My youngest son and I have been digging thru my old cars from my childhood. We've found a few fun and/or interesting cars :)

I know some of you have even better old cars. Let's see what you have!

1st photo is from 1972, it was in the ZOWEES or FARBS series. that particular casting is called "Myles Ahead"
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=FARBS+myles+ahead&_sacat=0&_from=R40

2nd photo is from 1972 as well, also a ZOWEES or FARBS series car, pretty sure its called "Red Catchup"
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=FARBS+myles+ahead&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=FARBS+red+catchup&_sacat=0

Mattel only produced these cars ONE YEAR, they were advertised as "Fantastic Car Kooks", they have the iconic "REDLINE" Wheels, $$$ Loose value based on condition would be $45 ~ $90 each

The BMW photo looks more like a Matchbox casting as most of those early cars had opening doors.

also FWIW these are not "Classic", these are VINTAGE REDLINES, and yes there is a HUGE difference in the wording when it comes to these particular models . :slayer:

When I was a little kid, all my toy cars were Corgi. Strange how they disappeared.

I used to have seven Beach Bomb vans. Sold them online a few years ago.

My favorite was the 67 Camaro and the original Evil Weevil. All of my toys from when I was a kid looked like they went through the Vietnam war.

my favorites from my childhood was a matchbox Porsche 944 and a Chinese knock of vw beetle. Still have them both.. Also had a 1:24 1954 MB 300SL Gullwing.. played with that until the wheels fell off.

Some months back while cleaning up my basement I found the Lesney Matchbox cars that I played with as a child. They were my dad's as a kid so they've endured two childhoods worth of playing, some were "loved" a lot more than others.

I decided that this year I'd surprise my dad by returning the cars to him but paired with replacements that are in much better shape. With the help from folks on a diecast forum and a few sellers on eBay I was able to do that and then some. Here's the gift that he's getting this weekend when I travel to see him and my family.

I got this case off of the diecast forum and added more of the extra cars to it as well:

Thats bad ass, what a great idea to pair his originals with mint ones.
That sure took some time and thought, not to mention $!

Might check out the Carney displays, thats what I keep mine in.
I have one for Matchbox and one for Hot Wheels Redlines.

Out of curiosity, what are some of those Lesney matchbox cars worth? I have a set I have been moving around for years. I somehow ended up with them from my grandparents house. They were toys there that all my cousins and I would play with while we were there. I am one of the youngest males of that generation on that side of my family. I took a few pics, some cars have little accessories, like livestock, pipes, I-beams, etc. Any leads would be appreciated!

I've been working on this off and on for about 3 or 4 months.

It wasn't too cheap but I think it's going to be so worth it and then some in terms of sentimental value. He and I spent a lot of time together with die cast & model cars.

Thanks! Carney displays were actually what I was thinking about for his birthday in April. :)

That's the plan. Hopefully I can sneak that somehow, he has no idea this is coming.

Loose they still actually retain a good amount of value even with paint chips and missing tires, but that looks like a good, clean collection you have! It appears that they all have their tires and "extras" too. What I did was compare prices against sold auctions on eBay, that was about the only place that had a consistent average of what people were paying for these cars in recent months. In lots they typically sell for less per car than they would individually but not always, I saw a couple lots go way up in price. From what I can see, each one of those Lesneys would start at about about $2-4 each depending on the casting, some would stay around there, while others like the BP tow truck, Greyhound bus, and Lincoln Continental can go up to $6-10 depending on who is buying.

What's killing me now is that I see some cars in your pictures that I remember playing with as a kid but that aren't in my collection here. My dad probably wouldn't remember but now I know. lol

Thanks! I had not opened this up much before tonight and looked at some images to figure out what accessories go with what. The kennel truck has four little plastic dogs I found in the bottom of the box with a removable clear top, the cattle truck has two plastic bulls inside the bed of it, etc. I don't have kids and am not planning to. I guess I should try to look some of this stuff up. most have been payed with, but aside from nicks and chips, they are mostly intact.

This is one of the few cars I retained from childhood. I doubt it has any big dollar value, but it has some fun factor to it. The back bumper has the look of a C3. True to the era, the rear axle has height adjustment, so this thing can jack waaaay up in back. Good times!

Since there's been no update here since January, thought I'd share my car carriers that were recently returned to me. The 'rents got them for me in the late 70s.
