Camaro Headlights on NA

i've always loved the rectangular headlight conversion for the NA such as rs active and jass. I've heard of people using 90s camaro headlights and DSM rectangular lights retrofitted and it was a much cheaper diy option. i like the camaro lights because theyre much shorter. when i heard of this mod, i didn't have an NA at the time and now i can't remember where i saw it :( if anyone has any idea where i can get more info on this job, please let me know! i've done some searching and cant find it again :( thanks!!

Exactly which Camaro light are you thinking of? I'm guessing the early 4th gen dual compact headlights.

Those headlights were also used on the Geo Storm and and Oldsmobile and Pontiac models. Similar headlights were also used in some GM trucks.

There are both cosmetic issues, and performance issues when swapping to those headlights. Cosmetically, a single headlight bulb is too narrow and don't fill up the width of the headlight door. But they are too wide to be used side-by-side. When stacked, they look ridiculous. Every time I see this bulb used, they only use on bulb, which leads to the second issue, the performance issue, that you only have a low beam and lose the high beam.

I buddy of mine was building a lightweight autocross Miata and one of the issues he came across was where to lose weight from. He removed the entire headlight assembly on a NA and welded the doors shut for the headlights. He placed the Camaro headlights in the turn signal and they work OK, not the best but not bad either. Plus, where we drive, it fairly lit too.

i saw that link on CR, but really wanted the camaro lights due to the lower profile. unfortunately, it didn't even occur to me before that one was for low and one was for high beam :( i wonder if the rs active and jass lights (both lower profile than the talon) maintain both low and high? i better read through the talon diy thread again to verify this as well

The RS Active have separate low and high beams under a single glass face.

The only light that really replicated the RSA are the PIAA 960 and 940. The 940 is sort of small and not very robust. The 960 is just slightly larger and really well built. I bought a few pair of them to upgrade my RSAs. Here you can see one of the 960 compared to the original RSA light.

Installed and up close you can see the separate reflectors for high and low beams behind the lens.

That looks good, where do you get those PIAA lights? Doesn't look like they are easy to get in the UK

They've been out of production for years. I bought multiple sets from a truck accessory place that was closing down. Keep an eye on ebay. They pop up from time to time.

If I ever clean out my storage house I'll offer my spares for sale.
