Love the rollbar color
Rev that is a gorgeous interior the only thing that would make it better would be a polished or chrome fire extinguisher instead of the red.
Im jealous of all of you..
I had this, which I customized from stock:

Basically, customized and reupholstered '95 M seats redone in black leather/perforated leather with modified foam and layered densities added.
The sterring wheel is a Sparco Strada.
This is what I have now:

Customized Lotus Elise seats on Flipside Customs brackets, Nakamae center console, custom window switches.
I plan to change the steering wheel, do custom door cards, re upholster the seats and maybe do a custom carpet/rear parcel. I may change out the gauge cluster, too.
In the meantime, this is my ultimate, all-time favorite interior mod; I am most proud of this:

when i get my car back
i want to start working on some custom quilted leather/vinyl door cards and center counsel similar to the nakamae products.
any advise as to where to find that type of quilted material?
butterfly in the sky. i can fly twice as high
Didn't you have a write-up on how to install that head unit somewhere? That's a subie McIntosh unit, right? Is there a way to use that one with an external amp? I've been wanting a McIntosh so bad for my MX6, and the Subie unit seems to be the only one i'm willing to pay for. :D
Just made the door cards..
Added steering wheel today..
I've got a Nardi 340mm Classic and some buckets waiting to go in.

the McIntosh come from an american version of Subaru, and you need an external amp, i hava also a Mc amp, I preferred to do so by an electrician install

I would love a nakamae tan console but I can't justify the cost of it. lol

A couple of additions... Some unknown origin aluminum vent trim rings and aluminum painted door handle cups. I think the next angle of attack is going to be new DIY door cards.

Its just one of those cheap motorcycle amps from ebay, I removed the original knobs and replaced with guitar knobs.
The clock is from MX5Parts/ I.L. Motorsport
No pics of the back im afraid, I had to attach two brackets to the radio console to bolt the panel onto, and some brackets onto the back of the panel to hold the amp in place aswell.
Its pretty ghetto but does the job and its all hidden anyway.

Great idea!... Sheez, think of all the cool old stereos out there at yard sales, and junk yards.
I know right? Japanese stereo equipment from the 70's and 80's can net some really nicely produced equipment.
I wouldn't be surprised if the people who designed all of those nice retro interior bits for our cars drew inspiration from old hi-fi catalogs.
These things, especially the heater control knobs have all the fit and finish of Zeromotive or RS Products parts.
They've got the same turned grain on them as my Aerodramatic gauge needle caps and the volume control on my Alpine deck.
And the bit I used for the AC button (I think I'm going to cut it down a bit, it does stick out) has basically the same ridging as the heater knob.
I was a bit chuffed as to how easily and nicely this came together. Why can't it all be this easy!
I've still got a few left. I might try to use them for the hazard/barndoor buttons, and there's a couple switches that I might use for window toggles.
Awesome idea!
Went through this entire thread, so jealous.
Old stereo knobs...that's brilliant!
Thanks all.
Basically just drilled the plastic out of the inside of the knobs (see below), filed down the ends heater knob arms to make them just a bit narrower, (they were the same diameter of the knob holes:teehee:) and they went right on.
Dumb easy, if you ask me. I'm going to change the AC part though, I don't quite like it yet and it could fit better.
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...s/P1070686.jpg
The metals really soft and I shitted up two of them. Good thing there were extras.
I feel kinda bad pilfering parts off of a nice vintage receiver since these (Pioneer SX-1010) still hold a pretty decent value, but it's been sitting in the garage for years. I'm not even sure if it still works.

TOO awesome. When you get the armrest done, it's gonna be insane.
I'd leave the steering wheel spokes matte, it matches the inset panel on the crash pad.
er. . . too late! lol
The insert is actually shinier than it comes out in photos and I just wasn't feeling the matt spokes on my wheel (Didn't feel vintage enough and clashed with the other chrome highlights). Out came the dremel this afternoon, an electric palm sander and the polishing gear! Man, its a TOUGH job! Whatever MOMO coated the spokes with is like krytonite! Chemical paint stripper doesn't budge it in the slightest and I tried the electric sander but it only takes off patches of it.
As revlimiter discovered when he did his, the only thing that shifts it is patience and a dremel with a wire brush attachment - I've worn out three so far! Its a long, dusty job and I've got another few hours work to get it anywhere near shiny!
That interior looks sweet.
Great job you did there.
What are those 3 switches for? Headlights up/down, on/off?
Wow, Uber cool mate
OnePaintedMan - I'm totally blown away by that!
My custom interior :) Shaved all the air con vents, custom simplified switch panel housing windows, high/low boost, fans, hazards, battery cut off switch and demister. Top part of the dash, crash pad and cluster cover covered in suede. Custom Stack dash setup, Carpet centre console. A lot of work went into this interior and it one of my favorite things about the car :) Especially the stack dash :P

I wrapped the whole dash, glovebox and panel under the steering column in soft leather hide. I'm afraid I don't have any photos of how I created the crash pad and switch bank. . . I was too busy swearing and regretting I ever started the project at that point! lol It cost me over £350 to create this look and took me around 60 man hours (including all the trial and error).
Oh and the heater controls are in the glovebox (before anyone asks)
Well done, this is the kind of DIY I like seeing.
That is some dedication. It looks really good!
Most original dash I've seen.
This is by far the most creative dash I have seen yet. Awesome job!
I'm with Grip Driver. That is the most creative custom dash I've seen on a miata. Super clean. Very nicely done!
Wow this whole thread is Full of win:slayer:
Thanks guys. . . I have to admit though, I was standing on the shoulders of giants. This japanese interior was my inspiration. Credit where credit is due.
I just adapted the overall look with a few tailored modifications of my own (crashpad/switchpanel and carpeted tunnel).

^It doesn't look bad per say, just looks dated. Plus I'd imagine it'll be annoying to keep clean
It started with the white gauges in an all black car and I went from there. If I continue the black/white theme throughout I think I can tie it together. It's the radio surround that bugs me. I can't decide if I should do the vent rings or not.
Fitted a harness bar today. Good excuse to show a rare shot of my car with the roof off!

Have you thought about using a shift knob shaped like this? I think it would look better than that one with the "collar" on the bottom of it:
http://garagestar.com/media/products...ainless_01.jpg
Yup, when I ordered the handbrake sleeve they accidentially sent me out a shift knob too, so I just stuck it on as it was better than what was on there before. I just haven't gotten around to fitting one like you posted yet, its on the (ever expanding) list though :)
man im in love with the lotus seats.. but finding them is a bitch.. I want to get the lowest seat I can and so far they look to be the way to go.. I did a little looking around and I did stumble on this http://www.eliseparts.com/products/s...u-le-standard/ not sure if its any help to anyone but they look just like the lotus seats!
thanks. I switched it from euros to us dollars and its just over 500 a seat.. but I also took the time to check corbeau official site and couldn't find them so I emailed them about the seats to get more details and im currently waiting for a reply. but I will keep you guys posted :D
ok I got a reply and for the us division to get two le standard seats in the us it will be a total of 1600 us dollars! not cheap but they do have to import them from the uk! lol any way if you guys want the seats bad enough you can get in touch with corbeau us and send them a message they will get back to you with in a week haha

Door card cover made from a beach towel from Kohl's.
So many gorgeous interiors in this thread! Here's my work in progress.
It is coming along, slowly but surely. Recently recovered my door cards, and installed Revlimiter's Barcode gauges and HVAC panel along with Retro Modern's HVAC knobs. Also running a vintage style rear view mirror, and some polished aluminum defroster trim. Once my hub adapter finally arrives I can install my deep dish suede NRG. (I know, it isn't Momo or Nardi! lol)
Next on the list is to find a more fitting radio, and install new floor mats. Plus it desperately needs a thorough detailing!

I got it from Yahoo auctions, $100. Who ever had it before me removed the original leather in an attempt to get rid of a nasty smell, probably a cat sprayed it.
I was able to get rid of the smell with vinegar. I have a cheep ebay cover on it for now.

But I also need a D shape wheel along with...it never ends.:fp:

Those recovered 95 seats are mmmm-mmmm-good!
Daaamn, Mike, very cool.
What is the rear part of the console from? Looks handy, but I must say not as sleek as the rest.
It's just a generic auto parts store console which is genius
Some of you may know about the custom dash I built for my car Ronin (Think it's somewhere earlier in this thread).

Well, over the last few years the crash pad had started to deteriorate due to the expanding foam I used originally to extend it. I decided to strip and refurb it by fibreglassing two crashpad together. The strip down also gave me the opportunity to incorporate a new mod into the switch panel.

It's too bright at the moment because I used LEDs. I plan to change them for conventional bulbs to match my dash gauges.
Sorted the lighting out by switching out the LEDs for some modded interior dash lights with festoon bulbs. It's so much better now.

LOVE IT!!!
Holy feck that looks even MORE amazing!! Very nice work!
Thanks guys! I've actually stayed late a work today so I can drive it home in the dusk light with the lights on. How sad is that! Lol
So envious of those seats.
Ugh, you have no idea how much I anguished over things not working out for me to be able to buy them. At this point I'm down to seats, 1.6 dash, loop carpet, door panels, and some quilted Nakamae pieces that I have to do/want for Betty's interior. Sooo... basically the bigger items. And I really need to find a minty 1.6 tan dash and black crash pad. Betty's stock dash looks fine on the outside, but she's a mess behind the curtains (cracks/breaks).
I wish I could fit in those seats. Unfortunately I have more of a loggers build than a gymnasts, so I'm on the hunt for something else. I've got a pair of 914 seats in the garage but part of me thinks that the squared top of the headrests will look out of place in such a round car.
