I have been searching for a OBD2 Scanner Car Code Reader and I am getting a bit confused with all of the different types out there.
Can anyone recommend a good overall code reader?

I use the OBD-MX+ but mostly because it supports GM's CANbus but of course it's compatible with all earlier OBD protocols like Miatas use. https://www.obdlink.com/products/obdlink-mxp
I did acquire a ThinkDriver OBD scanner when it was being offered up on Kickstarter but I haven't opened it up yet. I liked that this one supports ABS brake bleeding without me needing to buy a dedicated GM tech tool.

Shows live data, you can delete codes, and connects via blue tooth so if youre doing some track driving and have a tablet setup you can see your live vitals and it shows alot of info that you can pick and choose to see.
I've been using the Torque app(upgraded version for last 3-4yrs) with a cheap eBay obdII dongle since I've had a Miata so about 7.5 yrs or so and really like it. The upgraded version is worth it($5 or so) for the data logging, imo, but sadly I've never used that feature. Seems many other Miata enthusiast use it as well.
I think I'm going to finally pick up a Ultragauge in the next month or two so I don’t have to use my phone for a display. From the reviews I found it seems to be a good value with no issues that I've seen. My main reason for it will be to monitor boost/vacuum and coolant temperature till I get aftermarket gauges.
