My wife would be reminding me of the time when I moved out of my last bachelor apartment to the apartment we'd share when we got married. I tossed out a ton of used parts (for the 97M I had at the time) and regretted it later on several occasions.
How hard of a job is it to get the mounts completely off the engine block and replaced?
Get some help from someone local if you can. 2 people are better than one for this job, but not impossible. Need a floor jack, wood block, a pry/crowbar can be handy, a bunch of socket extensions. If you know someone with an engine crane/cherry picker, it make the job easier.
I should just stop working on this thing.
Took off the undertray again and started. Got as far as the shock tower nuts and the steering rack bracket, then went to tighten what I thought might be the culprit--the driver's side engine mount. The stud had sheered from the mount when we put it in and we'd welded it back in place. I was worried that weld had come undone.
Apparently, I suck at working on cars, because...

Yep...the weld held just fine, but the torque I put on the stud was too great and I sheered the stupid thing.
Welp, that's it for today. Not exactly the way I wanted to end, but at this rate, I'm certain to break something else if I keep going.

Doubt it'd have helped. I was trying to torque it to 40ft-lbs and it just kept turning...until it snapped.
" The stud had sheered from the mount when we put it in and we'd welded it back in place."
I'm so confused.
The stud is welded into the bottom mount. It must not have been welded very strongly originally, because when we put it in, it broke the weld. It was welded in MUCH more strongly before we put it back in.
My picture is where the stud itself sheered instead of breaking the weld again.
Rewelding the stud made it harder, but also more brittle.
Called Shandelle @V8R...he sold me a pair of the new updated lower mounts (clevis) for $20 each plus about $10 shipping. The stud is shouldered so even if the weld were to pop, the nut on the other end will help keep it in place. I probably won't replace the passenger's side for now since nothing was done to it and I barely trust myself to replace the broken driver's side .
Pretty happy with that. I'll give the revised setup a shot and sell them if it doesn't work. At least I won't feel like I'm selling damaged goods!
Is that customer service or what? :slayer: V8R
Sadly the mounts didn't make it today, so the employee car show is out for tomorrow :(
I could bring mine in your stead.
