My only suggestion is http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?dept=68

I'm sure there are more options and different opinions, but I'm a Flyin' Miata fan.

It's possible, but if we do the exchange here versus privately, you will get more data to work from, no trolls or bashing, and a record of replies that may help others in the future! :). I can assure you we frown at members being belittled or insulted. There are no bad questions here, just good helpful people.

I moved this thread to get more visibility.

Because you have a Mazdaspeed (MSM), you can't add "headers" per se. The turbo bolts to the one already on the car. I am sure there are other ones available, but if it moves the turbo's location, it starts to affect the downpipe location and other things.

May I ask what the goals are for your modifications? Do you have a certain power number you want to reach? Do you have a budget? Is there a specific purpose for the mods, or is this your daily driver?

Martin's link to Flyin' Miata is a great place to start. They can be pricey, but they make very good components and they really do take great pride in their customer service and tech help.

daily driver for right now well in the good seasons, just looking to get get rid of turbo lag which I think may be casued by downpipe restrictions im not sure, no intended number on power. budget is non really restricted. just looking to have a little fun with her and make her a snotty girl haha

I think a more free flowing exhaust system would help with this turbo lag you have.

Exhaust will help. The MSM has a fairly small turbo, so eliminating restriction in the downpipe and exhaust will help it build up or spool a little faster.

When I had my 2005 MSM I resolved some basic performance problems by installing a few add on's, they are listed in my 2005 build thread, its in my signature below.

I've heard (I do not own an msm) that many of the factory parts in the turbo system can be replaced for a big change. The elbow that connects to the throttle body expands under pressure, the bov likely "seeps" even when shut, the wastegate may be the same. The intake is somewhat restrictive also. I absolutely agree with the above in regards to the exhaust.

A larger diameter downpipe and exhaust will get you the most bang for your buck on a turbo car. Check out www.flyinmiata.com

Not that you want crazy horsepower right now, but FWIW there is a guy in my local club that has an MSM running 598hp at the rear wheels.

Does he have a v8 swap? ^ If still using a bp4w how does he not eat through transmissions?

Quick, fun, reliable.*

Quick
Bpu: intake, dp, full exhaust, tbi, up the boost a psi or 2 or 3

Intake go with joe, dp go fm, exhaust I favor enthuza, quicker spool with just xr.

Fun
suspension: coilovers, sticky tires (rs3), front sway bar (1.125 rb) light rims ( 949racing 15"), roll bar (blackbird fabworx) fender braces, motor mounts, poly diff bushings (949racing), a splitter and a wing, some weight reduction if that is an option,* new sound system or something along the grom unit. Frame rails (fm or static nine garage).

Reliable
Upgrade: bov, pulleys, injectors, gauges for boost wtr oil afr, ecu (flash, hydra,* MS, aem or adaptronic), clutch and fly wheel,* diff fluid, tranny fluid, headlights,* radiator flush, tune up,* - depending on miles on car,*mr SSK short shifter, new radiator and hoses, new fans, bigger FMIC, seats, harnesses, think 3.63 gears can go in here,* cool breeze scoop, rotors, pads, ss brake lines, ss clutch line, fuel pump, fab9tuning.com COP.
All I can think of right now.

had typed a response but didn't hit submit

First, welcome to the site. You'll really like it here. Activity had slowed down recently. But this had become one of my favorites :)

Second, congratulations on the car!

Third, www.mazda-speed.com is a site dedicated to the msm.

So cut and paste doesn't work that great on my phone.

Watch "BLACKOUTS BLAST OFF! MSM DYNO RUN" on YouTube

Not sure if ut will work. Also that's the fm dp, enthuza mid pipe and enthuza xr exhaust.

Yes, the links works :)

Well, that is one of his daily drivers, but if you like those numbers, he also has a 800hp Drag Miata that uses the Miata engine. :teehee:

I seem to remember seeing that miata at the all florida meet. It was a white nb right?

I would be more impressed with the Miata engine making those numbers. Of course, it's all custom, huge turbo, and lag at that point.

That white nb is the world's fastest drag Miata. Sadly i didn't get thete to hear him start it. And he used the Miata engine.

Both of his NB Miatas use the Mazda Miata engine. And I don't know how you missed hearing the White NB, it was ridiculously loud ..

My best bang for buck mod was getting rid on the catalytic converter on my MSM. I'm guessing around 190 at the wheels just by knocking the cat out.

no way 190 broski. from the factory its 178 at the crank... you might have felt quicker response due to less restriction though :)

I would say the biggest bang for the buck would be a AEM short ram intake with boost controller or a Flyin Miata High Performance intake with manual boost controller for $290. Then turn the boost up to 10 or 10.5psi. Your will feel like it lifts up & goes. It will feel like a totally different car. My firs mod was a FM intake they were $230 when I bought mine new. nothing like turning up the boost.

My next mod was the Flyin Miata downpipe. It was worth the money. It add a significant increase in performance to the intake.

A quick thing you can do is disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor. It will cause the ECU to add more fuel & get rid of the hesitation caused by the ECU. The Check Engine Light will come on when it disconnected but will eventually turn off if you reconnect it again. Its a good way to test if you feel the ECU hesitation or boost lag.

Another mod is to get a MS2 Enhanced ECU for the Mazdaspeed. You can turn up the rpm & get rid of the hesitation caused by the stock ECU.

I've drag raced another MSM (ozbrock) and he did a MAF relocation kit and did a dyno run (170ish HP). We where basically the same during the run and I've still running the stock intake minus the snorkel. He never gain on me nor did a loose him, just treed his ass on the light.

Here is the link to his dyno numbers. I am thinking I'm about 190 hp at the crank or about 175 hp at the rear wheels compared to 150ish hp stock at the wheels. Besides, I see full boost at about 3800 RPM and pulls hard up top once the fuel finally is added (damn ECU). I've can't complain on a 30 dollar job and his was $350.
