View Full Version : Can we get some G-String testimonials up in here?

I yanked out my soft top in the late summer and have (happily) run HT-only since. I have no desire to put the softie back in, but imminent rollbar installation and talk of Spring drives has me considering a G-String. I am curious, though, how it performs "at speed".

Revlimiter's excellent review (http://revlimiter.net/blog/2011/06/miata-bikini-top/) gives me lots of confidence that it will do the job, but I am curious to hear from some other users. How is the buffeting, windows up or down? Done any long drives with it? Loving your G-String? Please let me (and everyone else) know!

I've had mine up past 120. No buffeting. The center tube makes it amazingly solid.

I can't wait for spring to reinstall.

How much does it cost to get one? I've thought about them before.

Price depends on how much work you want to do yourself, whether you have a rollbar or not, etc. Peep this for pricing on the various options (http://projectgla.com/gstring_na.html).

Indeed, but that thread is more "show us your pics"... I was hoping for me "personal experiential anecdotes".

This is what I wanted to hear. Thanks, Rev!

I'm going to be in serious trouble with collection agencies now. Must have one for my BF double hoop to go with my G side splitters.

So when is this happening? I just bought a bow.

I've had mine on for weeks at a time. For the first couple days you might want to keep an eye and re-tighten the straps as the fabric stretches out. Driving with it on is fantastic. Had it on at 125mph and it was perfectly fine. If you have the windows up and a proper windblocker (like Project G's) while driving when it's cold outside, it still holds the heat inside pretty well. On hot days, it keeps the cabin pretty cool from the combination of shade from the G-String and the open air on 3 sides. I love my G-String. I just wish I had one on my NC (hu-hem, Steve, hahah!).

Jon Bizzo - Source a front bow and it's a done deal!

Thanks guys for the good words on the G-String. Glad your findings are the same as ours.

If I didn't just have to buy a new top a G-string would be mine. Oh well :(

I think this is the best purchase I ever made for my miata. I love this thing. I've had mine out on at a circle track, autocross, road course and taken several 1000+ road trips. I use the heck out of this thing. Once mine wears out finally, I'll be buying another!

I need to get some new pics...

Wow that's a great looking NB. The G-String looks good over the purple roll bar lol.

How are these things driving in the rain with the windows up? Seems like parking it in the rain would be a bad idea. If my MSM was garaged I would consider one.

I couldn't use just the G-String around here, it rains entirely too much. Cali might be a different story though. On days where I know the weather will be great, the hard top comes off but I put it back on at night.

I got caught once in the rain with the G-String on, it wasn't intolerable with the windows up. You still get a tad bit of spray but at least you aren't getting drenched without an option.

As for 'top down' drives in the summer: Nice and protected from sunburn; in the winter: allows the heater to do it's job. It's great environmental protection. :D

Wow that picture is awesome, in cali I think it's great, living in Chicago w/o a garage limits it's power to me.... For now, i want one bad but need to be able to use my softtop after every drive...

I lived in chicago for a while and it sucks lol. I had a garage but it was 2 miles away from the little place I lived in.

Not sure if you are aware, and we have been asked a few times, but you can use the G-String without removing your soft top. It breaks down and fits neatly in the trunk. A protective case is also available. :eagerness:
