Hey guys. I finally had gotten around to writing up my DIY Hardtop Hoist.

Materials Needed:

-Deer Hoist and Gambrel (Actually, all you need is the actual hoist. I threw away the gambrel.)
11744

-Eye Bolt
11745

-Rope Cleat
11746

-Screw Pin Shackle
11747

-Ratcheting Straps x 2

1. First, find the stud in the roof of your garage that you will be attaching the eye bolt to.

2. Next, attach the rope cleat to a wall where you would like the rope to tie to.

3. Next, attach the hook from Deer Hoist according to the instructions that come with the hoist.

4. Next, route the rope as shown in the instructions.

5. Attach the pin side of the Shackle to the hook of the hoist. (I bent the hook a little with vice grips to hold the shackle in place.)

6. Attach one end of the straps to the shackle and run the other end of the strap under the hardtop and attach it to the shackle. (Be sure to go over the roll bar if you have one or else you will not be able to lift the hardtop.)

7. Repeat Step 5 with the other strap on the other side of the hardtop. Make sure that you have them evenly spaced to prevent it from tilting.

8. Slowly raise the hardtop and run rope around rope cleat.

TADA! There you have it. Nice storage for the hardtop and it makes it a little easier to lift it off by yourself. Granted, it takes a bit longer to do this but the ease of storage and use makes it a no-brainer for me. I didn't have many pictures but I figured that the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. If you have any questions, let me know and I can try to answer them as best as I can.

I do not take any responsibility for any damages to any hardtops or miatae while attempting to do this. Please attempt at your own risk.

Thanks, AO. I figured this would be a cheaper alternative to the $80 dollar option out there. The prices are going to vary. I was able to get the straps, cleat, shackle and straps for roughly around $20 total. The deer hoist I got from Walmart I thought was supposed to be $20 but when the cashier rang it up, it showed $13. Turned out great for me!
