In an attempt to get this new section of the forum some more activity I thought I'd post up about my 1/4 mile times in the turbo miata.

Took the car to the drag strip a couple hours away from home for our local groups test and tune. We usually have 4 track days a year but since I was gone for the entire year for work and my car was apart I managed to get it thrown together for the final track day. The weekend before the track day the car was on a flatbed heading home after I blew up my diff, thankfully I got it thrown back together in time to be at the track.

This was my first time at the drag strip and the first few weeks of having the turbo installed on my car. With only a few late nights in Mexico to get benchmarks against other cars I really didn't know what the car would do. From other people's experiences I was expecting a low to mid 13 second pass as my fastest time.

Since I was more focused on my driving I wasn't playing with my tune much at all during the day. I was more focused on eliminating wheel hop off the line. I didn't even raise the boost to the 15psi we had tuned for and left it at around 12psi from the last night of late night festivities when it was really cold and I was hitting boost cut.

Anyways, after a few passes of consistent 13.5-13.3 passes I finally started to really drive the car, actually revving out 1st gear and cutting out a lot of wheel hop with just how I was launching the car I started to get consistent 12.9X passes.

My final pass I ran my PB of 12.83@108.44. I don't doubt I could have gone faster that day but I was happy with a 12.8 since I was expecting 13.3's all day and I didn't want to test my luck since I still had a 2 hour drive back home.

I should be taking the car back to the track a bunch this year with hopes of hitting low 12's, maybe even breaking out of the 12's, but we'll see what actually happens. Before I go back I need to get some sticky tires rather than the 195/50 street tires that were stretched onto a 15x8.

I think I surprised a lot of cars that day. Especially since the lane I was in was the street tire lane and the other lane was for cars on slicks.

Yeah I was wondering why you are using the wider heavier wheels? maybe just to get a baseline

It's the same setup I had when the car was still slow and I wasn't concerned about performance all that much. Then after spending money on all the performance parts there wasn't enough left over for lightweight wheels with sticky tires. That'll hopefully change sometime this year though.
