Balancing stock Flywheel after resurface?

I've heard of number of differing opinions on the topic, so I figured I'd throw it to the forum and see the response.

I'm having my stock flywheel (207k) resurfaced and it's going to mated to an oem spec exedy kit with a brand new pressure plate.

Do I need to worry about balancing either just the flywheel or the entire flywheel/pressure plate/clutch assembly?

The guy at the clutch shop said "It shouldn't be a problem with an engine THAT size.", but my internet searches have turned up horror stories about imbalanced assemblies after kit installs (not specific to this car with this kit). Internet sampling can be very biased toward sensationalism, though.

Should I forget my worries or find a place to do the balancing?

It shouldnt have any issue.

Had no issues at 150k. You shouldn't either. It isn't necessarily a wear item.

There's no need to balance unless you plan to remove alot of weight. Mine was resurface when I put an ATC clutch.
Prior to removing the flywheel mark its orientation so that when you put it back on, its in the same position as when you removed it.

a little off topic, but does lightening a stock flywheel seem like a bad idea?
and if not, does anyone have a clue as to any reputable machine shops they can recommend for this?

No its ok.
i had a 1.8 oem flywheel go from . i believe 19 to 14 lbs. it cost $100.
i think you can buy an f1 for close to that now

f1 got expensive as they went to a lighter disign which is a knock off of the act prolight

i too had a factory flywheel lightened. no need to rebalance.. mine is just fine.

No need to re-balance the factory wheel just because it was re-surfaced.
