View Full Version : changing CPS (camshaft position sensor)

i got my cps for my 02 miata today...i found out where it is..but i dont see a clip on the old one to take it off...is there a trick or a special tool i need to take the old cps off and put the new one on?? thanks

Oh got the bolt couldn't undo the clip but bro came home and his itty bitty fingers (lol) did the trick. Hope the cps was the problem

might want to reset the battery afterwards (but James should know that)

I think OBD2 cars need the codes cleared. Not sure if a battery disconnect does that.

Why should I know that. My Miata does not have odb2

Because your P5 did, and you know how to clear a code. If you guys are out and about, I have an obd2 scanner at work.

You can either use a reader and clear the codes or just pull the battery cable and clear them. Pull the negatice cable off, press the brake and try to start to drain any remaining juice out of the ECU. From there, wait 10 minutes or so and reconnect.
