the way to go.
I also have 2 sets of TRM C1s. I'll likely dip one of them vintage gold, although the look of the wheels isn't quite "vintage." Kind of wish I would have bought the set of 14x7 panasports I was looking at a few years back.

And then - I went to my first Cars and Coffee today. The miata isn't nearly finished (are they ever?) and there's still a lot to be done. A few hours later, I hopped on facebook and saw that someone had snagged a shot of my car and posted it!

Lovely looking Miata dude! I was very close to going down a similar route and having the windscreen/shield frame wrapped in black vinyl and then buying a black hard top as I like that classic look and it really suits the car. But then I seen the rallyways Miata and I settled on the full red look. I love the Enkwi RPF1's that the Rallyways car sits on but they are very expensive in the UK so went for a classic original 14" minilite from the company that produce wheels for old british classics and caterhams etc.

That looks good Vee. Fair play on importing that.

My photos are a little messy and the silver hard top is not for my black roadster but another roadster but used the black roadster last night to collect it. I took them as think the silver hard top on a black roadster works ok.

VEE that looks nice, a few of us were talking recently about how bad the S2 fitment looked in their pictures. Madaboutmx5s, I just just considering selling my MKIII's, not anymore.

Corifto: Love the car, and great vanity tag! My BRG has similar changes coming, mostly sitting in boxes in the garage for when I ever find time to wrench. It's inspiring to see someone actually making progress.

Thanks! I bought it stock a month and a half ago. Interior has more done than exterior, for now. Still have Zoom side markers, and just ordered Zoom mirrors.

The vanity plate is changing to FWD FTL, as the RWD FTW will be going on my 3 just to mess with people.

Not to take away from Lobo but smac!... that Clubman GT bumper!! Where in the world would a person find one in the US?? Flares are perfect. and those Watanabes. Just the inspiration ahead of boarding this red-eye up to Canada...

I wish i had a good/decent camera to take pics but alas i don't so Todd's aka MC70'S fantastic pics are the only thing suitable now that he has set the bar, i can't bring myself to use the lousy digital camera i have for beauty shots.

Thanks Sharpie! :drinkto:

It still amazes me how muh quality pics really makes because my lousy point and shoot camera doesn't do it justice. First thing i thought when i saw the pics is, 'Wow the pics show Warbird through "my eyes"!', almost as if giving everyone else my perspective which i like to think is pretty accurate of reality and helping non enthusiast see what i see when i look at Warbird. Oddly enough it seems better quality equipment is more forgiving to the flaws, if that makes sense.
