Google Translated:

It has begun: Mazda MX-5 and Alfa Romeo Spider

We knew they were coming, but it feels good to see driving around the evidence on the street: under these mutilated Mazda MX-5 is the technology of the new, also known as Alfa Romeo Spider in the market.

It is a formula, so about the appearance of the car is unfortunately nothing to say. This package lets really see any of the lines of the new roadsters, but we can at least infer that one is working on it, from the cut and paste job and that in itself is very good news.

The test drivers were caught in the United States. For the Spider is symbolic: Alfa Romeo 4C uses the recently introduced to mark the return to the U.S. market. Reportedly share two roadsters 40 percent of the parts. Those parts are the front and rear axles, engine compartment bulkhead, windscreen and the structure around it.

The result is that the appearance of the cars will hardly agree: they can by the Italians and Japanese call their own stamp on the cars pressing both a completely new body to provide. The motors are separately provided by the brands: Mazda choose 1.5 or 2.0 SkyActiv engines, Alfa Romeo is a compact petrol and the 1.4 MultiAir.

Looks more like the 2013 Club Edition

Edit, I do now see the lights are TAPED onto the front bumper, maybe they are hiding something?

It looks like someone squeezed an NC and the lights started popping out.

Thanks for the editing & polishing, boss!

So... Mazda is testing ND running gear in a slightly disguised NC shell?

Just like Porsche ran the first 959 as Rally car with a 911 body.

Well that means the shell is somewhat compatible,

so .............. then you can take the lighter body of the ND and dump in the NC motor with turbo or S/C and own everyone! hhahaa :winky:

That has to be just an NC chassis they're testing the SkyActiv motor in.

It does just look like an NC.

I wonder how boost friendly this NC motor will be.

Too much Sky Active technology, I hope Mazda keeps the original Zoom Zoom ideas and philosophy that created the joy of the first NA. Going with a smaller car, smaller displacement and a turbo would make this an overnight success I.M.H.O.

I wonder if it will use the same motor as the Mazda 2 on HGH

I'd actually be more happy with those lights than the recessed lights on the NC, that make it look like it's always wearing a disproportionately large mask. But we don't know how it will look.

So basically this is a drivetrain testing car, and not a body production.

Did anyone else notice the number of lugs on the wheels have changed from 5 to 4?

This is a good sign of an actual lighter car!!!!

I would say the NC motor is VERY boost friendly!!!

Here is a good article on a boosted NC,

http://mazdaroadster.net/showthread.php?6858-MX-5-BBR-Turbo-first-drive-review

and there is an outfit here in South Florida that has a turbo kit for the NC Miata as well. They are listed in the Miatapalooza thread somewhere

Here's the NC heavily disguised back in the day. Familiar elements from a (then) current production Mazda slapped all over the car to disguise it's appearance. Seems like what might be going on here.

I can't really tell, but I hope not. It's gonna make it more difficult to find decent wheels for that car :/

Agreed. 4 lug would make things difficult. This is an extremely light camo for anything body wise, so it may be driveline/human interaction testing.

I'm looking at those headlights and there not standard headlights for a Miata. They have a hint of RX-8 but it doesn't have the little front bubble marker light like the NC and RX-7 has.
