Everyone says they are sooooo different that they won't ever work. blah blah blah hahhaha

So I have some JDM floor mats.
R-Limited, V-Special, M2-1028

And a set of old USDM mats
1993 Limited Edition

Here is both sets next to each other. The is a small difference in the drivers side mats. And looks like the passenger mats have a bigger difference. (Not that I care about the passenger)

Here is USDM on top of JDM.

However everyone seems to think they won't fit. But they do, and once installed you can't tell the difference.

I even bought some aftermarket JDM floor mats for for my miata

I also have a set of JDM RHD floor mats and a set of USDM LHD floor mats. There is a slight difference in fitment but the RHD fit just fine in my LHD car.

I can get some photos if need be to specifically outline the difference with LHD floor mats in a RHD car.

Sorry, had trouble updating the pics.

If anyone else is currently running JDM mats, im pretty sure you feel the difference is quite minimal as well. So why JDM mats? Well here in the USA we only have Black or Tan, but in the homeland of Japan where the cars are made there are a lot of different colors and styles to help personalize your Miata. Yes I was bored when I typed this but I hope it will help some folks out there, this should clear up all the prior arguments made by the naysayers from the pointy board. :teehee:

They are all so nice, especially those chocolate ones.

I have some JDM ones too, the black and yellow checkered but my buddy in Japan has them in his closet.

Great post Randy, thanks! I knew they were similarly shaped, but I'd never seen a pic of the mats on top of each other. Very cool.

Once you put them in the car you'll have a hard time noticing any difference in the very slight shape that everyone that doesn't own them rambles on about.

Really wish they had made some NA tan mats in the R-Limited or V-Special style.

The V-Special was the Japanese version of our 1991 British Racing Green. Same color exterior, same tan interior.

I hate rambling people.

Yeah? Have a pic of them? I've just never seen JDM OEM tan mats so I figured they must not exist.

The USDM tan mats are the last thing that say Miata in Betty and I'm not too keen on black mats in a tan interior.

Must be my camera but the V-Special mats are a dark brown, not black and they look great in a tan interior.

I'll have to look through some HyperRev books for some photos.

Phat what does that little tag that is sticking out on the checkerboard mats say? Mine was ripped off by the previous owner.

I am contemplating sending my mats to a professional restorer to get them back to 100% factory condition.

Wait, did checker floor mats really come standard in the 1028? If so, badass!

Also, here's a picture of the metal plate things, Andy:

Edit: whoops, the tag, not the plates. My bad. I'll just leave the image there anyways...

Sealed for JDM freshness.

Odd enough my mats don't have a metal plate. They have embroidered in gold threads the word roadster. I'll get a better photo soon.

The early Na's had the metal nameplate on the mats. Later model NA's had the embroidered nameplate that was then carried over to the NB's.

Fitment is fine with the RHD mats in a LHD NA. The dead pedal helps with fitment on drivers side.
I have some pics of the drive side fitment I will post later.

Well I am not complaining with what I have, but I would prefer the metal name plate.

Just informing, not passing judgement. It was one of Mazda's ways to keep costs in check. Also why they went from the nicer loop pile to cut pile carpet in '95 or '96.

Pedro your checkerboard floor mats look exactly the same as mine. The roadster logo looks embroidered as opposed to a metal plate.

I sold those and picked up a set of the metal plate version, as I liked the look of them better. I do have several sets with the embroidered logo though.

Some RHD mats that I have. I really like the Roadster Plate on the set in the upper right. I have to touch up the paint on the pair when I have the time.

If that top right set is ever for sale, please let me know. Have been looking for one for ages, but all of them out there seem to be the more "regular" checkerboard.

P.S. Apologies for the necro-thread ressurection! :P

Maybe slightly off-topic, but since we're talking about mats: I'm not really happy with the cut carpet OE mats currently available, and they're typically $120(ish).

For my recently acquired 1994, I ordered swatches from LLoyds. Their more expensive Berber option is $87 for a set of fronts, and $70 if you want a matching trunk liner. I should have samples soon, and I can at least let you guys know which black loop matches the original carpet best.
