Interesting. Dollar amounts?

As NC's get older this might turn into one of the cheapest good-HP mods (like NB->NA swaps became)

That firewall though...I wouldn't call it "here" since it's not even running, we can't buy it right now and this seems like a race only thing.

Can you still access all the valve cover bolts? Exhaust manifold?

I think this is the test mule but either way it's going to be a great option if it comes to life.

This seems very interesting. I assume it would need an nc transmission.

I like this idea, all Mazda under the hood!!!!!!!!

yes and 2.0L or 2.3L is a big motor for that chassis with some serious potential

My 1st questions as well! And is the firewall getting rewelded so there is still going to be an actual firewall I would hope. I can't imagine that big hole and passing tech to get a logbook like that!

Also how would the exhaust manifold work? The chassis is made to accommodate an exhaust manifold on the driver side, and the nc has it on the passenger side.

That's really cool! Love to see what becomes of it.. I agree.. As the NC gets older, more n more get wrecked or come down in price this becomes very doable.

We are just getting started here, no plans for production. We had a handful of drive lines from other conversions and a roller SM. The goal is to use as much of the NC items(rad, trans, drive shaft etc) and achieve a true 50/50 balance.

No plans ever?

Production kits would be street orientated. We may look into this later down the road.

Our goals for this build and the mounting systems would differ from a production street kit. We have recessed the engine back to achieve better balance and will be using a semi sold mount.

I would love a street kit.

This has always been what I thought a proper engine swap for a Miata. Shandelle, I would like to have a look see of this project.

There is a member on miataturbo that has done a swap using an MZR motor. Turns101 I believe is his username.

I wanted to see it too, but Bryan told me its up at the Tennessee location. :fp:

This car is housed in TN. Steve and I have discussed the street version and will most likely look into it after we've put some time on track with this car.

Im sure this would be a great upgrade as this engine has more hp potential than the NA, NB motors, heck maybe even a swap it into the ND if they are going to still use that 1.5L, I know the ND engine bay is much longer too!

Hmmmm, mid-front engine NC powered ND

NA weight + NC power = WIN !! :slayer:

I will reserve judgement on the ND motor until I see it, but 1.5L does not sound very promising for power gains

Any updates on this...I've got an 06 Motor and 5-Speed trans just sitting in the shed waiting on something to do...

We moved focus to finish the LFX for MRLS. The car just rolled of the lift today, but hasn't had running time yet.

Shandelle, you said that the NC Engine has to be pushed back 3 inches behind the firewall to use the stock NA Shifter hole?

Is there not a way to make a custom engine plate extender for the transmission to extend the engine forward 3 inches?

maybe something like what is being used on the K-Series motor swap? http://www.shop.kmiata.com/Engine-Adapter-Plate-KM-ADP-ST.htm

Lots of other variables to take into account:

Adapter
Input shaft to work with adapter
New drive shaft
Oil pan to rack clearance
and on and on and on.... cost goes up with each.
