I've seen a couple of posts about adding rear speakers to the wind sock. great idea because the door speakers alone are not cutting it and it's important to me. I've ordered 4 new speakers and my question is about the placement. one thread had them in the center and the other had them on either side, which is what my gut tells me to do.
however, i'm concerned that with them behind the seats, would they sound muffled? does anyone have experience with either placement? and are there better alternatives
besides the headrest? thanks in advance. jerry

Where is the Miata's windsock? Was that a factory option?

The OEM windblockers with speakers ('03-'05 NB & MSM) have them on the sides on my NB, and I've never noticed any muffling of the sound from the seatbacks. I expect the speakers are not highly directional.

You might want to fit an NB2 windblocker-with-speakers if you can find one used. The windblockers for the Bose and non-Bose audio systems use different speakers and I believe the Bose system has a small amplifier in the windblocker as well (mine is non-Bose).

I would but I understand now the OP is asking about rear speakers. Over the years, I've done the Mazdaspeed windblocker with speakers, a center speaker setup, two speakers on the parcel shelf and then the last was the custom Clearwater parcel shelf with speakers.

The OP isn't providing enough information other than rear speakers are "important." He said he bought four speakers but didn't say what size, if they're stock replacements for a stock Bose radio or aftermarket which use a different Ohm value than stock.

For now, I will say this: every forum has that guy who insists on "sound stage" and that everyone else who wants rear speakers is just wrong. Personally, I rock rear speakers and love every beat from them but not before doing a proper front speaker install with sound damper and amplifier.

i have upgraded door speakers, upgraded headrest speakers and a 720watt 12" sub in the trunk... bang bang... who needs a trunk anyway? I use the rear deck to haul stuff around...
